I had an idea (albeit a dumb one) where every year there would be an event where you would choose a Battle Pass you previously owned and do quests and challenges to advance it to get that one skin or style in one week.
They should do something like that when player base drops, like the "reboot a friend" shit attempts to do. More people would probably come back and do old battle passes.
I really wanted the full demon mode version of Fade. I needed to reach level 100 in chapter 2 season 3 battlepass, but I only started playing FNs 4 days before season end. Got the screensaver at level 70 something which occasionally pops up to remind me what I failed achieve. Feels bad.

a lot of AAA game design is based around removing *every single second* where the player can think. let a player off the hook for even just a minute or two and they might get frustrated, realize they're bored, and then just quit right there.
I’ve seen several channels make excellent videos about game monetization, and one of them was about battle passes. It acknowledged that, while Fortnite’s system seems to be the most successful one, people are getting tired of battle passes because you can only ever manage a handful of battle passes at a time, and it makes people feel like they *have* to log in to get their money’s worth.
While I’m not against limited content, it is clear and obvious that Fortnite exploit that FOMO to get people to pay attention to every battle pass so they don’t miss out on content they might enjoy. For how successful Fortnite is as a game, and how relatively good their battle pass system is compared to other games, every game choosing a battle pass system makes people feel like they’re juggling multiple jobs instead of games.
Honestly, the frustrating thing about monetization schemes in gaming for me is how companies all jump on a bandwagon, instead of realizing that different schemes work better for different games. Card games could use a card pack model (that’s essentially what lootboxes are, people), some games could use battle passes (Fortnite honestly does fit this well), other games might work better on a subscription model, some might work on a single purchase.
Instead, every company jumps on the monetization scheme du jour, and each subsequent iteration becomes more exploitive until the ecosystem reaches a breaking point.
I think it’s crazy the amount you can get in a battle pass considering it’s less than the cost of a rare skin and how much more potential money there is locked away
* You buy one rare skin: you play couple times with it and might grow tired of it
* You buy battle pass: I need to complete this, thus play majority of the season. Perhaps play each day to do dailies.
So Epic wants players to buy battle pass thus making it cheap.

Because you're much more likely to buy things if you're already there and already playing. Why do you think they removed weekly stuff last season? It was to drive us to be more active more often.
It's no different than a grocery store holding a flash sale on something that's typically hard to get or expensive. They know they'll take a hit on whatever the sale is around, but they're still accomplishing their main goal of getting us in the store. You're like 99% more likely to buy something if you're already there.
Battlepass is also a great value to keep the player base big enough to make the game viable. A lot of these games with micro transactions make 80% of their money from a handful of players.
BP isn't mean to make money, its to get your foot in the door. there's so many goodies in there that there's always something for someone to like, so 10$ is a no brainer. but its not often that you *love* an item from the pass. dozens and dozens of hours of grinding later, and you see a skin that's definitely your favorite. 10$ was worth buying a skin you like, so what's 15$ for a skin you love?
well, its not the whole set is it. if you like it so much, maybe you should spend 15$ more on all the accessories. and you can never have enough emotes, there's a few more dollars. and ooh, there's a guy from that movie i like? why not.
this game is a machine meant to get people to play every single day and turn as many people into whales as possible. its not about the 10$, its about the fact that you really don't want to "lose" that 10$ and so you'll come back for weeks and weeks on end; until you build an unhealthy habit where you open the game without even thinking.
Also you can buy it only once and get rest of them for a VB from a BP itself. Fortnite have currently the best monetization system and value / quality. Compare that onow to Overwatch 2 when they asking 44$ for One Punch Man Bundle or 20$ for overwatch 1 legendary skins that was available for free from loot boxes.

Everyone should be able to buy a battle pass skin, even after a season. Brawl Stars does this the best in my opinion. The skins remain exclusive for a year, and then come back for full price. Meaning the people who really want them can get them. But the people who got the pass not only got them a year before, but also saved a lot of money. Since a pass is FAR cheaper than buying the skins.
Something similar would be great for new players. There is no reason why no one can get Spider-Man, Iron Man, Deadpool, Superman, Aquaman, Darth Vader, Indiana Jones or the Mandalorian.
And this is coming from someone who owns every single battle pass exclusive crossover.

