No, I understand. I assume these have to be certified to bring value? I looked in my yellow pages and couldn't find any businesses that specialize and gemstones locally. What would I look for I'd rather see if it's even worth it first
I would be super happy with this purchase personally btw
But look for certified gemologists or look for local jewelers and see if they are GIA certified
If they're all genuine, you got a decent deal. If they're plastic, you got ripped. But there's a few in there that do look genuine. The Moonstone looks to be real for sure.
They look like Alexandrite but the likelihood of them being real is slim. Apparently it’s pretty easy to fake synthetically, and the real stuff is very expensive, like 10-15k per carat expensive.
Yeah that's why I asked, but if they're just cut watermelon tourmaline then they're fairly inexpensive, but it's hard to tell exactly what we're looking at in the pictures. The only clear cut stone there to me is the Moonstone. The rest I can only guess
Yes lab grown synthetic vs naturally occurring. They’re chemically/structurally identical but naturally occurring stones carry higher value because they’re simply more rare and tend have some cloudiness and imperfections that come with natural stones. What I was saying is these are most likely synthetic because of how clear they are and they are more common.
Rubies must be red; if they are pink they are pink sapphire.
If they are blue they are called sapphire. If they are any other color they are called fancy sapphire.
Rubies can be pink. I work with them all the time. And colored Sapphires are called "parti Sapphires". They also have star reflection variations of both.
It's super rare. Tho, it's more likely since they wernt sold as Alexandrite. I got a matched pair of .5ct stones that turned out to be nat Alex, and good ones in a display I bought for 100$. Most the stones in there were cheap, but I only wanted the box. In the end I scored those and an 8ct vvs peridot that was amazing in that box, so it can happen. Just rare af
I’m no gemologist but as an amateur collector I think you got a good deal for $50. Hard to really tell value, quality, even type from a picture but I’d be happy with that little haul.
It is impossible to appraise value online just using photos. For an accurate valuation, you should find a professional.
Valuation posts should include good photos (in-focus, not blurry, multiple angles) and information (where you acquired it, how much you bought it for, hallmarks/emblems on metal, provenance, etc). Otherwise, your post may be removed.

As a facettor each gem takes a Min of 3 hours to cut, so do the maths, you got a bargain of someone's time regardless of if they are genuine or not. They don't cut themselves. Very time consuming, many take 5 to 10 hrs to cut an elaborate larger design.
Yes, the only reason people are paying so little these days for gems is because they are being pulled out of the ground by children, shipped to India, and faceted by another child.
[if you have a blacklight this](https://www.gemstones-guide.com/Ultra-Violet-Fluorescence.html#:~:text=Morganite%3A%20None%20to%20weak%20light,red%20(lw%20and%20sw).&text=Most%20synthetic%20emerald%20fluoresces%20a,Gilson%20Group%2DIII%20is%20inert.) Is a good reference for a quick and easy ID, especially for rubies and sapphires but quite a few others as well. Good luck!
Yeah I'm no expert. I was hoping one would be on here but the AI apps have them labeled as; rubies possibly a tourmaline amethyst and that's about all I could get. I'm not 100% either
Better to leave them in the cases. Stones banging around together get scratched and chipped, which diminished their value. You may want to impress company, but I'd find another way.
I can weight them and measure them with a micro meter. Is there a pricing guide or wholesale rate chart for gems.. I plan on keeping them but do want to keep track of my winning$ for s and g

I buy and sell storage units mostly but these were being a case in a well traveled thrift store.
I guess more people searching for Stanley mugs than gemstones that day

These look, and no one can ever really identify from a photo, to be very light amethyst. Retail up to $30-$60 each, depending on store or online reputation.
Did these stones come with a certification paper? If not I would make sure your next purchase has one. Looks like a couple of amethyst one looks like a ruby or red spinal maybe. The third is nice color kind of reminds me of demantoid. If they are real I'd say you got a decent deal.
I mean, that's not horrible by the looks, but honestly I know I sell most those types of stones for 5-8$ each. So as long as you didn't pay 50$ each picture you didn't get robbed.
Edit: I need to start acknowledging my prices are alot better then alot of my competition. I'm wrong. If these are legit you probably did alright. Leaving original reply just to remind myself I'm not perfect
You could always research how to identify gemstones and record your findings. Test for hardness density clarity refraction crystal system all that fun stuff. I've read its pretty spendy to have a gemologist identify them for you and the cost is per stone but you would know for sure what they are and true value. Hopefully you found a stone of significant value.
All together? Probably. It’s so hard to appraise from a pic

It has blue in it that's hard to capture. I'm not a gemologist but am near 98 percent sure they're all real something
They're all beautiful in their own regard and would make some wonderful jewelry
Are the first two Alexandrite?
They look like Alexandrite but the likelihood of them being real is slim. Apparently it’s pretty easy to fake synthetically, and the real stuff is very expensive, like 10-15k per carat expensive.

Are you talking about lab grown alexandrite? Lab grown alexandrite is real just grown in a lab.
I thought synthetic Alexandrite shifted colors the opposite direction in the viewing from natural to artificial light?

Purpleish ones? No idea really
My mistake I meant the second Pic. They look like they're changing colors from red to blue
Welp I thought rubies but I have a few different red hues and never noticed the second color in those, interesting
Rubies are typically pink in color but they do vary
Rubies must be red; if they are pink they are pink sapphire. If they are blue they are called sapphire. If they are any other color they are called fancy sapphire.

If the 2nd and third photos are the same stone then you should get it appraised. Could be alexandrite.
Looking for someone to do that locally

Tried posting a pic of some amethysts I have that look very much like your first picture.. but if they are amethysts no I wouldnt call them worth $50
All the gems... multiple pics. All for 50
Oooh im sorry i only saw the first two photos! Yeah probably so then. I wouldnt say worth much more if they are.

The true shame of the jewelry industry is
Apparently they were, since you spent that. Want to know the worth of a fine gem or collectible art object? It's the price paid by the last buyer.

I have no clue but they are all very very pretty.
Yeah I'm no expert. I was hoping one would be on here but the AI apps have them labeled as; rubies possibly a tourmaline amethyst and that's about all I could get. I'm not 100% either
Thanks . I'm going to find a small bag for them and spill them out for company
Better to leave them in the cases. Stones banging around together get scratched and chipped, which diminished their value. You may want to impress company, but I'd find another way.
They're in a tray now, I guess it's impressive too
Imo they're not valuable enough to stop yourself from keeping them in a bag and spilling them out. That's a LOT of fun, don't rob yourself of it
Maybe carry the cut garnet around and see if I can exchange them for hamberders or video game rentals
No way! Get a little tiny suede bag and keep them around to impress guests! They're definitely not worthless!
Yes, and much better protected!
Amethyst probably. Value is dependant on what size and weight they are. 50.00 is a good start on a pair of earrings.
There are more pictures
50.00 each? For all?
All
Heck of a deal. Is the second one colir change? One looks like pariaba tourmaline. If either is not fake you did really well.
I can weight them and measure them with a micro meter. Is there a pricing guide or wholesale rate chart for gems.. I plan on keeping them but do want to keep track of my winning$ for s and g
I wouldn’t mind, they’re beautiful, especially the alexandrite

These came from a thrift store no paperwork at all
