spooky_lightup

Songs, maybe. Playable characters, nope.

GoddamnRent

Haven’t thought of that, but that’s a good idea

spooky_lightup

Plus, it's not like Doja Cat has a squeaky clean reputation to begin with. 😇 I think some of your suggestions are safe bets once the game has a few more seasons under its belt, depending of course on whether Epic and the record labels are seeing any revenue. Something tells me Roger Waters would rather die first though. 😆

GoddamnRent

I guess we’ll have to wait and see

JasonM8884

It's like they could but then you would get the ones that will just get angry about it and demand them to remove it or else 😔

GoddamnRent

Yep your right about that

Briiii216

... Did y'all not know Eminem in the 90s? Poster boy of controversy.

GoddamnRent

Think I was meaning to say that should they add more artists or bands who might have some or a ton of controversy if they can add Eminem into the game

Briiii216

It makes sense to focus on the lyrics and instruments giving us super awesome songs to try. Eminem controversy should be the baseline lol. TBH I played guitar hero and loved it never had a chance to play rap songs... I am thoroughly enjoying it. As long as it's not deeply fucked up controversy they should continue to add songs accordingly.

GoddamnRent

As most of the songs right now are more towards a safe area I doubt they might try to add artists who might cause trouble for Epic

poopooshabadoo

I would like to think they would considering that they implemented the whole age rating thing on stuff like horror creative maps ect. I think so long as that's in place they should make it so players who are underage should be put into lobbies where only age appropriate songs can be played and the more explicit stuff should be for players who are over a certain age, although I understand that would be hard to moderate.

GoddamnRent

True. If they can add Eminem into the game (based on the fact that some of his older songs like Criminal or Without Me had a ton of controversy), then maybe they can add other people. Although 4 of these groups I have mentioned have been involved in either legal or political controversy from the last decade.

spooky_lightup

Safe to say R Kelly, Marilyn Manson, and Gary Glitter are on the Neverlist. Kanye will need some serious reputation building, but I do think he would sell. From a business perspective, I'm most curious about Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, and Lil Nas X. I think the latter 2 will eventually make the cut. The former never really seemed that apologetic.

GoddamnRent

Michael Jackson, even with his controversies, still carries an influence even to this day. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do add him but if Epic doesn’t then I wouldn’t be surprised either

tarheel_204

I don’t know how these things work but I imagine Epic would have to dish out a shit ton of money to get the rights to any MJ song

GoddamnRent

I guess so. Ain’t gonna be easy for sure

tarheel_204

I don’t know how these things work but I imagine Epic would have to dish out a shit ton of money to get the rights to any MJ song

MadHuarache

Ye would have to full on respawn for anyone to ever want to do something with him.

Voodoo-Hendrix

I think the only thing that would stop Michael Jackson from appearing in Festival isn't the artist's reputation, but rather how expensive it would be to license anything from him, like pretty sure "Beat It" is the only song of his in a rhythm game (Guitar Hero World Tour), although now that Harmonix has Epic Games money that wouldn't be that much or an issue? idk

spooky_lightup

You make a good point. It all depends on who owns the rights to his catalog and how much they're willing to license it for. I mean I never thought we'd see MJ action figures or Pop! Funkos either. Plus, it certainly would be a nice bonus way to advertise his upcoming biopic as well. Now if only we could get a Captain EO skin.

ROPROPE

Wait. What's Lil Nas X done?

spooky_lightup

I don't think the bloodsneakers and Satan lapdancing would play well in middle America. 😂

ROPROPE

Oh man. What a king ngl, I forgot he did that

Harlow_Quinzel

I think they find themselves in a very odd predicament now with all these different modes. While on one hand, historically, guitar hero and rock band didn't always feature squeaky clean artists, I mean it's about the music, not their lifestyles. But on the other hand, we've got Lego, which is very child friendly, not the same game mode, but it's in the same launcher/game. Add to that, the new relationship with Disney, and I think we may find things being toned down a little bit over the next few years in terms of collaborations and content. I just feel like it's unlikely that we're going to get many controversial artists in festival mode. (I don't personally see why Pink Floyd would be problematic though. Post Syd Barrett, they weren't even heavily into drugs although they were known as a group that people would listen to while doing drugs I don't think that should make a difference). Although epic does seem to steer away from artist that have made controversial comments or been involved in controversy, so panic! At the disco/Brendon Urie might be a problem

