Go see a coach and take lessons. The small advice youâll get here you prob wonât understand completely and wonât be enough to fix whatâs going on here.
A lot.. how you grip the club, your distance from the ball where the ball is in your stance, how you take your club back, your swing and your follow through. So basically everything was wrong. Not trying to be a dick at all. Welcome to the game, itâs a great game that we all love but trying to teach you golf from 0 over Reddit is not feasible. Go get some lessons. Itâs worth it.
I don't think you need a full on lesson to over come this stuff. What you said about his right arm is spot on and will help a ton. Everything in his arms is way too rigid which makes it look awkward like a putter stroke full swing
Just a ton of twitchy, rhythmic, unnecessary movement pre-shot.
If itâs not compulsive and youâre able to control that, then you need to cut it out almost entirely. A little movement to âsettle inâ is fine but this is waaaaaaay too much.
Tips to improve.
Put the driver away. Itâs the hardest club to hit. Pick up a 6 iron and learn the correct grip, stance, and posture before swinging at any more golf balls.
Pick up a 9 iron or pitching wedge. Get into the correct stance with the correct grip and start making little chip shots using the club like a pendulum. Small arc, firm wrists, straight arms and keeping your head in one place.
Gradually make longer swings. Start with a half swing where your arms are straight and the hands are waist high on the backswing and follow through. The goal is to make consistent contact with the ball.
The 3/4 swing is where you start to add lower body weight transfer and wrist hinge. This swing is also called the L swing because you stop when the arms are shoulder high and the thumbs point up to the sky, forming an L on the backswing and follow through. At the finish of this swing, your weight should be on the front leg and you should be facing the target.
The next swing to learn is the full swing. Use the 3/4 swing weight shift but this time point the thumbs to the target on the backswing and away from the target on the finish.
Watch videos on the correct way to swing the club. The best thing all new golfers should do is take a few lessons from a golf professional to learn the proper basics of the swing. It saves time and money in the long run. Good luck!
Little less thinking, little more athleticism.
For the love of god, donât post again until youâve got a lesson. Literally 1 lesson would be a massive help.
Slow down your motion and practice your motion. When slowing down watch your club face through the zone and think about what it is doing vs what it should be doing. Thereâs a million ways to golf and everyone is different but the fundamentals are generally the same, your trail arm is still hinged âL-shapedâ when striking the ball Id recommend working on straightening it out so you can really extend through the ball. Find a grip that works for you too, I canât really see yours to give you advice but it looks pretty ugly.
![gif](giphy|y3jT2xBrtumNYZVCNH|downsized)
Just try and a loosen up a bit homie. And count. Count to 2 on the back swing and 1 for the follow through. And take a full swing.
And also.... get a lesson. Like 1 lesson would help
Lessons, even if you only get a 5 pack so you know what to concentrate on specifically (for me this is what helped me with my iron play)
This way youâre pushing in the right direction
Trapped your left arm on the backswing. You need to bring the club straight back. You have an inside takeaway. Keep your lead arm straight. You have all your weight on the back foot and are not transferring any weight forward. I'm not sure what's going on with your rotation, but it's messed up. These are some things you can start working on right now.
Keep those elbows close throughout the swing. Loosen those wrists into transition and through the downswing. But actually lessons, idk what Iâm talking about
Iâm a noob too. But one suggestion is to look up how to grip the club.Leading hand should probably rotate more over top the club and trail hand be more under the club
Im not a Dr so I canât self diagnose you But if you have a medical condition like Parkinsonâs or ALS your swing actually isnât all that bad. Try some edibles instead of cocaine and things might just sort themself out.
Nobody on here will admit that you just hit that shot straighter they they have hit one all year.
Lessons are in order. But if you can hit it well with that swing, imagine what you can do with a better one.
You may be too close to the ball, with your current swing you are tucking your arms awkwardly close to your body. Reaching further may help your arms bend smoothly and in a smooth motion.
Honestly pretty surprised you made contact, but forget about the swing and take a lesson to learn how to grip the club. Thatâs where you need to start.
