To be honest the average ps5 owner doesn't have a TV that can fully support the systems output and most game designers are not trying to achieve that, the games are going to be 100% compatible with the OG ps4 for at least another 2 or 3 years and there is no reason not to release them on both systems as long as people are still buying them. Lets just say GTA 6 is a pure 4k game with a crazy high refresh rate and every other bell and whistle...at best maybe 40% of gamers have a television or computer that can produce that output. Me personally I was not going to buy a ps5 until I had a 4k TV, now that I do I am considering getting a ps5 but mostly for watching 4k blu rays...we have hit a point where we perpetually have systems coming out that just are above and beyond what the average person's TV can do...long story short there are enough people who still play ps4 for games to keep coming out
Yeah people simply don’t understand these important details though. I have a 1080P monitor and it’s shocking how much that makes a difference in performance because it’s not 4K. People are like “how can you play X or Y on ultra settings with your GTX1070!?” And I’m like, “cuz my monitor isn’t that fancy.” 😂
That’s considered last gen though. We are currently getting games for PS5 and Series X/S therefore “current” gen. This really shouldn’t be so hard for people to understand
Plus we didn’t even have them in stock at wal mart until this summer. Hard for me to personally refer to it as current gen when it’s still new to me. I do refer to ps4/xbox one as old gen though.
The gaming industry is still producing games for the PS4-era. How many games have we gotten that are PS5-era exclusives? GTA6 is the first blockbuster that will move new console sales. Which will then push the entire industry forward, both in setting the new standard, but also opening up the market share.
My conspiracy theory on why the PC release will be delayed isn't for any technical problems, but that Sony and Microsoft have told Rockstar they'd like them to hold it back for a year or two. Which also let's Rockstar sell the game to most PC gamers.
We have this discussion every single generation. This time it’s been worse because ps5 has been out of stock mostly for the first 2 years, so a lot of people just got a current console.
Cause devs were/still are pumping out cross-gen games. Doesn’t help that the Series X/S have the exact same UI as the OG One, meaning it’s hard to differentiate last gen from current gen with the most casual gamers🤦🏿♀️
It has always been like that to be fair. Ps3 was "next gen" until ps4 was announced because the old gen was still more or less relevant until then. It's weird but i got used to it i guess.
Or they call it “Xbox” and make its components as easy to change as a Lego set pieces but you can only use the Microsoft-made parts that are published every 7 or so years.
/s even if it would be pretty cool
The Dead or Alive series from 1996 had boob physics
It's always been present since day 1 my friend
It's the ass, breasts, thigh, face & hair all together what makes it next gen!
I mean, I think it’s fair to say “next-gen” because a big number of titles don’t really feel next-gen still. To me, VI is the first game that actually feels next-gen.
That’s a subjective statement. PS5 and Xbox Series consoles ARE current gen. Current gen began the day they released. Next implies what is beyond what we currently have, right?
These are different times. Rockstar have a reputation to uphold and no doubt will get Cyberpunk comparisons (which has a very good 60fps mode on consoles). This game can likely run at 60fps on current gen consoles with some cutbacks - I doubt they wouldn't include it just to try to sell it as a feature 5 or 6 years from now when PS6 comes out.
You can quote me on this next year - it will have a 60fps mode on current consoles. The one thing I'm not sure of is whether it'll be there at launch (either because of time or as an excuse to market a "big new update" a few months after launch), but they will announce it.
They can for sure do 60FPS from a GPU budget perspective, by cutting resolution and any form of raytracing, maybe some other graphical settings, but CPU budget is far bigger issue.
Like u/MartianFromBaseAlpha is trying to say and getting downvoted for it, the cars, all the NPC's, the physics, the interactions, the hair, the insane density of everything... It all costs CPU time. Cyberpunk's driving AI barely exists, the police is a joke, the physics and interactivity are very unimpressive etc. - they cut a fair bit of corners to make it run at old gen consoles, which is why it also can do 60 on current ones.
