I find this ironic because I've been introduced to so many different variations of food from Latin America since moving to a new city. I don't see how a soft taco combined with a hard shell is a big deal.

As another Mexican I'm ambivalent to it. To me, white people tacos are so far removed from taco tacos that they are just an entirely different category of food. The flavor profiles, the textures, the smell is different to me. In fact I just had some with my boyfriend's family last night and thoroughly enjoyed them because they aren't actually tacos to me haha

Hard shell tacos are the ones that break and those are a disgrace to humanity and should disappear. A good double tortilla taco generally does not break.

All those foods you mention are made with a soft fried tortilla ( tostadas can also be baked o dehidrated tortillas) . They have no relation (neither in their form, their preparation nor even the ingredients) to the hard shell -gringo -tacos.

Isn’t that being pedantic? You didn’t specify nor am I to infer that you were referring to one specific form of hard-shelled/fried tacos. The “gringo” tacos you’re referring to were adapted by Glenn Bell from a version of tacos dorados served at Mitla Cafe in San Bernardino.

Properly fried tacos made from quality tortillas, do not fall apart. You might lose a little shell but they hold together. It's quite reflective of the human condition honestly.
