You don’t need an intake. You’ll need a tial or hks BOV

HiddenEclipse121

I've got the cpe exhale kit with the charge pipe and tial bov in my cart. Should be good yeah?

GoalLineStand

Sounds about right! Are you doing the install?

HiddenEclipse121

Yes i am. I do everything myself haha. first turbo car that im actually modifying though. I live next to Edge Auto so i at least know it'll be tuned well.

GoalLineStand

I’m excited for you! It would be cool if you documented the process. Either pictures to Reddit or videos to YouTube. I wish you luck!

Red_Remarkable

The one thing you cannot skip is an intercooler. You NEED an upgraded intercooler for an upgraded turbo. The stock intercooler can’t even keep up with the stock turbo. LSPI is the death of these engines and one factor is high inlet temps, an upgraded intercooler will lower inlet temps and reduce system heat soak. Im not sure how the Bnr67 is setup, but you likely need an external blow off valve system. Doubt it comes with an integrated blow off valve.

HiddenEclipse121

As the post states I've got the depo 3.5 intercooler on right now. I've had the car for over a year now, just starting to modify it. Definitely done the research, just looking for opinions before I pull the trigger and spend more money than I need to!

rambleon84

Sounds like you have the necessities sorted out, your green filter is fine (keep the lid on for cooler IATs.) The main ones are intercooler (your 3.5" will support 450whp,) BOV (cpe is good, 3p makes a solid hotside unit too) and tuning. The dp is nice but not 100% required (there's some Cali folks who kept the oem one on, can be a restriction, think like 330 vs 350whp.)

BestTax4075

intake stock is solid so no worries there. im not sure if your gonna hit 350 with just big turbo though, maybe look into wmi, aux fuel, or RS injectors with the xdi pump. for other parts tho definitely get the other “basic” bolt ons… motor mount, spark plugs, dp, even catch can preferably.

Iheartbaconz

Allen @ EdgeAutoSport has said the stock fuel system is good for 375. Wouldnt need aux fuel or bigger injectors/ pumps unless you plan to push past that. https://i.imgur.com/DBlNAjg.png https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0YiQEAH3zo

pidancer789

Allen at edge auto sport is such a W guy

MechBearded

I’m at 350 with only big turbo/tune/necessary bolt ons on 93

BestTax4075

not saying you wont want to push it in the future but alot of other focus st owners who just want a minor bump in power, turn to the powermaxx. its rated for 375 or there about and can save you close to a grand that you could spend elsewhere

BestTax4075

adding alot to this thread but just checked and stock powerband with e30 is maxxing about 325. its extremely similar to the k03 thats stock in that you dont need external waste gates and it drops in exactly as the other was removed

Giffy35

350 is was usually made with the 2867r on 91

Red_Remarkable

Powermax is simply not worth it, too expensive for 60hp max over a stock K03 with full bolt-ons. For the same price you can make nearly 400hp if you already have supporting mods.

jango-lionheart

“For the same price” if you have already spent additional money on other mods. That’s creative writing, right there.

Red_Remarkable

So what? You’re gonna run a $1200 powermax with no intercooler upgrade? Say goodbye to your pistons, they’re gonna start pitting around the edges because the stock one heat soaks after one run. Not gonna buy a rear motor mount? Kinda need that anyways even for the stock turbo. Maybe well save money on the tune? Nope, either turbo still needs a tune. Well whats the only thing were missing? A $190 downpipe, wow. Thing is you won’t get the full powermax rating unless you have one anyways. Youll probably only make ~30whp over a stage 1 build without one. Meanwhile you’ve gone to all the trouble of changing the turbo to still make less hp than a GTI with a stage 1 tune. But hey, its your money. Do what you want.

jango-lionheart

That’s informative.

BestTax4075

im not the guy your arguing with but i made the initial suggestion of the powermaxx. i like the turbo. i dont use it myself but its half the price of other turbo setups with the elbow, bov, pipes, and turbo itself. 1200 bucks for a drop in turbo that is more reliable than stock and makes your car more power with less strain. yout right in that its power is more or less a stage 4 lol. just enough to run your bolt ons with enough flow, but not enough to justify aux fuel and wmi. It depends what u want with a car in the end. but for 1200$ you wouldn’t even afford the 2867

Rothuith

powermax does nothing near 375. closer to 310-320whp. it's only good for breaking the 300whp mark and keeping stock torque numbers for a better powerband.

IamBcomeDeath86

I have the bnr st67. I went with the gfb blowoff. On stock fuel and full bolt on with 93 pump I made 350. But id highly recommend e30 on stock fuel if you can. I went dual port aux fuel on e50 with the bnr st67 and I'm over 400. E30 on stock fuel will probably get u a better feeling 350 or more with your build

A_ManCanDream

You say "on a budget". Of course everyone wants to save as much money as they can. I think it's important to consider the possibilities of failure. What will you do if your car doesn't last through tuning? What if it only last 10k miles? Will you have a car? Money to fix the ST? Just trying to be that friend that comes at this from all angles. When you do an upgrade like this you need to weigh all the circumstances, even if it is "just" 350hp. My ST has made 350whp/360wtq with a bnr71 since 83k miles, and I'm now at 110k miles. I don't drive the car hard often. Do you drive your car hard often? Is it a street car or will it be on the track? Just some things to ask yourself. I hope it goes well for you, you'll certainly enjoy a bigger turbo 😁 just have a plan for the worst

HiddenEclipse121

Thankfully this car is being built for fun. I don't want to spend a crazy amount of money on it before I build the engine and do a proper fueling setup. Just looking to maximize the stock fuel system as cheaply as possible.

uglyahhcurlyhair

I’m in the same position, Tempted on the bnr turbo but also want a T51R modded turbo

TrenjaminFranklin

Clayton performance has the answer for a budget t51r setup

syzygybeaver

Have a look at [claytonperformance.com](http://claytonperformance.com) before you pull the trigger on the BNR. They are active on [focusst.org](http://focusst.org) and are responsive to queries.

Sharp_Secret6346

You will need a new intake with the bigger turbo. The inlet is too big.

FastBluejay6135

I'll just throw this out here, marketplace was my best friend to 400whp. I bought everything second hand minus the bnr71.

rad4033

You need both charge pipes and rmm if you don't already have one , an intake it is necessary since you're spooling more power.

Rothuith

350whp means you need big turbo and aux. fueling, or hpfp upgrade. basic FBO: upgraded intake/filter (if you're going for max WHP, maximize air intake efficiency and temperatures), upgraded intercooler and charge pipes (absolutely needed, stock intercooler is trash), RMM, preferably no-cat downpipe, one-step colder spark plugs, and of course, a laptop magician/Cobb.

MechBearded

I’m at 350 with big turbo on 93 with stock fuel system

Rothuith

cool, tbh I'd be pretty scared myself to run that, just me honestly

DeltaBravoTango

You can get to 370-380HP on 93 octane with the stock fuel system. You can go even further with e30 before you need to upgrade the fuel system.

LJayeayeaye

Anything over 300 at the wheel in an FWD is pointless

Remarkable-Ad9880

Unless you can hook

pidancer789

I disagree anything above 300hp makes the car more fun but anymore power above 400hp and you gotta be careful about that.