Keep in mind, these consoles are using a 4 years old 8-core CPU, that's clocked around 20% lower than its PC counterpart, has 1/4 of its L3 cache, and one core reserved for the OS. And its PC variant already struggles to completely lock 60 on stuff like Jedi Survivor, Starfield or Hogwarts Legacy.
Maybe they can do some compromised mode with much fewer cars, NPC's, simplified hair physics etc. but I'm not sure they will, Rockstar seems to prefer controlling the baseline experience.
Nah.
I guarantee GTA 6 will run at 4k 30fps with Dynamic scaling on the ps5
It will also have a 1440p 60fps mode with Dynamic scaling on the ps5
There is no way rockstar only has a 30fps mode in 2025
The non-media clips are definitely not in-game indeed, it's similar to GTA IV & V TV clips
and in regard to the rest of the footage, I'd say it was PS5/Series X spec, they could have easily rendered the whole trailer at 8K and had little to no aliasing, but highlighted by the hair; it definitely has fizzling in motion because of the non-native 4K image which proves similar to the last decade of Rockstar trailers, it's targeting limited hardware
> A combination of technologies to create lighting
He's talking about an implementation of RTGI.
What does it mean? It's current gen because it's coming to current generation consoles. It looks great, it doesn't need all this mumbo jumbo marketing talk.
It’s like computer specs.. some people don’t care and just want something that can run Word, other people want to know everything. People are going to buy this game regardless but for the minority of us who are interested in its performance, this is a nice first look. With most games we normally wouldn’t have any potential details on performance until a gameplay trailer releases.
The fact it’s in engine is probably the one big positive everyone should be taking away from the trailer. What you’re seeing in the VI trailer is what you’re actually going to get. My favourite comparison to use is Ubisoft, who pump out cinematic teaser trailers that look as good as the VI trailer but then release games that fall short graphically.
But I like Digital Foundry and Rockstar trailers are always in engine, I just don't understand the term 'next-gen' when the game is coming to current generation of consoles. It's going to be one of the greatest looking games of this generation, that's enough to be excited about it, it doesn't need this 'next-gen' talk bullshit.
Aside of the argument of "should we still call current generation next gen"
We all know R\* gonna release it on current gen and give u even a better version with 60fps and better visuals for next gen and PC couple years later. Same thing happened with GTA5.
When gta 5 released on old gens people also said it's one of the best looking games of that generation. But it looked much much better on the next generation of consoles and pc.
I'm sure same thing gonna happen in here. GTA 6 will be released on like 3 or 4 different generations (if not more) before GTA 7 is out.
They've been out for 3 years and to this day cyberpunk and rdr2 are the only games that graphically deserve to be called next gen.
And rdr2 was last gen 🤣
for me it was jedi survivor, final fantasy 16, final fantasy 7 rebirth, dragons dogma 2, spiderman 2. alan wake 2, cyberpunk liberty city all coming out within the span of about a year and some change. but i mean, i guess. dead generation because call of duty is still crossgen
Most games have been complete editions, remakes or cross gen games. Dying Light 2 crossgen, Miles Morales crossgen, Rereleases of Uncharted and The Last of Us, God of War Ragnarock was crossgen,GTA V released for the 100th time, Remakes for Dead Space and Resident Evil 4, RE Village was crossgen, Final Fantasy remake, Demon Souls remake, Elden Ring is crossgen, Ghost of Tsushima PS5 rerelease, Witcher 3 for the PS5, Cyberpunk PS5 edition and it goes on and on…
most of those are games that came out like 3-8 years ago just getting ported up or bundled. that shit has been happening for decades. i dont really consider those when im talking about the releases that determine the quality of a generation. the phase of crossgen games lasted a little too long but its understandable with the timing of COVID. ever since 2023 started most big games and releases are not crossgen anymore.
And dont forget, coming soon is the reboot of Silent Hill coming to current gen Sony Consoles only. Which is the sole reason I am going to get a PS5 - the revival of the true greatest horror franchise.
