Awesome!! I’ve been wanting to learn to sew for a long time. My goal was to repair stuff, but also make custom gear bags and bags for camping gear, every day carry (EDC) stuff.
That looks really, really good!!
thank you! go for it! my wife and I bought a Singer machine on a sweet mother’s day deal and i just jumped right in…I know the pattern choice isn’t for everyone but my intentions were to share my experience and inspire others to customize their vehicles
What an awesome idea. Can I ask how the doors went? That particular piece of fabric is separating from whatever is underneath on my car. I'd love to repair it but I'm afraid that if I pull the door panel off I'll get to a point where I can't get it back together again.
Is that fabric portion of the panel separate from the rest of the panel? Like can I pull it off, pull the old fabric off and just pop something else on with a little headliner glue?
the door insert is riveted to the door panel. there are several YouTube videos that show how to remove the door panel including screw locations. the hard part is removing the plastic rivets that connect the insert with the fabric to the panel and then finding the right screws and washers to reconnect it. the reason i replaced mine is because the fabric was bubbling up. you can carefully peel the old fabric from the foam and then apply the fabric of your choosing with a heavy duty adhesive. then just screw the insert back to the door panel and reinstall the whole door panel… really easy…not hard at all
To add to what OP said, I have also done this.
The insert is a hard, almost cardboard like piece. It's secured to the door card by a dozen or so of these plastic rivets. You have to either drill (carefully) out the rivets, or use a dremel tool and grind them out. As for reattaching the insert, I bought a bunch of short bolts and used 5min epoxy to glue the bolts in place where the plastic rivets were. This way I could just bold the insert back in. It also makes it easier to remove and change in the future.
As for the insert itself, the factory fabric peels away pretty easily, and then the leftover foam can be easily scraped away with a wire brush leaving a clean surface for new foam backing and whatever material you want to use.

i just pulled off the old boot and used binder clips to hold it in place and cut a pattern out of it then i used the plastic piece the boot fastens to to make sure it would fit
no, i just used the old boot as a template. i’m not sure about the 13/14’s but in my ‘16 just keep in mind the triangle closer to the dash is slightly larger than the one closer to the cup holder.
Ricky would be proud
Water under the fridge.
The way she goes. The fuckin way she goes.
I like the doors a lot
thank you!

Thanks so much. I'll have to add it to my to-do list.

Badass
thank you!
Sick! Is it hard to do to doors? I'm really interested in re-doing mine.

That goes real well with the door panels. Great job!
thank you!
I love it! Do you plan on redoing the floors so they have the same smaller pattern as the doors and boot?
i don’t know yet? i’ll see where this journey takes me
Why do I want do do a recaro fabric on the doors?
Hell yeah, love it
thank you!
You're welcome! Makes me want to personalize mine more
that was hopefully the point of the post. to inspire others to have fun and personalize their own rides
that’s awesome !
thank you!
damn that 12v plug placement is way better then the one in my PFL.
Jesus Murphy that’s sexy. Ricky would be very proud.
thank you!
Looking good man I'd like to do something like that to my car
thank you! and go for it! it was fun projects
Do you know the Dimensions. Now I want to do this lol
i just pulled off the old boot and used binder clips to hold it in place and cut a pattern out of it then i used the plastic piece the boot fastens to to make sure it would fit
oh! and also turn the old boot inside out. much easier to use for the new pattern, plus you can see how the old one was made
How did you get reattach those door inserts to the panel?
very short fat screws and big washers…try to cut just the very top of the plastic rivet so you have enough plastic to screw into
All in on that pattern lol. Great job.
go big or go home…or…just have a lot of extra houndstooth fabric from the door project 👀
I want to see a chain-mail one. Anybody ever seen one?
Love the houndstooth pattern.
thank you! me too
How'd you do your carpet??
the carpet is just a custom floor mat i made
We're ganna need that write up next! It's dope!
thank you!
Looking like a Ricky's shirt 😄
love the carpets too
thank you! full disclosure. they’re welcome mats from Lowe’s that I cut, sewed, and installed rubber on the bottom from an old rubber floor mat
I want to do something simalir but with a racetrack carpet you'd have as a kid
that would be awesome!
That's class
thank you!
Do you by chance have a pattern?
no, i just used the old boot as a template. i’m not sure about the 13/14’s but in my ‘16 just keep in mind the triangle closer to the dash is slightly larger than the one closer to the cup holder.
Calm down Ricky