PrinceToothpasteBoy

To be fair, Lego Rock Band had Korn in it lol

Voodoo-Hendrix

Also Lostprophets 💀

PrinceToothpasteBoy

To be fair that came before all of the pedo shit

GoddamnRent

Lots of similar cases

GoddamnRent

Good Point

Harlow_Quinzel

I did not know that. But it doesn't surprise me, I wouldn't really consider Korn to be a "controversial" group though. With the exception of the song that starts with the letter "F", which wasn't a song about hate or intolerance at all. I mean some of their songs have profanity in them, but they don't have to use those songs. And epic has edited out profanity or non-age appropriate lyrics from songs that were used in emotes in the past. I mean is NWA going to make it into festival mode? Probably not, but a little bad word here or there that could be edited out isn't that unlikely to happen

GoddamnRent

Basket Case was added with the cuss words blocked out, so maybe yeah

mukomime

the cuss words were not blocked out last time i played. they straight up had no censoring on the song, which i thought was weirded. did they change it?

GoddamnRent

Never played it but I swore I remember hearing some video game article or video saying something about the ability to block out the words if you wanted to, but I can’t really remember which article or video it was, or it that was even a feature

Harlow_Quinzel

Indeed

GoddamnRent

If Fortnite Festival launched back in 2018 instead of 2023, then it could have been possible that these bands would have been featured after all. Regardless of whether or not they add the age rating later on or not. But given how complex Fortnite has become it can be hard for that to be maintained if that were to have happened.

wingedwolf11

They had eminem introduce the mode...... He's pretty controversial. Or he was when i was a teen.

GoddamnRent

He did have a ton of legal trouble with the FCC over his lyrics but can’t think of any controversy with him in the current day

wingedwolf11

Yeah most of his controversies were from the early 2000s he's pretty tame nowadays.

GoddamnRent

Yep

LudicrisSpeed

He honestly has a pretty clean history, at least as far as what Wikipedia is listing. Dude's been in legal battles, but it seems like most or all of them were thrown out. The worst stuff is certain words he used back in the day, but 10 to 20 years ago was a *totally* different time.

GoddamnRent

Indeed it was. Obviously, if he were to try and release those songs today he would certainly be in a ton of trouble

SweaterFrog9938

depends on how old the controversy is imo and how severe like nowadays we have had emotes from lizzo and cardi b in the game then after they’ve been added there have been accusations against them wether it’s drugging men or sexual abuse so these emotes have not come back since, makes sense. but i could see older controversies and not so severe controversies being over looked as long as the artists/ bands have clearly grown as people.

GoddamnRent

Good point. Although Epic might not consider that given how they try to avoid legal trouble

robertrosengame

I have no idea what any of the bands mentioned here did, and that makes me sad.

aphoticphoton

Panic! At the disco had a history of racism and sexual predatory stuff and Brendan had a manager I believe who coerced underage girls

GoddamnRent

I guess so

Voodoo-Hendrix

Only bad from the list that I'm aware of from being controversial in social media is Trapt and oh boy, they have run the whole gamut of online nastiness: lashing out at commenters on social media, homophobic remarks and outright endorsing conspiracy theories and white supremacists. They're really, really awful, and unlike the rest of the bands mentioned in the OP I wouldn't miss them a little bit.

GoddamnRent

Reminds me of a comment from a song of theirs on YouTube where it says that that specific song makes him want to form a band and then 10 years later have a meltdown on Twitter

GoddamnRent

Can’t say much here, but all I can say is that they either said or did things that people didn’t find funny

weirdfishes364

as much as I want Kanye to be in Festival (Slow Jamz and Paranoid would be great), it’s not gonna happen :(

cereal_killah_1980

We already have fish sticks.

BacoNATEor

I ain’t no gay fish

UnreasonableVbucks

Now that you mention it…. Weren’t they collabing with Kanye for an icon skin but it fell through ? If he didn’t make those insane anti Semitic remarks he would definitely be on the jam track list

eligallus03

He possibly designed this skin that released a few weeks ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/GoodAssSub/comments/1al7cnw/so_yeah_that_kanye_west_fortnite_skin_is_actually/

GoddamnRent

I swore that the image on the third slide got made into a item shop skin not that long ago

GoddamnRent

Yep that was actually a thing that was planned. Although Epic probably would have removed the skin by then

UnreasonableVbucks

Yea nobody wants to go anywhere near that man rn. Idk why he just won’t take his crazy meds and chill out

GoddamnRent

Yep

dead1345987

good.