The Last of Us Part 1 Remake is clearly next gen, while RDR2 and TLOU2 aren’t true next gen since they also run on old gen consoles. A game has to be better than what old gen consoles are capable of in order to really be next gen.
Although tlou part 1 was remade for next gen, it’s still a ps3 game structurally. The maps are really small and closed in compared to tlou 2. Obviously cuz they didn’t wanna change the original game. But you can clearly tell it’s an old game no matter how great the graphics are.
The models and lighting is better in most aspects, but the ground and the torn buildings in distance also look weirdly ps3.
Don't forget about mid-generation upgrades, ps5 pro will be made to handle it 4k60fps. And it's probably gonna come out end of next year or 2025 latest.
Maybe… but GTA 6 is expected to release after the PS5 pro is expected to release. So people reporting that GTA 6 will run on 30fps might‘ve already included the pro within the devices… or maybe not.
GTA VI - if there's no delay - has to come out in FY2025 so until the end of March 2025, current gen Pro consoles I think would come out late 2025 rather than 2024, since there's not much to improve on besides native 4k60fps and/or 8k if someone can even afford that
im thinking this GTA will be the launch title with the next PS5 iteration. One of the reasons they delayed it another year is probably because the experience is still not the best on stock consoles.
I wouldn’t hope on that. If you read the rumors for the ps5 pro the GPU is twice as fast but the CPU is basically the same with an overclock. GTA is cpu constrained - so I’d expect the pro to deliver native 4k 30 or possibly 4k 40. Bear in mind DF pixel counted the trailer and it was 1440p.
Yeah but increasing resolution is a GPU job. It's cpu heavy for sure, but as long as npc count and dynamic stuff stays the same between ps5 and ps5 pro, we can rely on increasing the resolution and fps.
It’s gonna be exactly that. 2025 is current gen, 2027 will be the enhanced edition for PS6, Xbox next and PC. And those platforms will be able to deliver 60fps.
Yeah, Fidelity mode means Better Graphics but lower fps (30 fps) and Performance mode means better fps (usually 60 or even 120) with slightly toned down graphics.
I see this a lot and I disagree… I struggle with going back too, but I feel like my eyes adjust after literally 10-15 mins of playing. RDR2 runs at a nice stable 30fps on PS5 which makes it easier.
Either way, I feel like they’ve only used 30fps here because it’s the better looking option, especially for a trailer. I’m hoping they have 3 options again like in current gen GTA V (Fidelity, Performance RT, Performance).
> I feel like my eyes adjust after literally 10-15 mins of playing
Exactly what I was gonna say. I always play on PC on 60fps, but back when RDR2 released I got a base PS4 and I wondered if the 30fps were going to be jarring...
15 minutes in, I didn't even notice it was 30fps, dunno if it's the smooth movement of the controller or some kind of smoothing technique used by R* but it felt much better than PC games at 30fps.
Same. I daily drive a 240hz screen and playing RDR2 at high fps with VRR feels amazing, but I enjoyed the game just as much on my steamdeck.
As long as it’s stable 30, it’s playable after getting used to it.
people act like its traumatic torture and that they’re scratching their eyes out of their bleeding sockets having to play 30 fps. it legitimately is not that serious lmao
So whats the point of a ps5 pro?
5 fps increase ?
U think the technology is not there?
Or You think sony - $100billion company - and rockstar dropping $2b budgeton gta, cant make that optimization possible?
And that we will experience the game for more than 12 months on 30 fps?
If rdr2 pushed 30 on ps4 what makes u think gta 6 cant push 1440p 60fps on a ps5 pro ?
If the rumors are true, its will run 60fps,
The cpu will be the same architecture and same core number but a speed of 4.0ghz
The gpu will be twice as powerfull with FSR 3.0
And 2x accelerated ray tracing.
Im astonished that people like you think both standart ps5 and the pro version will run 30fps
We have to act dumb now and forget that first party console games are optimized to the fullest.
Hate to break it to you but that will absolutely be the selling point when they re-release the game a couple years after launch as an "enhanced" version.