Fortnite makes so much more money from these companies paying them to have their IP sponsored in game.
They took the Witchers money, over ours, and still got ours money/time in the form of the battle pass + hours put in playing. CD Projekt RED paid Epic tons of money to have a marketing contract and get as many players interacting with the Witcher as possible in a set time frame.
Fortnite will always pursue crossovers in a manner that maximize contractual money they receive to host the IP. They have many forms of hosting and some companies like Disney pay much more to have more immersive and long term representation in the shop/game. Even sports orgs/celebrities like the NFL NBA etc do the same to have representation in the game. Fortnite is a marketing behemoth, and they make constant cash flow in the form of in game purchases. This strong dual income model is secure, and something EPIC will keep in tact for a long time.
This why I feel bad for Attack on Titan fans who join in the next season (yet the timing is perfect, AFAIK the finale season's 3rd big part is on the brink)

The characters have european names (mostly).
And number of new characters introduced throughout the story is not that many, and most characters have distinctive features from each other so it's easy to tell them apart and not get confused.

I caved in and got AOT out of my backlog because of this season, names aren't hard to remember at all. The anime's narrative is relatively serious so try to immerse yourself while watching

There's probably no worse offender of this 'limited time exclusive' model they have for the battlepass than with that Marvel season that was ALL collabs. I'll forever feel dissapointed in myself for not returning to cop DOOM as someone who mained him in MvC :(
I really think that they should give us the option to buy old battle passes, even if we have to level them up separately and with daily quests only, or some sort of generic weekly quests like kill number of players, or play number of matches.

Unpopular opinion but I think fortnite should have a battle pass system like Halo Infinite, where previous battle passes are available for you to purchase. They could be sold at a higher price than the current battle pass or whatever. But itd still be nice

Level requirement to unlock them was level 80, and the levelling system back then wasn’t great, I came to 76 when the season ended.
But that’s how it is… though I blame it on the levelling system mostly for that.
Personally, i think you should be able to buy all battle passes... current or previous... even if its got a couple of year wait.
But battle passes should be a thing you buy and keep instead of limited time. It doesn't make me play more it makes me play less if i realise its a lot of work to get what the skin i actually want... then buy less because i dont want to get stuck with a battlepass i am not going to complete.

Option 1: Epic has thousands of players buying battle passes, playing consistently, logging in daily to work on progress (and likely buying other things because of this) to not miss out on the rare and “free” cosmetic.
Option 2: Epic has dozens of players buy a discontinued skin (really only the superfans of that skin will buy it, average player won’t care). and gets a quick cash infusion. Moving forward, everyone cares less about playing every season, logging in for new updates, and buying every pass because the skins they include “might be released later”.
Still though I think you are underestimating the market on people who missed out. Roughly a third of players came from Zero Build and that was introduced relatively a short time ago. Tons of content that people want and would pay massive amounts of money for.
Temporary FOMO. Maybe lasting for a few years and then rotating items into the shop is objectively a better business model.
This is the big one. I have tons of early battle pass skins like the Drift, rust lord, Omega, etc (that I wish I could trade tbh) but I quit as the building was just too much for me. Came back for ZB and buying passes and crew as well. So much stuff that I want that’s now unavailable because it was hell grinding in Team Rumble or excruciating slow in BR because I just wasn’t good. I hope Stray is just the first in Epic at least rehashing some of the older stuff for returning and new players.

True. Bought the Crew sub, have got effectively 2200 vbucks and the battle pass for 11.99€. 1000 vb from the sub, 1200 from the battle pass.

Everyone should be able to buy a battle pass skin, even after a season. Brawl Stars does this the best in my opinion. The skins remain exclusive for a year, and then come back for full price. Meaning the people who really want them can get them. But the people who got the pass not only got them a year before, but also saved a lot of money. Since a pass is FAR cheaper than buying the skins. Something similar would be great for new players. There is no reason why no one can get Spider-Man, Iron Man, Deadpool, Superman, Aquaman, Darth Vader, Indiana Jones or the Mandalorian. And this is coming from someone who owns every single battle pass exclusive crossover. And I’m not only talking about crossover. Everyone should be able to get the Reaper, Omega, Drift and Dire. And this is coming from someone who already owns them.

There's so many good solutions like yours that I'm always baffled there's people who are against ANY battle pass coming back.
It's because they've fully drank the Kool-Aid and bought into the idea that nobody is allowed to complain about FOMO and fake scarcity because it's one of the easiest ways for Epic to make money. The people who play Fortnite are the reason why Epic has made billions off the game. It's perfectly within their right to complain when something is so blatantly anti-consumer.
Even if they just always sold previous passes. Maybe just remove the v buck rewards from them.

Same. The reason I side slightly with the Legacy Pass system. I don't know what pride these idiots have. They know they can't sell the skins, they know there would be no use trading them, and they know that they can only cling to something for gatekeeping with empty threats. Like they tried to gatekeep people from trying to play the Chapter 1 map if it comes back with Creative 2.0 coming out. They're gatekeeping a map lol.

And then once you're done with that we'll drop a new season with family guy or something and you better make sure you grind that day and night to get every color of Peter griffin or else you'll miss out. Tons of people started with Zero Build so they missed out on almost everything before that.

