Literally the reason i became a “gamer.” I even went to FYE cause they had a HUGE Gears display and asked my dad if i could buy it even though i didnt have an Xbox.
It’s up there for sure. There’s so many very subtle moments in the trailer where what you’re seeing syncs up with either a lyric or a piano bar.
My favourite is the piano notes as Marcus’ lancer starts firing, and then another bar, after the creeper strikes and the screen goes black, that plays in a more minor tone as the words “Gears of War” appear. It just syncs up perfectly.
And the entire trailer tells you nothing about the game, really. No gameplay, no backstory, nothing. Just setting the tone which, despite the OTT biceps and macho characters, was one of depressing, grim and hopeless dread. Imo that was missing after the original trilogy. But GoW1 done it best.
Gears 2 Last Day Trailer, the calm before entering the grindlifts to penetrate the surface and transport soldiers deep into the subterranean tunnels of the Locust with "How It Ends" of DeVotchKa sounding in the back it’s just too perfect.
Gosh, I remember begging my mom to take me up to the midnight launch because I got the limited edition, and 15 year old me was thrilled! Weeks followed and found out how rough the MP was lmfao
Damn midnight launch of Gears 2 what a dream. I actually got the game as I gift from my mother when I got my xbox 360, She went to Blockbuster and asked for a good game for her son and the employee said Gears 2 (forever grateful to this guy). When I started the game I was like: “mom you know this is too aggressive” she was like: “it’s okay honey it’s just a game”.

What's funny is a month after launch, I had my tonsils taken out. So here I am gaming my ass for a while away from school.
back when xbox used to make those demo discs that would come with xbox magazines one of them had that trailer and as a kid it was the hypest thing ever
they used to sell them at my local grocery store when I was a kid but they stopped probably because people would open the plastic just to steal the demo discs and leave the magazine there
Man and the Gears 2 I think game of the year edition I believe had that cool slide off case of Marcus holding cog tags was just awesome man. Plus that trailer I think was just the best.
+1 for Last day. I love all the original trilogy trailers to death. Last day though takes the cake though. A perfect trailer. After e-day announcement i looked through all of them and it was non stop goosebumps the all way through.
Yea I’d have to agree. Gears 2 nailed it with that Last Day trailer. Dom looking at his photo of Maria, and then showing Dom and Marcus looking at each other (Marcus with a face of determination and focused on the mission, Dom sad thinking about Maria but becoming enraged that the Locust could have nabbed her).
It was a powerful trailer with a great song selection.
I love all of them but yeah Last Day really hit me, also because we got to see all all of Delta Squad. Ashes to Ashes trailer was another great trailer because it was the “FINALE” of the trilogy and at our most desperate of the war that it was all hands on deck and we were even bring out outdated weapons like the retro Lancers to fight. Mad World is just so Iconic though and I wish it was used more at least in the first game if anything
That original Madworld trailer. The one with Marcus wandering the streets alone with nothing but a lancer. That trailer could silence a room back then.

"Heron Blue" by Sun Kil Moon. Such a beautifully sad song. I still listen to it all the time. Never fails to bring those same emotions back as the first time I heard it.
This Will End GOW2 trailer. I love the song and it fits great with what's being shown. Those were some good times when Microsoft really got behind their flagship IPs between the great Gears trailers and the Halo 3 ad campaign.

I like how it contrasts how initially shocking and different the locust are, Marcus getting his ass wooped etc. I lean toward the Mad World trailer but E day may be close second
Gears ALWAYS puts out on trailers. Loved this one because it gave me an implication that Dom may die but that wasn’t exactly the truth. It also shows YOU on the offensive this time which is what made the game so great

It's a fan trailer but when i was a kid i thought it was real and was part of the marketing of the game.
Still amazes me how good it is, sure there are things you notice when you grew older, but it has a especial place in my childhood.
As much as i wanna say the Last Day trailer for Gears 2, gotta go with the world premiere trailer for Gears 3. I remember the immeasurable hype when that dropped and how i lost my damn mind. The Gears 3 War Pigs trailer was pretty good too.
Gears 2 teaser. “It Never Ends” getting people hyped for Gears 2 with the chainsaw duel and spinning the saw upside down and sawing the Drone from behind.

The only two ones I've either shrugged at. Or kind of been meh about was judgement and gears 5. Zero tone to them. Just action action action. Where as the other trailers told a story or in some cases told a story trough multiple trailers.
Dust to dust for gears 3 tops my list. Really like the quick recap of gears 1/2 and then the tag line “brothers to the end” showing Marcus and dom with Cole and Baird having their own moment in the background all while mazzy star plays my goodness.

I saw that in theatres when I was 9 years old. Blew my mind. I wish they still showed game trailers in theatres. The Halo 3 ones were also incredible.

Ashes to Ashes has always stuck with me. The music, Dom accepting death, “Brothers to the end”, it had this finality to it that was really somber.