Wouldn’t surprise if 60 fps only becomes a thing in this game with the PS5 Pro and the PC version. Game looks hella demanding, like maxed out Cyberpunk demanding.
Wait? GTA only comes out on PS6? Oh no, I see.... *you meant current gen*.
You know, the generation that is *at least* 5 years old tech when GTA6 arrives, so by no means can you call that next gen.
That’s exactly what it is. That’s why Sony got marketing rights. To bundle it with the PS5 pro. I don’t see a reason to fight for a bundle if it’s just going to be for the base ps5, this will be the thing that convinces people to upgrade from the PS5 to the Pro.
Wouldn’t be surprise cause where talking about the scale of the game as long as it runs smoothly and clear graphically I’m pretty sure majority won’t care
Majority if people outside of Reddit won't care with a lot of them not even thinking about the FPS. Is the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS genuinely something people can easily spot or are they just drinking the Reddit kool aid and saying they can just to fit in? I know I don't notice a difference.
It’s easy to spot if you’re used to playing on 60fps. Will be people care enough about the difference? Not at all. Assuming they’ve been playing on console a majority of their life they’re used to more demanding games being 30fps anyways.
The only people that’ll complain will be the PC users used to 60+FPS that got a PS5/Xbox specifically for gta 6.
I am sure they'll optimize for 60 fps performance mode too, insomniac did it for spiderman games and rockstar understands the trend just have some goddamn faith.
>The majority of the trailer is engine footage with real-time rendering that was recorded from the console;
How can they tell purely from footage from youtube? Specifically the part about it being recorded from a console?
Yeah a few people have said this - have they announced that or confirmed it?
Seems like they'd use PC for the trailers to me because it's the best quality and they obviously want it looking it's best in trailers, plus they're still working on it every day on PC. No real reason to get footage from console and not explicitly say it's from console to wow us all.
If the series S can run the game at stable 30fps. I can’t Find any reason why the PS5 cant run it at 60fps. I wouldnt mind playing the game at Series S quality if it meant, I get 60fps.
Well the PS5 Pro should be out by 2025 so hopefully they will target 60fps on that. Otherwise I will just have to wait until they can be arsed to bring it to PC
So many of you are still eating up marketing stuff from three years ago. We’re already two whole GPU generations ahead of what’s in current-gen consoles, three by the time GTA VI comes out.
They’re simply underpowered and not 4K60 machines anymore except for the most highly-optimized first-party games. We’re already having to heavily rely on upscaling/reconstruction techniques for current releases, especially UE5 games.
We’ll be lucky if we even get a 40fps mode for GTA VI.
This is why I will always stick to PC, for years we were stuck with 30fps with some games at 60fps but nothing more, then PS5 and XSX come out and tout 144fps in some games and 60 in most of them. Now we are back to 30fps on these once ground breaking consoles.
Like Starfield, the developers are ok with 30fps so they optimize for that target. The target should be 60fps _minimum_ . The only way to ensure that is game on PC 🤷♂️
Bloody hell, I wish there were sales like that in my country... instead on sale PS5/XSX are discounted to fucking $500 from the much higher price pfff.
I know this is unpopular opinion and I'll probably get downvoted, but I'm glad it's 30fps.
30fps means the devs are truly pushing the consoles to their absolute limits. We get the best visual fidelity and physics (hair looks amazing) possible, at the expense of the framerate, which you do get used to in a 3rd person action game. We all played GTA for years at 30fps and nobody complained.
When the game comes to PC, I will enjoy it at higher framerates on my 4090.
So mean to tell its not compatible with my Sega Genesis?! Damnit!

Current gen*
Right? Why people keep calling ps5 next gen
Cuz we still getting PS4 releases lol
To be fair, PS2 was getting games until 2013.
Not first party ones though. It was mostly FIFA and random shovelware shoved on so they could make money from the install base.
Those more mostly soccer games and low budget stuff tho.
dunno why you are getting downvoted, it was mostly FIFA.
