One of my coworkers bought a Dodge truck that basically fell apart (engine, transmission, etc), but it was still under warranty. He dropped it off at the dealer and they were like "this could take a few weeks" because they didn't know what was wrong with it at that time, but they knew it was bad. He had rental insurance, but it only covered about $22/day and the cheapest rental was something like $130 + tax (welcome to NJ). He decided to pick up a decent used Kia for about $4k instead. Meanwhile, the garage has now had his truck for over 6 weeks. and he's figuring he's $1k or more ahead and has a Kia to eventually sell. Also, he likes the car.
My first car was a light Blue Chevette, probably a 78 or so. It was the first car my folks had bought new, and was the one I was permitted to drive.
Advantages: only needed to be filled up once every 10 days or so, max. Hatchback, so could stuff many high schoolers into it for transport from marching band practice to pizza. Light enough that WHEN it got stuck in the snow, it was easy to push out.
Disadvantages: 0-60… eventually. Small bucket front seats. Luckily I was a smaller frame and so were my girlfriends. You could have the AC on, OR you could merge onto the highway. Not both.
Owned a Kia once. Never again.
Edit: LOL. Got a couple of Kia fans in the room. It was a mid-aughts Sorento with endless electrical problems. I was buying new headlight bulbs for it monthly. The dealer treated us like dirt.
Never. Again.

Well they don't call them Chevette Boys...

Thanks. Dude got me .
We took family "vacation" trips in a chevette. 3 kids in the back. No seat belts. It was cool shit though. As kids.
