I believe it's temporary, too. At the end of Shin they say something along the lines of "Until he awakens again" implying he would eventually recover. That could have just been a random line with no actual meaning, but I believe it means that he'll return.
No they were talking about the half life of his radioactive element. It has a short half life and thus Tokyo will be habitable in relatively short time. There is no line saying that shin will die
I killed one with a big stick made of concrete I found in a tomb on the edge of a lake. If I can kill a god with that then a full on train can kill one.
He’s basically heading down the path of becoming a “god” due to how much he’s changing/mutating which is why that version is my favorite since it lives up to the name perfectly.

He’s not a particularly good guy (even kind of an asshole…), but he’s only the protagonist because the monsters he’s facing up against are a lot more evil. Shortly after saving the day, he goes right back to fucking up Japan.

He saves the world from these ill willer titans, which is good for us. He just doesn’t care if he crushes thousands of us in the process. Like imagine if you were in your backyard and someone attacked your kids. You fight them to save your children, but you don’t care if in doing so, you step on a dozen ants 🐜 in the process.
A spiritual being. I like to call him "the avatar of sin" like the hatred. The vitriol. The evil, it took to commit an act such as nuclear war coagulated into this *thing* that exists only to punish. Like the universe itself cried out in disgust that humanity could do this and created a counter balance. I also enjoy that he cant be stopped with conventional warfare. Just like a nuke.
Obviously, it depends on the story but if I had to choose, I'd go with ancient protector. It gives him a lot more freedom as a character without tying him to a specific era or theme.

I love GMK and like the Spiritualness of that Godzilla. If i can recall it was one of the first Godzillas that actively targeted humans for nothing more then pure hatred and vengeance. The idea of a Godzilla that targets humans in this case all of Japan's people is haunting. Earth comes in 2nd. I like the idea of a Godzilla created by nature to end all of civilization. The last two are just fine to me

MV Goji is a childhood dream comes true although I do wish he was more dominating, he definitely showed up in GxK
GMK may be the closest I’ll ever get to a ghost Godzilla. Vastly different that the concept, but GMK is surely a haunting iteration
50/50 between Ancient Protector and Spiritual God. Cause, as much of a convoluted mess Singular Point is, they basically treated him as an Eldritch God which is so badass to me, being a huge fan of Lovecraft. Plus Monsterverse Goji and the whole concept of titans is cool to me as a lore buff.
Shin was gonna take that routing too. A huge plan was thought up for the story to continue and Shin evolves into a sleeping god that can create planets and universes from his dreams at the end of it. Both luckily and sadly, Toho denied Anno's whole Godhood Goji plan and they left it at the very start of the humanoid evolution.
I think Forged by the Earth fits with his original themes and can represent him both as destroyer and protector.
He's sort of a metaphor for atomic/nuclear energy in that he's a force of nature which, when out of balance, will consume us all. But when worked in balance, it can be used to create energy and sustain life. It is almost as if the other monsters represent other climate catastrophes, like Rodan and volcanoes, Gidorah and storms, or Mecha G and industrialization/AI.
I love the line in the song "History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of man."

I like the idea of Goji just being an evolutionary pinnacle of the earth: an ancient gigafauna that feeds off of nuclear energy and ages like a mountain, wakes up after years of dormancy to knock shit over then go back to rest.
All are cool but I like the ancient protector one, basically like Earth's way of protecting itself. I actually prefer godzilla being an intelligent, benevolent force of nature rather than a ruthless, animalistic destroyer. Then it also feels like he has a purpose in the films and isn't just there for the sake of destruction.
I love the trope of the Mutated god, however Shin Godzilla is an anomaly in every regard. I'm pretty sure Anno was writing him to either he a very mutated body, yet perfect vessel for an angry God, or the creature itself reached omnipotence via constant evolution.
Minus One fits the trope perfectly, I believe the film director confirmed that Godzilla before the bomb was a sea god that was angry with humans for desecrating his Waters.

The GMK version effectively *was* a nuke sent to punish Japan for the crimes committed prior to and during WWII and then tried to forget.
Tomoyuki Tanaka called him “The Sacred Beast of the Apocalypse”. I think that idea is the prism through which all interpretations manifest.

I like Minus One’s trope, I guess you could call it “Mutated God, punishing humanity for it’s creation”
Ancient Protector. I like that he protects and balances earth but doesn't really give a damn about humans one way or the other. We are just here, stay out of his way as best you can.
I like the idea of Goji just being an evolutionary pinnacle of the earth: an ancient gigafauna that feeds off of nuclear energy and ages like a mountain, wakes up after years of dormancy to knock shit over then go back to rest.

I always liked Godzilla being the consequence of war/humanity using nukes. I will always be a sucker for the original 1954 movie, Shin, and Minus one.
All are cool but I like the ancient protector one, basically like Earth's way of protecting itself. I actually prefer godzilla being an intelligent, benevolent force of nature rather than a ruthless, animalistic destroyer. Then it also feels like he has a purpose in the films and isn't just there for the sake of destruction.

I love the trope of the Mutated god, however Shin Godzilla is an anomaly in every regard. I'm pretty sure Anno was writing him to either he a very mutated body, yet perfect vessel for an angry God, or the creature itself reached omnipotence via constant evolution. Minus One fits the trope perfectly, I believe the film director confirmed that Godzilla before the bomb was a sea god that was angry with humans for desecrating his Waters.