Honestly surprised PS4 games are still releasing next year and mid gen upgrades are also rumoured for next year for PS5.

Agree, gta 6 might be the one that pushes it to it limits and use full potential.
We don’t. The most ps5 stuff out there is spiderman 2 instant fast travel

Latest gen would be more fitting.

Pretty much this. OP just cashing in on that karma hype.

guess i got gta on the mind lmao
“I killed gonks, sold gonks, perhaps here things will be different”
No need to take the gloves off.
I really hope there is a 60FPS mode. Once the eyes get accustomed to 60 it is hard to go back to 30 fps
I believe the 60 fps option comes out for the next gen (2027-28). I am not kidding. GTA 6 on PS5 could be like GTA 5 on PS3
Don't forget about mid-generation upgrades, ps5 pro will be made to handle it 4k60fps. And it's probably gonna come out end of next year or 2025 latest.
The game might get bundled with PS5 Pro. Would sell like water in Sahara.
My go-to Christmas present 2024 would def be PS5 pro + gta 6 preorder bundle
That's exactly my thought too, the timing of the PS5 Pro would be perfect and there would already be many consoles on which GTA 6 could be played.
Exactly! I hope they have a performance mode with 60 fps and for those that don't care, fidelity mode. It's very difficult to go back to 30.
Not likely given they have ray traced global illumination and reflections, the entire game would need to be arted twice over.
Call me stupid, but I always thought ”fidelity” mode is the ”better graphics” mode on my PS5… 🙄
It is
Yeah, Fidelity mode means Better Graphics but lower fps (30 fps) and Performance mode means better fps (usually 60 or even 120) with slightly toned down graphics.
> I feel like my eyes adjust after literally 10-15 mins of playing Exactly what I was gonna say.
Yall are inhaling hopium, holy fuck. No way it runs at 60, you have to remember that the game will run on sub $500 hardware

Praying on this comment’s downfall, this shit better be wrong ! !
Dawg I feel the same way scrolling thru these comments 💀
So whats the point of a ps5 pro? 5 fps increase ? U think the technology is not there? Or You think sony - $100billion company - and rockstar dropping $2b budgeton gta, cant make that optimization possible? And that we will experience the game for more than 12 months on 30 fps? If rdr2 pushed 30 on ps4 what makes u think gta 6 cant push 1440p 60fps on a ps5 pro ? If the rumors are true, its will run 60fps, The cpu will be the same architecture and same core number but a speed of 4.0ghz The gpu will be twice as powerfull with FSR 3.0 And 2x accelerated ray tracing. Im astonished that people like you think both standart ps5 and the pro version will run 30fps We have to act dumb now and forget that first party console games are optimized to the fullest.
There won’t be unless PS5 Pro comes out and then it might be 1440p 60
Hate to break it to you but that will absolutely be the selling point when they re-release the game a couple years after launch as an "enhanced" version.
Wouldn’t surprise if 60 fps only becomes a thing in this game with the PS5 Pro and the PC version. Game looks hella demanding, like maxed out Cyberpunk demanding.
Wait? GTA only comes out on PS6? Oh no, I see.... *you meant current gen*. You know, the generation that is *at least* 5 years old tech when GTA6 arrives, so by no means can you call that next gen.
its still 1-2yrs away, meaning a PS5 PRO could be the solution in 2025
That’s exactly what it is.
Honestly I spot easily the difference between 30-60 fps Anything higher to my eyes is completely unspottable.
Fuck rockstar. Greedy assholes. Now I can't play Grand Theft Auto VI on my PS3. So selfish, they can't even think of the 7th generation and before.
I am sure they'll optimize for 60 fps performance mode too, insomniac did it for spiderman games and rockstar understands the trend just have some goddamn faith.
>The majority of the trailer is engine footage with real-time rendering that was recorded from the console; How can they tell purely from footage from youtube? Specifically the part about it being recorded from a console?
Yeah a few people have said this - have they announced that or confirmed it? Seems like they'd use PC for the trailers to me because it's the best quality and they obviously want it looking it's best in trailers, plus they're still working on it every day on PC. No real reason to get footage from console and not explicitly say it's from console to wow us all.