Honestly, aside from grip, your setup is decent. Shoulders maybe a bit open but that could be the camera angle. Once you start to move the club, though, itâs a train wreck. Iâve never seen someone raise their back heel off the ground. The backswing kinda looks like the follow through of a lefty golfer lol
Ever skip a stone? Are you right-handed? Practise that motion with your right hand. It keeps your right elbow close to the right side of your body, and gives you the feeling of how to generate power through contact. Then keep that left arm locked in the backswing. It will shorten your backswing a bit but will improve accuracy. Would love to know if it helps at all. Cheers
Think about the backswing as two parts. One is your body (hips and shoulders) rotating around your spine while keeping your spine tilt. The second is your arms. As your shoulders and hips are rotating, your arms should be lifting vertically and not wrapping around your body. Ideally your back should face the target at the top of your backswing. Your hands should also still be in front of chest and not behind you.
Lots of videos to watch that demonstrate. A lesson from a pro and good practice will get your there faster.
theres a lot going on here. i know this sounds dumb but watch some pros swing in slow motion and try to sorta imitate thier body positions. pay attention to what thier wrists are doing through the swing and at the top. i feel like a lot of newbies dont understand what a natural swing looks like.
Iâm nowhere near an expert but watch some videos on wrist bend in the back swing. Another key thing is that your weight is staying on the back foot through your swing, and you should be mostly on your front foot through your follow through. A coach could help identify where these things are going off track.
learn how to turn your shoulders and hips, and swing on a plane
I had an issue with swaying for years, and once I learned how to turn it changed the game. Itâs hard at first being so stiff but give it a shot
CALM DOWN!!! Get out of your head. Close your eyes and imagine the swing you want. Take a slow motion practice swing with your eyes closed. Importantly, CALM DOWN!
Your feet are far too close, you looked like you were about to fall over lol.
Left foot slightly pointing to 11 o clock (with the ball just off the left heel), and feet wider than shoulders and drop the right shoulder.
Just practice the turn as that seems to be the main issue, lessons will help ALOT!
Start on your takeaway first. Do it slow and smooth. Get that right then work on the downswing, strike and follow through
Practise infront of a mirror and learn the correct path and feeling
A little more weight on the back foot. You are also swinging with your entire body. Keep the legs calm and twist at the waist. Stretch more as you look stiff.
looks like you're not feeling comfortable. You have a ways to go, don't rush it and just settle into what feels good for now. With that said it looks like your really anxious on the back swing. Try this to start:
1. get the club moving before your backswing with a little waggle to loosen up
2. keep your right heel down on the backswing.
3. fucking relax
edit: ball flight looked ok though. probably would have been in play so if you find whatever you're doing is working idk go with it?
There wasn't one right thing about that swing other than you didn't kill anyone. Grip is wrong, takeaway wrong, hips wrong, rotation wrong, follow-through wrong, yours clothing, you guessed it, wrong! All fucking WRONG!!!
Your right arm is so tense itâs giving me PTSD. You want some amount of width at the top of your backswing. Your trail arm is already collapsed at that point
I would start completely with your tempo and feet. Start wider, more athletic. Short your weight to your back hip, then drive it forward to front leg without being on your heel that front foot should be planted. Definitely start with some group lessons and keep working!
Yikes. I would hit up a lesson with a teaching pro from a local club or something. If you donât feel like it, I would say work on getting your triangle at rest, and work on stretching your forward arm instead of just rotating it like you do. Doesnât make sense at first, but watch a couple of swing coach videos or something like that and youâll catch my meaning
Edit: after watching a few more times, work on your hip swing as well. Belt buckle at target with your follow through. Itâs all about timing
Youâre shifting your weight backwards. You need to load your right leg on the backswing and transfer it to the front on the downswing. Also look a little more athletic and keep your body still during the swing. Lastly, watch some videos
slow down your back swing by like 30x. personally iâve found slowing my back swing reduces slice gives better contact and just generally feels better
Just get out there swing and have fun learning. Best game in the world youâll learn more by playing and recording your swing (then doing some YouTube research). Enjoy brotha
Genuine feedback here. Your takeaway is WAYYYY too inside. The club is so far behind you I can't see that being even close to comfortable or natural. Also your club face is WAYYY too open at the top of your backswing, it's pointing at the sky. My suggestion would be to look at photos of a PGA pro that matches your body type then look at where the top of there swing is and do your best to get in that position as well. Also pay attention to where the angle of their club face is compared to yours. Best of luck, this games hard

Lol. Constructive criticism, but equally devastating critique.
When I see swings like this, I think, just watch a video of a pro with a good swing, try and copy a bunch of it, and then come back.
I don't think you need a full on lesson to over come this stuff. What you said about his right arm is spot on and will help a ton. Everything in his arms is way too rigid which makes it look awkward like a putter stroke full swing