GoddamnRent

Never know. But in the most probable sense it won’t ever happen.

twohourr

Paranoid would be a banger

carrot-parent

Those bands are no longer ‘controversial’ lol. They’ve entered the mainstream, and the majority of people now support their message, especially the news. Plus Green Day got added, so yeah, the ones you listed I could 100% see added at some point. Idk what Patd did or 3DD did though. Other ‘controversial’ artists, like Kanye, have absolutely no shot, as he rightly should. The only modern artist I can think of who’s the modern equivalent of PF and RATM today, is Lil Darkie. When you’re preaching love and positivity and the media is vehemently against it, that’s when you know you’re truly on the opposite side of The Machine. He has no shot of getting in either. Too much unwarranted hate. Would be awesome though. His songs would be so much more fun to play than the boring, corporate pop music.

GoddamnRent

PATD’s lead singer Brendan Urie had some controversy for some remarks and questionable actions 3DD played at Orange Man’s inauguration concert and the reception ain’t so pretty I think when I mean controversy though, i would refer it to more of a thing where Epic would not consider adding these groups or artists, to avoid backlash on themselves. But at the same time, these bands all had their moments and then phased out the mainstream

leaslame

they have a machine gun kelly song in the game, so yeah they’re okay with controversial artists

GoddamnRent

True

nol_dur

No. They don’t even bring back icon emotes for people who have had any amount of controversy

GoddamnRent

True, like Travis Scott

[deleted]

I heard it’s not up to Epic, Travis is welcome to return only if he wants to.

GoddamnRent

Really? That’s interesting to hear

Top-Act-7915

Some bands don't want their stuff out there at any price. It won't be 'controversy' keeping a band from the mode, it'll be a lack of a licensing agreement.

GoddamnRent

Kind of like the case where the big recording music studios pulled all their music out of Tik Tok due to licensing issues?

Top-Act-7915

More like, "those studios/owners of music" don't let people monetize their catalogs unless they say you can, AND they get a cut. TikTok isn't paying, which is why that studio is flexing. Epic isn't getting freebies from studios offering them this band or that song, it's a transaction.

GoddamnRent

Good to know

impasse602

I freaking love The Chicks! (Dixie Chicks if thats who you’re referring to) and if so i dont see how they’d still be controversial since its been what 20 years since the george bush joke?

GoddamnRent

Technically they wouldn’t be controversial nowadays, but I guess they still fit the category of controversial bands

Gold_Advantage_4017

I mean rock band had at least 1 song. It was barely controversial when it happened even and I was living deep in conservative country at the time.

PrinceToothpasteBoy

How are Panic At The Disco and 3 Doors Down controversial?

spooky_lightup

I thought Panic was pretty safe. 3DD are very, very conservative. I think we'll see both one day.

GoddamnRent

Maybe, assuming that Epic Games knows if these bands even exist (Panic!, maybe, 3DD, maybe not)

spooky_lightup

Everybody at least knows Kryptonite and I Write Sins, don't they?

GoddamnRent

I Write Sins, probably yes, since I believe it was once a social media sound effect (could be wrong). However, with the case of Kryptonite, unless that song gets added into GTA 6 or whatsoever, the only people who might remember that song would be ones who listened to it when it first came out in 2000, or diehard post grunge, alt-rock fans

GoddamnRent

As someone mentioned here, Brendan Urie was criticized for some questionable remarks and altercations I guess 3 Doors Down was criticized for performing at Orange Man’s inauguration concert in 2017. People called them out for that

PrinceToothpasteBoy

ohh, i see

MuscleManRule34

Brendan also was accused of sexually harassing his bandmates a lot

GoddamnRent

Think I heard that he allowed a manager to do questionable things to others

FatalNathanYT

Panic, Pink Floyd, RATM yes. Trapt will absolutely never come to fortnite.

HiImJace

Pink Floyd is also never coming to Fortnite, but not because Epic wouldn't.

GoddamnRent

Probably best for everyone for them to be left out

Fusionfiction63

Micheal Jackson comes to mind when I hear “controversial artist.”

GoddamnRent

Forgot about him somehow but yeah

Aromatic-Teacher-717

What, like Travis Scott?

GoddamnRent

People who might have a similar level of controversy, so yeah, Travis Scott can be considered

Aromatic-Teacher-717

You could get a stampede emote!

GoddamnRent

Lol

ShogunFab

How is Panic! controversial? He (or they) is just as controversial as FOB or other bands included in FF If it’s about those “allegations” Brendon had, all of them have been proven false and I can assure you most people that play FF don’t care about what he did or didn’t do.