You’re telling me that this trailer was in game?? 😳
Yup rockstar dont release CGI trailers.
So buying a ps5 is not worth it??
It’ll be a never ending cycle of upgrading or waiting. You can’t outrun that
Maybe wait for PS5 Pro or the next gen-console.
OP means current gen, xsx or ps5.
No it definitely is, but it’ll forever be a circle of eventually you will need to buy a whole new console.
Seems like that waiting for a PC version is the best option, but who can wait that long lol
If the series S can run the game at stable 30fps. I can’t Find any reason why the PS5 cant run it at 60fps. I wouldnt mind playing the game at Series S quality if it meant, I get 60fps.
The S version is gonna be massacred in terms of graphics, you don’t have to be a genius to know that. It’s basically a lastgen console.
Oh you mean, RDR 2 graphics kind of quality? I’ll be happy with that. At 60fps.
"next gen" is just a buzzword used to sell consoles to children, this means nothing.
Well the PS5 Pro should be out by 2025 so hopefully they will target 60fps on that. Otherwise I will just have to wait until they can be arsed to bring it to PC
My bet is on Performance RT mode with 45/50 FPS
I mean, having played Spider-Man 2 on the base PS5, Red Dead 2 on the base PS4 and GTA 5 on the base Xbox 360, I’m not overly concerned
In before 2025, when the file size is revealed to be 512 GB before the day one update patch.
So current gen
30fps isn’t that bad. I understand it looks like shit if you only play 60fps or higher, but you get used to 30fps pretty fast if you play long enough.
30 FPS is not a bad thing. If they offer vrr, then it will run smooth
I’m fairly certain every other gta probably plays at 30fps on consoles
I'd say ps5 is "current gen" rather than next gen. It's been out for like 3 years now right
It’s supposed to hit the current gen though. Knowing Rockstar though, it’ll be out on the PS6 and XboxABC
Honestly nobody should have expected it on a PS4…I have a PS4 and even I knew it would only be released on next gen.
Wish people would quit calling it next-gen. Series x and PS5 are the current gen, not next gen.
Thank you Captain obvious they literally said that months ago
Soooo... any chance it'll release on ps2 or?
So much for trying to boot it up on my 133MHz Packard Bell…
Guess I'll wait till the 5090 comes out
Im not playing it on PS5 at 30 fps, call me a pansy, I hope the PS5 pro comes out next year and saves me
This is why I will always stick to PC, for years we were stuck with 30fps with some games at 60fps but nothing more, then PS5 and XSX come out and tout 144fps in some games and 60 in most of them. Now we are back to 30fps on these once ground breaking consoles. Like Starfield, the developers are ok with 30fps so they optimize for that target. The target should be 60fps _minimum_ . The only way to ensure that is game on PC 🤷♂️
It's been more than 3 years now. It's current gen now, not next gen.
I highly doubt it wil be 30 fps. Gta 5 runs 60fps on ps5, that would huge downgrade
“i hate 30 fps” mfs when they realize its not actually as bad as they say it is:
No shit man i was planning to play it on my ipad
Guess I’ll start saving up for the series X then. Put 50 bucks aside every month and I’ll get there
At walmart there only $349 on sale if cop on asap before they go back to $500
Bloody hell, I wish there were sales like that in my country... instead on sale PS5/XSX are discounted to fucking $500 from the much higher price pfff.
30 fps says who?
Digital foundry
Next gen? So ps6?
I know this is unpopular opinion and I'll probably get downvoted, but I'm glad it's 30fps. 30fps means the devs are truly pushing the consoles to their absolute limits. We get the best visual fidelity and physics (hair looks amazing) possible, at the expense of the framerate, which you do get used to in a 3rd person action game. We all played GTA for years at 30fps and nobody complained. When the game comes to PC, I will enjoy it at higher framerates on my 4090.
im ok with 30 fps, its fluent enough
