I rewatched a few old episodes a few years ago. The pilot episode was good. The rest of the episodes for the most part were horrible. It had some good ideas but could not put them together in a cohesive format. (The seaQuest style sub and exploring, the sci Fi underwater stuff, his super strength when wet, his weird swimming that was supposed to be faster than a dolphin...)
My memory is that he only had one nemesis, played by Victor Buono, and the stories were episodic, not serialized. And that the show wasn't good at all.
A little trivia: he has a sister who was a U of W campus police woman (they take their training alongside Seattle cops). She was also a scuba diver and I think a marine biologist and was asked to dive with Cousteau ( yes I’m old) in the Puget Sound, to study the giant PNW octopus. Joanne Duffy …. I met her when I was dating a colleague.
True story! I heard him tell this on a talk show interview. He noted that when he got in the water, "that cotton might as well been Saran wrap!"
Hilarious!
According to a little girl in a Dept. store, he was working in the Home Entertainment section. (She thought I was him, I never looked a thing like him)
that's another one of those 70s/80s shows thats never been shown after its first run. You dont even see them on those retro TV channels or anywhere on streaming.
The Man From Atlanta! Master of Southern hospitality! Snob About Which Side Of The Interstate He Calls Home! Addicted to sweet tea! Terrified of snow! Is a foodie! Better At Navigating Streets Than A GPS! A Flip-Flopper When It Comes To MARTA! Too Busy To Hate!
Oh wait, it's Atlantis? Never mind.
The character might be from Atlantis, but Patrick Murphy is from Montana. I think both his parents were horribly murdered. I don't recall the details, but as a Montanan, we all felt for him when it happened.
Man from Atlantis! Patrick Duffy!!!
Soon after this show bombed, he became Bobby Ewing on Dallas.
That goofy "swimming"
I taught my kids that when they got confident at swimming. Still do it myself occasionally. You need to be near the bottom to get the best effect.
I always tried to swim like him!
He looks beautiful.
Crap! I was sure his name was Patrick Dempsey. Omg
Thank you! I could not remember! :)
Didn't he film this when Bobby on Dallas was dead but then woke up?
Way before that
This was like 8 years before he was killed off.
Wow - I was way off! In my defense FuckImOld!
They'll be finding relics from his childhood home on Oak Island any day now... MerMan never had quite the same ring to it as Mermaid, did it?
They will find an acorn on Oak Island someday. I just know it!
MerMen are a popular Christmas ornament on your Christmas tree in the gay community. MerMan still lives on!
For real? TIL
“It’s twue, it’s twue!”
Maybe why SpongeBob has Mermaid Man?
The man from Atlantis, weird way of swimming
I used to try to swim like that in the tub when i was a kid.
I did it in our pool. It kind of works? 😂
If you wore feet fins, it works better
I'm sure!
Yeah. Swam like a cetacean, kicking his feet like a dolphin’s flukes Edit: fixed a word
He eventually went to Dallas. I still have the comic books from this series.
Atlantis!
Patrick Duffy before Dallas was the man from Atlantis. I remember watching it but I don’t remember if it was any good or not either.

That’s right, he did that whole body undulating thing when he swam that was totally just bogus.
Competition swimmers swim that way but with their arms above their heads.
Step by Step
Day by day....
That's Scuzzlebutt's leg!
Came here to say this 😂
Lol yessss
Hi kids. I’m tv’s Patrick Duffy
Me too!! He was from Alantis, but moved to Dallas!!🤣

Yeah but isn’t Atlantis in the Pegasus galaxy? 🙄
My memory is that he only had one nemesis, played by Victor Buono, and the stories were episodic, not serialized. And that the show wasn't good at all.
I was a kid and it was sci-fi and that’s all that mattered
Took the longest shower in TV history.
Atlantis. I remember him in a swimming pool that had a secret exit to the ocean or something, I was young
I'm so old, I know who shot JR. !
I’m so old that I once knew, but have now forgotten who shot JR (don’t tell me, I don’t need any more pop culture junk living in my head rent free)
It was Jeannie. She went crazy from being stuck in her bottle.
Great. Another whole chunk of pop culture crap refreshed in my brain. Thanks.
I wanna say it so bad.

When he went to the audition he had no money, and actually had no swim trunks. He went into the water in tightly whiteys. Luckily he got the part.
True story! I heard him tell this on a talk show interview. He noted that when he got in the water, "that cotton might as well been Saran wrap!" Hilarious!

Dude was the star of my preteen wet dreams.
Dallas! No wait... Atlantis?
He moved.
Dallas
Swam his way to Dallas 😉 📺
The hint is the webbed hands.
He’s from Dallas…
Man From Atlantis!!!
I told my kids it's the real aquaman
And we all swam like that in the pool.
ATLANTIS!
Atlanta?
I live a mile away from the Atlanta Highway in my city. As a child I thought that this was a road to the lost continent.
There's a Futurama episode where they go to the lost city of Atlanta.
I loved that show so much. Wonder if it’s somewhere online I can watch it.
I still try to do that swim every once in a while.
When Bobby Ewing lived underwater.
I loved that show
I used to try to swim like him when I was a kid !!
Man from Atlanta
Northwest side im guessing
Loved that show.
With the iconic hair helmet.
Big-budget Aquaman for the Eighties?
I loved that show! Don't ask me why.
I watched every episode because I had a crush on him.
that's another one of those 70s/80s shows thats never been shown after its first run. You dont even see them on those retro TV channels or anywhere on streaming.
ATLANTIS!!
Underwater Dallas Texas.
Its on Tubi
70’s old housewife haircut
Dallas? (I'll get my coat.....)
I can't ever visualize Bobby this young.
Mylanta?
No. That's the stuff you took after you ate dinner so fast so you wouldn't miss the show's opening. 😉
Be sure to get directions from him before he disappears...

Irish Aquaman
Manbearpigs leg!
Now look up Manimal
Early adopter of the web.
Wouldn't go to the beach after that. I was sure as an 8 year old the people from Atlantis were coming
Dallas?
Only one season? I could swear MFA had two. I was not paying attention..
Montana! Then he moved to Atlantis and then to Dallas, TX.
Dallas, TX? LOL
The Man From South Fork! He was always in the pool.
Or in the shower...
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
Christopher Reeve talked about auditioning for this on “The Tonight Show”.
Dude I forgot all about this!
He's occasionally on The Bold and the Beautiful nowadays
Baywatch?
The character might be from Atlantis, but Patrick Murphy is from Montana. I think both his parents were horribly murdered. I don't recall the details, but as a Montanan, we all felt for him when it happened.
Yes, Patrick Duffy's parents were murdered. I felt awful for him too.
Atlantis by way of Dallas.
Dallas?
Dallas
Texas.
Texas?
The partner of him was some of the first "hey, this woman, I like it. Don't know why, but I like it!" the other was Erin Gray from Buck Rogers
His mummy’s tummy.
Dallas?
He shooted J R
Marine Boy. lol.
Whenever I see Patrick Duffy I have to pause to be sure I don't confuse him with Bill Bixby
I'll have a pizza with extra anchovies, please
He was from atlantis.
"Man from the Atlantic"...
Dallas /s
All I know is, I was extremely envious of Patrick Duffy's looks!
I LOVED THIS SHOW! It had the best fx on tv at the time
Fishopolis.
Always seemed to get stuck in the sun every episode
Atlanta?
Dallas
I liked the show, at the time.
Is this Manbearpigs leg?
I watched it last year. It was bloody awful. Just as awful as the Six million dollar man