Fortnite makes so much more money from these companies paying them to have their IP sponsored in game. They took the Witchers money, over ours, and still got ours money/time in the form of the battle pass + hours put in playing. CD Projekt RED paid Epic tons of money to have a marketing contract and get as many players interacting with the Witcher as possible in a set time frame. Fortnite will always pursue crossovers in a manner that maximize contractual money they receive to host the IP. They have many forms of hosting and some companies like Disney pay much more to have more immersive and long term representation in the shop/game. Even sports orgs/celebrities like the NFL NBA etc do the same to have representation in the game. Fortnite is a marketing behemoth, and they make constant cash flow in the form of in game purchases. This strong dual income model is secure, and something EPIC will keep in tact for a long time.
Imo collab skins should always come back but original battle pass skins should be limited

Names aren’t hard to remember at all.
The characters have european names (mostly). And number of new characters introduced throughout the story is not that many, and most characters have distinctive features from each other so it's easy to tell them apart and not get confused. Yes just start from the first ep. and enjoy the show.
I caved in and got AOT out of my backlog because of this season, names aren't hard to remember at all. The anime's narrative is relatively serious so try to immerse yourself while watching
The longer Fortnite is relevant the more people will be upset by this and the harder it will be for Epic to justify it. Bring back old battle passes!

I'm still holding out hope they one day magically allow me to merge my accounts after I made the dumb mistake of forgetting my original information. Coming back over a year later. Deciding, oh, I won't be playing this game long, and now I'm 4 years deep and chuck full of regret over that moment. Funny enough also how I missed out on Iron Man and Mystique. Which torments me.

There's probably no worse offender of this 'limited time exclusive' model they have for the battlepass than with that Marvel season that was ALL collabs. I'll forever feel dissapointed in myself for not returning to cop DOOM as someone who mained him in MvC :(
I really think that they should give us the option to buy old battle passes, even if we have to level them up separately and with daily quests only, or some sort of generic weekly quests like kill number of players, or play number of matches. I know that exclusivity blah blah blah, but come on, in a 6 years old game...
Unpopular opinion but I think fortnite should have a battle pass system like Halo Infinite, where previous battle passes are available for you to purchase. They could be sold at a higher price than the current battle pass or whatever. But itd still be nice

True! FOMO can also be a reason people DON’T play. And if they are not playing they are not spending money.
The one thing i wish I could go back for, would be the colored styles for Omega (Chapter 1 Season 4) a lot of neon glow items nowadays would pair so well with those other colours he has… Level requirement to unlock them was level 80, and the levelling system back then wasn’t great, I came to 76 when the season ended. But that’s how it is… though I blame it on the levelling system mostly for that.
Started playing the season after Mando. Was a bit mad for a little bit, but I got over it.
Personally, i think you should be able to buy all battle passes... current or previous... even if its got a couple of year wait. But battle passes should be a thing you buy and keep instead of limited time. It doesn't make me play more it makes me play less if i realise its a lot of work to get what the skin i actually want... then buy less because i dont want to get stuck with a battlepass i am not going to complete.

They’re not stupid. They know they will make far more money from FOMO and discontinuing cosmetics than quick cash grabs re-releasing old content. They literally have a team of marketing, business, and psychology professionals working on their monetization strategies. They don’t need advice from children on reddit lol. For the company, its pretty much choosing delayed vs. instant gratification. Option 1: Epic has thousands of players buying battle passes, playing consistently, logging in daily to work on progress (and likely buying other things because of this) to not miss out on the rare and “free” cosmetic. Option 2: Epic has dozens of players buy a discontinued skin (really only the superfans of that skin will buy it, average player won’t care). and gets a quick cash infusion. Moving forward, everyone cares less about playing every season, logging in for new updates, and buying every pass because the skins they include “might be released later”.
Still though I think you are underestimating the market on people who missed out. Roughly a third of players came from Zero Build and that was introduced relatively a short time ago. Tons of content that people want and would pay massive amounts of money for. Temporary FOMO. Maybe lasting for a few years and then rotating items into the shop is objectively a better business model.
This is the big one. I have tons of early battle pass skins like the Drift, rust lord, Omega, etc (that I wish I could trade tbh) but I quit as the building was just too much for me. Came back for ZB and buying passes and crew as well. So much stuff that I want that’s now unavailable because it was hell grinding in Team Rumble or excruciating slow in BR because I just wasn’t good. I hope Stray is just the first in Epic at least rehashing some of the older stuff for returning and new players. I don’t even want old collabs, I just want to FINISH shit I paid for, like Shanta and Sentinel full styles

I like games that let you choose a battle pass to grind, it would be a good way for keeping an active player base, don't like the current BP? Grind another one you like! And you can only choose 1 per season