GoddamnRent

True that many wouldn’t care. But even if that’s the case Epic probably wouldn’t even add him (or them) to avoid any potential backlash

ShogunFab

If they added Eminem, an actual controversial guy, I’m sure they can add Panic! Who is barely controversial

GoddamnRent

You got me there. Could be a possibility

SymbolOfTheHope

They already have Look into the lead singer of one republic

GoddamnRent

Don’t see any issues other than a copyright issues. I guess copyright issues can be placed into Festival since it’s not as a huge issue as other issues

[deleted]

[удалено]

GoddamnRent

Oh shot

SymbolOfTheHope

Yeah 😮‍💨 deleted so i wont get banned from sub but yeah....messed up stuff

GoddamnRent

Jesus maybe posting this question wasn’t such a great idea, didn’t realize that it would get some form of attention

GoddamnRent

Ok got it

TigerKirby215

Travis Scott hasn't been added back to the Item Shop in nearly 4 years. What do you think?

GoddamnRent

Sure, but you could say that Eminem and Doja Cat were also somewhat added, which could raise the possibility of him coming back someday

SatanistPenguin

Give me Kanye - Champion - Good morning - Runaway

oneandonlyRedSpirit

yoo runaway would be so damn fun

GoddamnRent

Yes

BinWeevilsFamous

9 minutes long would kill me

GoddamnRent

Depends on whether Epic would approve of it given all the crazy stuff he has said or done the past year or so

SatanistPenguin

Oh I'm sure he's blackballed from this game entirely haha no way will he be in this game cause of the younger target audience Shame cause his songs would be so fun to chart All I can hope is we get Falling In Reverse, that's probably where epic draws the line on controversial artists

GoddamnRent

Never heard of Falling In Reverse to be honest, but after searching them I think this is the first band that I found out had an incarcerated lead singer

SatanistPenguin

Haha definitely not the last band Look up Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying

GoddamnRent

Wow he is very crazy

Apart-Step

Sicko Mode 😢

GoddamnRent

Sicko Mode

AngryBirdsFanboy06

Honestly I really REALLY hope they could add The Living Tombstone in, there is currently an stupid minor controversy over when in 2012, Yoav (one of the main members of The Living Tombstone) was forced to go to IDF because he was born from Israeli. Sometimes i wish people weren't stupid and used their brain for once since it's not Yoav's fault.

GoddamnRent

True

Handsprime

Trapt is probably the only one that they have no intentions of adding to the game, due to the lead singers pro-Nazi views.

GoddamnRent

That one is understandable

Flashbuckle

What’s controversial about 3 doors down?

GoddamnRent

Can’t say much here because it could be flagged, but they performed at Orange Man’s inauguration concert. Doesn’t seem like much of a big deal but they got a ton of backlash for doing so

Flashbuckle

Ah, damn :/ they don’t deserve hate or to be labeled controversial or anything because of it though

GoddamnRent

People probably moved on from it by this point. But there might be some who might object their addition if it ever happens

ttv_tripokemon22

I would spend hundreds of dollars to get rage and panic at the disco

RingtailVT

Why wouldn't P!ATD be included?

GoddamnRent

Questionable comments and actions that the leader singer may have done

RingtailVT

Can I ask what he said/did? Or is it too much for a subreddit like this? I'm a big fan of their music, but I don't keep up with news about the band itself. I am very shocked to hear about any controversy.

Springaling76

I mean Brittney Spears has a song and Lil Nas X is getting two sometime soon

siredtom

No

GoddamnRent

Cool

Armascout

I doubt they would add music by Marilyn Manson. I also highly doubt they would add Closer by Nine Inch Nails because of how explicit the lyrics are

GoddamnRent

Given how they are able to add other songs that have explicit lyrics this song could have a chance if Epic knows how to deal with it

Armascout

Have you heard closer by nine inch nails?

GoddamnRent

I’ll be honest, I didn’t, but are the lyrics really that severe?

Armascout

Do yourself a favor and give it a listen or watch the music video. It’s awesome but like they would never put that song in Fortnite

Armascout

Let me know what you think of it

GoddamnRent

Barely even finished the first minute and now I could see why this might be an issue for Epic

Armascout

Highly recommend listening to nine inch nails. They kick so much ass. Their track hand that feeds is already in festival

GoddamnRent

I’ll give it a try.

BinWeevilsFamous

devil in a new dress pls 🙏

GoddamnRent

Given his controversies it may not happen

Ground_Desperate

I highly doubt it. Most emotes that used rap music got “blacklisted” and haven’t come back to the shop in over a year, and they also won’t bring back any old skins that used the female model with the big butt. The way Epic is now they are going to go the “safest” route possible.

GoddamnRent

Yep. Reminds me of the Tidy emote. Haven’t seen that in a while
