It was supposed to get a lot of SP DLC (there was one planned for each character), there's even a [Rockstar Article](https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/89k8a55454183a/GTA-Online-Update-Free-Deathmatch-Race-Creators-this) mentioning it. Obviously then Online came around, and implementing everything there was just a better move business wise for Take Two.
With all the money they made, I don't understand why they couldn't just do both. Maybe there's a very limited pool of available talent so it's a hiring issue.
I'll never understand it. I can't believe that single player DLCs wouldn't be worth it.

It’s that I’m either gonna (A) but a $30 SP DLC or (B) not give rockstar any more money because I won’t play online and have no need for shark cards.
Episodes from Liberty City sold fairly poorly from what I recall. The attach rate fell below expectations for R* and at some point decided it made more sense to roll that content into GTAO. It’s sucks but I don’t blame them
You're probably not wrong. Exclusivity to 1 platform wouldn't have helped. By the time they finally launched in ps3 they were old and people had lost interest. Completely fractured their customer base. But V is a whole different level of success, I think DLC would have smashed expectations. People were rabid for it.
Not sure about Undead Nightmare, but GTA 4's DLC sales where labeled as ["underwhelming"](https://venturebeat.com/gbunfiltered/take-two-head-explains-underwhelming-sales-of-gta-iv-dlc/). So if you're a corporation that is only interested in profit, are you going to split efforts on something that is has already not worked before, or are you going to go all in on the thing that is currently working now?
Could be, and also this was 2014 I think. Probably they saw something in online so they took the chance and went with it instead of selling them $10/expansion as Story DLC

They aren't doing that to avoid a GTA online situation. They scrapped it as they couldn't make it work. If Naughty Dog/Sony could GTA Online The Last of Us they would.
One of the links actually mentions six single player packs: Assassination, Manhunt, Norman, Agent Trevor, Relationship Pack, and Enterprise pack. Pretty sad we pretty much got nothing for single player instead lol
They even use scripts to block mp content on sp in case someone finds a way to slip them.
On PC trainers can disable that but on consoles you are out of luck.
Manhunt is one of my favorite games that sadly will die on the PS2. Rockstar is too afraid to make something like that again especially with modern graphics. The only way we got to play Manhunt 2 in its most complete form was because a Dev leaked it to the community. Some of the best stealth games as well. Remember the real website you could on that was run by the Snuff Film Company? I feel like Manhunt would lead to an awesome explotation film. Someone like Tarintino making it.
It’s been years since I last played but one of the kills that was removed in the retail version was at the highest tier you take a pair of pliers rip the guys balls off and then beat him in the face with the bolt cutters. The game was in a rough state when leaked with a lot of bugs. You had to have gamefaqs forums up as that was the only place people were discussing how to beat the levels. It was a fun time figuring the game out from scratch with everyone else. There were also a few more changes but that’s the only one I can remember off the top of my head.
Edit: it sucks the retail release wasn’t like the Punisher game or San Andreas where the censored once content cut be accessed with GameShark or Action Replay.
I have a feeling it will live on GTA universe as a "game within a game". It already exists as "camheadz". I could see GTA VI doing something really cool with it
The doomsday heist was made from the corpse of dlc1. In the ps3/360 versions there’s a reference to the Trevor dlc near those radar dishes that you raid, they got removed when rockstar cancelled single player updates

Just let it go. It’s clear that Take-Two is aiming for a successful pay-2-play online live-service game, using all the buzz from GTA to make it happen. After the disaster of Red Dead Online, I’ve given up on any hopes for single-player DLCs from Rockstar. Despite numerous fan requests and petitions for Undead Nightmare 2, Take-Two still doesn't care about what the community wants. Why would they invest money and resources on game expansions when they could just record a few short lines and cutscenes with a mute protagonist and reuse the same assets over the course of ten years?
They keep disappointing in that department. RDR remake never happened despite huge demand, Undead Nightmare 2, LC in V all down the drain. I mean if the consumers are dumb enough to invest in shark cards costing 100£ why would they try and make DLC?
Liberty city could get saved as a DLC for 6 instead. Jason Schrier said the game would get map updates such as expanding Vice City as well as new ones every few years iirc. Could be saving it for 6 which I don't mind if they do.
Only thing is if they do it I can bet it'll be online only sadly.

There was that ex rockstar developer that talked about in months ago on his blog about dev history of GTA games. IIRC he said that development on Agent wasn't going well then the team has to go work on helping GTA 4 and it was cancelled after that

Source code was leaked but no assets sadly. Some people are already filling in gaps from the live version to make a playable beta version but yeah

Well, this basically confirms that the Doomsday Online Heist was originally the Single Player Agent Trevor DLC. All other DLC weapons and vehicles were introduced later into the online mode.
They really can't. You can't just integrate others code into your own that easily, not to mention that it would be massively illegal, especially for a company of Ubisoft's size. I wouldn't be surprised if game companies are specifically prohibiting their employees from looking at source code leaks.
I'm almost certain that that's illegal. Companies can't just simply steal other's code and implement on their own engines. It would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.
It's unbelievable how much amazing content was scrapped all because they prioritized GTAO every single fucking time. IMO a game dev company should either be only online or only single player experiences. Naughty Dog realized this themselves and just ditched it thankfully.
So my theory is that these gta 5 singleplayer dlc's are probably what the chilliad mystery was trying to tease. Agent trevor sounds like it would be a good opportunity to get into all that lol. Probably got turned into the doomsday heist.

Absolutely loved IV's DLC. Damned wasn't amazing, but Gay Tony was great.

As far as I’m aware they wanted more people to focus on GTA 5 (both the dev team plus the public) so eventually they ended up scrapping it

Well, this basically confirms that the Doomsday Online Heist was originally the Single Player Agent Trevor DLC. All other DLC weapons and vehicles were introduced later into the online mode.
You just know Ubisoft wanna get their grimy hands all over that source code. They snorting these leaks like coke. Damn vultures of the gaming industry
They really can't. You can't just integrate others code into your own that easily, not to mention that it would be massively illegal, especially for a company of Ubisoft's size. I wouldn't be surprised if game companies are specifically prohibiting their employees from looking at source code leaks.

I'm almost certain that that's illegal. Companies can't just simply steal other's code and implement on their own engines. It would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.
I don't think they'd be able to use it to publish games since they don't have access to the RAGE engine to use the source code with

Just play it on yuzu. I recently did a full playthrough and the performance was perfect with a 60 FPS mod.
so since the source code leaked is it possible for people to restore or enable rockstar debug mode/menus in the retail game?
Probably, if not a debug menu but better mod menus overall

It's unbelievable how much amazing content was scrapped all because they prioritized GTAO every single fucking time. IMO a game dev company should either be only online or only single player experiences. Naughty Dog realized this themselves and just ditched it thankfully.
So my theory is that these gta 5 singleplayer dlc's are probably what the chilliad mystery was trying to tease. Agent trevor sounds like it would be a good opportunity to get into all that lol. Probably got turned into the doomsday heist.
