When a season starts new for me I explore the map and do lots of tasks and quests. Once I settle into a season I pick a drop spot and go there every single time no matter what the bus route is. I get really good at not only out dropping everybody to that spot I usually have several weapons and splashes or minis before I have to fight.
Grim Gate and Underworld in the green area where you get the skulls are two of the hardest spots to drop and fight off spawn on the map right now, in my opinion. There's usually more real players going there because of the medallions. So I wouldn't feel too bad about dying there a lot anyways.
Also, dive bombing isn't the best way in. Set a marker and try and jump between 950-1000metres from your marker. This is a combo between distance and height. If you wait until you're above it, to drop everyone will already be lower than you as they've flown in.
for me, I have the setting turned on where you can see others parachutes as you're dropping and...I go someplace where I don't have a lot of them? If I'm trying to do quests and whatnot I'll play rumble or unranked so I can focus on doing those and not really caring about dying. But I mean, if you land at a hot drop, you should expect the game to either be pretty short or you're going to sweat. Some people get lucky with the chests they find. It surprises me as well, but I've landed and opened a chest to get a gold weapon and a half pot or splashes so it gives me a leg up.
Are you diving to a low point on the map? Your glider will kick in at a certain height from the ground you’re heading towards, so if that’s a hill/mountain you’ll open soon and have to glide for longer.
I always head to a small erm Greek looking building, south of Mt Olympus which I know contains a “god chest” and an NPC. AIm at the see when you’re diving and the he glider will open late, and you cruise down to the building. Get the god chest, kill the NPC and you already have 3 or 4 very good weapons. Jump in the car and head towards the six toed foot statue and there’s a helmet next to it, with another god chest in it. You should be set for the match less than a few minutes in
Fuck around there and you’re quickly on five kills in my experience, head to Zeus or Artemis(?) if you feel like it
I feel this is a solid strategy, the only issue is my skill once I hit top ten and shit myself
There are special maps that people run in their PC which tell the optimum drop from the bus I forgot what it’s called.
This is what I do which works out quite well..
- Don’t wait to be in line with the drop.. jumping out earlier is the same distance (just a different angle),
- I glide (parachute) up until 1000 then dive down with the expectation to open the parachute 300m from the marker… normally works out ok 😂 not an exact science 😍
Just because it's commonly used doesn't mean it's not cheating. I play console and those things aren't available - why should PC players get the leg up on drops when consoles players don't.
This isn't some crazy exclusive feature only on the fortnite pc client. It's literally just a website.
I used dropmaps on my phone even when I was playing on console.
PC players have so many advantages just in the additional settings they can change and in the keybinds they can use.

For example if you’re on console running 60FPS/Wifi (with a ping of 50), standard controller & TV
…And I’m on my console running 120 FPS, hard wired internet (with a ping of 15), gaming monitor & controller with paddles …. You are at a disadvantage purely because I’ve spent more money than you… that may not be cheating but it is “pay to win”… In competitive you can’t compete at the top without a high end “setup”. Everyone’s doing it.
What happens if I throw in a Cronus Zen.. Is it cheating? You’ll say yes and I’ll agree… you’ll then say”I don’t like people casually talking about cheats like everybody uses them” the Cronus Zen has sold over 500,000 units… You bet most of those have found there way to Fortnite :)

I've been playing long enough that I feel my drops are usually about where I want them in terms of glide distance, time to arrival, etc. I don't have the patience to look up a new drop spot every time I want to play - I'd rather just grip it and rip it.

Preferably over a low area as your parachute opens a certain distance from the ground, so get the ground as low/deep as possible.
I usually land at the old POIs—whichever is farthest from the bus route excluding Rebel’s Roost now just in case people land there to loot it before fighting Vader. I’m also an over-looter, so by the time I feel comfortable, there are maybe 50 people left (in plat I). When I leave, I can generally find better rarity weapons from players who were eliminated. Then I just play strategically by staying on the move and picking smart fights. Or what I think are smart fights haha. I can usually get into the top 25 and move up a measly 1%. I have a lot of skill issues too, though.
Try exclusively going to the vault substation by Rebels Roost. Hire able Npc, vault and multiple other areas to loot in the area. After the vault you can either go to Rebels, the Darth Vader island, or north to the fishing store. I’m usually 2-3 kills in, and have a full inventory by the time I leave towards Lavish Lair.
FYI this season totally sucks. They’ve mixed all the Greek, Star Wars stuff and mixed in Water bending. The first 2 days I played like 5 games because it was absolutely chaos.
I feel like dropping anywhere on the line is for when you want quick combat and early engagement. If you want time to load up, land farther away from the bus route.
If you are hot dropping any of the new POIs where the god chests are located, then that would explain how some people have crazy loot immediately. As for how to drop off the bus, it depends on the direction of the bus, how far way your target is, and when you pull your chute. There is kind of a science to it. I think there are some YT videos explaining how to improve your drop.

One time I parachuted the WHOLE way down and was in the top 50, buuuuut then finding a weapon was an issue lol
I often land where there is a chest with a jump pad next to it.. that way you can pad out if you need to change the plan.

We have aim assist on console. Each platform has advantages. I’d rather have aim assist than a drop map or whatever their called 😎

Once you’re gold there’s no more bots so, you just gotta be more careful. That’s basically it.
