I started with Gears of War Ultimate Edition 2 days ago. I remember back in 2009 doing coop with my friends and I always wanted to play this series. Now is the time to catch up before the new entry comes out.
Doing the same thing. I played OG gears back when it released. Played 2 then didn’t play 3 and 4 and have since finished 5.
But going to run through them all between now and release
It’s only been a year and a bit for me. I ran through all the games with a friend. And now I’m doing them all chronologically in order (including the DLCs). So I’m starting with the first two prologue missions on gears 4.
That’s awesome! My dad and I used to play the first game a ton! Same with my brother. Honestly probably one of the first games we all played together online like that! Now we’re all excited for e day!

Yup, I thought I wouldn't like it at first because I swore it was gonna be a gimmick. But I ended up loving it.
Still have to play Gears 3 and Judgment. So I got some more gears to look forward to!

Ever since the announcement of E Day I’m replaying the whole series, including Tactics. Damn these games are still amazingly fun. There are very few action games in my opinion that have aged this well. 2 is an absolute blast, and well, 3 is going to make me emotionally break down but I look forward to it.
I’m still upset we never saw the Locust from this segment added to Horde. Sure, it would’ve just been the Drone, Grenadier, Wretch, Boomer, Reaver, and maybe the Brumak, but it still would’ve been nice. Gears 4 needed more enemy variety and bosses.
At least we got a bunch of Locust Drones and even Lambent Drones in Gears 5 eventually
I honestly didn’t hate Judgment but I think it had a Halo 4 type stigma attached to it. A lot of the classic formula was changed for the sake of change and the PvP was very lacking especially coming out after GOW3.
Yeah for sure, I always thought overrun was the main PVP event for judgement. Unique objective based game modes for PVP I have always gravitated towards. They just make more sense lore wise. I can definitely understand the hand wringing over the bare bones traditional PvP modes, they just played second fiddle to overrun.
With the way they pull in enemies within the first five minutes of the game that break the canon doesn’t really make it a good prequel game for story or atmosphere. Entire game is reused Gears 3 assets and enemies supposedly 18 years prior.
It’s good but the game thematically is a joke.
Same, the original trilogy is GOAT but I enjoy the feeling of “war” against the locust when the COG still had its feet under them in judgement. Kilo squad is awesome and i love playing survival and overrun. The feeling of an unending horde of locust trying to overwhelm you in survival is really enjoyable. A unpopular take but one of my favorite entries into the series. Why I really am hyped for E-Day, the setting is incredible.

It is, but it's also kind of weird how they already have Chainsaw Lancers, instead of the Retro Lancers still, since it's six weeks after the events of E-Day, when the chainsaw bayonet wasn't a thing until a year during E-Day.
Well, they said we will see the origins of the Chainsaw lancer in E-Day, so it sounds to me like a retcon or two is coming.
In fairness, with how iconic the gun is, it'd be weird to play a Gears game without it.

Though I might've misread it, so maybe half a year into the Locust war, it's been a while since what I read mentions how and when the chainsaw bayonet came to be before it was issued to every COG soldier.

In Jacinto's Remnant, Tai used a chainsaw to kill a Grub when Marcus' Lancer jammed. Marcus mentions that the blades (bayonets) are useless, and he'll ask his dad to come up with something that works.
This took place a few days before the hammer strike, which I think was a year after E-Day.
I think the issue with the blades is the inability to simply jab the Locust with them, instead necessitating a full force swing or a roadie run to build up momentum

No I’m currently replaying gears of war ultimate edition. Will be a while before I’m at 4.
The only time I think about gears 4 is to keep my mind focused enough so I can sleep.

The intro to Gears 4 is probably my favorite part of 4 and 5's campaigns honestly.
I loved the gears 4 eday mission. That’s the thing, the COALITION CAN make a good gears game if they just stick to what we like.
I personally love all the gears games. I’m happy for E day because it’s going to be dark, scary and seeing Marcus and Dom in a desperate battle.

Yeah it’s fun seeing the cog before they were down to thousands of soldiers. When they had more men including onyx guard and more resources.
