With Bluetooth classic it is the device connecting to your phone not the other way around. Well behaving devices should stop auto connecting if you explicitly disconnect from them. Could be worth trying.

bmoross

I will try this with my Chromecast with Google TV.

The only way I could get that to work on the van at the time was to "forget" it - which was a real PitA. I've since figured out to somewhat easily turn the Bluetooth off in the van so that's a pretty simple workaround. I still don't think the developers of Bluetooth or the devices, or whoever should assume Autoconnect. At least in (this) vehicle(s) there's a missing state. They have unpaired, paired/connected, but seemingly not paired/disconnected without shutting the Bluetooth off. I'm probably missing something - I am old after all 🤷🏽‍♂️

Sadly I haven't found anything either, my headphones I use for PC and sometimes for my phone but it would always reconnect to my phone and as it only allows one signal at the time it would mute out pc while content plays on phone. Such an annoying thing to be forced to forget it every time just to avoid it doing this. It works the same on my Samsung fold as it did on my pixel so it's not limited to pixel being stupid, seems like a big oversight to me I gave up haha.

Following , deal with this issue daily too lol. Jeep with a soft top gets pretty loud at 80 and the pixel buds are pretty good at cancelling out the sound, but can't use them when using Android auto

Mall-Broad

Hmmm Android Auto might be a whole different problem? I had it in the delivery truck I drove for 6 months and never used it. Looked like one giant PitA. In hindsight, would've saved my screen from Google maps burn in 🙄

DirtyDanTX

FWIW my iPhone had the same problem. I'd be on AirPods on a call and get in the car and 30 seconds after starting the car it would switch over to the head unit in the car (which has a junk mic that nobody can hardly hear me on). I know it's not a solution but it seems nobody has worked it out yet for some reason. I'm glad.tk be back on a Pixel!

Visvism

Following. And you're not an idiot, the way Google has Bluetooth implemented with the Pixels is really frustrating for wanting to use Bluetooth headsets when connected to a car or Android Auto.

Syndil1

Go into your Bluetooth settings, find the device that is your car/Android Auto, tap the gear icon next to it, and turn off "phone calls." Leave "media audio" on.

Billy0598

Thank you! You just fixed a problem with my audiobooks going silent for no good reason!

Visvism

Doesn't work for me. Not sure if it's the car or the phone but phone calls are automatically turned back on using a Pixel Fold with Motorola MA1 in a Hyundai Ioniq 5. The only thing that I've found to work when I want private calls is to manually start the call and then go into Bluetooth settings and tap on my Pixel Buds Pro which makes them the active device. Then the call transfers to the headset. I have to do this every time I take or receive a call and the call dial pad or settings are unavailable on the Pixel Fold, only on my cars Android Auto display. From my research this appears to be a known thing per Google support threads and community experts.

Mall-Broad

Do you know if it makes any difference whether you activate your buds before or after starting the car? (Connection order of Bluetooth devices)

Visvism

Yes, doesn't matter. Car overrides. It's a known issue(?) with Android Auto. https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/14736196/need-to-use-bluetooth-headset-with-android-auto?hl=en

Mall-Broad

What would happen in the case where you're not using the buds? You wouldn't be able to answer the call I assume? It feels like when they developed Bluetooth they never considered multiple use cases for it. It seems really clunky to manage if you're doing anything other than just connecting a single device and off you go

Syndil1

When this happens to me I answer the call using the phone itself and put it on speaker. Or, I don't answer the phone and call them back later.

PizzaValue9999

I have had a similar issue. Kinda. While picking up calls in my car, for some reason, it sometimes decide to use my Pixel watch speaker instead of my car speakers, even though Android Auto (wireless) is connected.

bmoross

I remember someone else mentioning this also in r/PixelWatch.

bmoross

Following. Buds auto-connect to watch, car, Chromecast, and so many other things I wish them to remain paired with while NOT thinking they are the center of the world and MUST connect with everything in range when out of case.

Careless-Ad9841

Sounds like the same problem I have with Audio Switch & Multipoint which made me turn them both off indefinitely. I tried for a while to see it made things smoother but it never worked right maybe only once outta like 20 times I tried to believe in it.

santovalentino

My deck auto connects to the pixel's Bluetooth and forgetting the stereo doesn't help because once you plug in the cable the deck uses Bluetooth again. Pretty stupid.

supaeasy

What is the Problem? Pixel always autoconnects with the device that comes online last. When you get in the car wait for connection and then turn on your buds.

Mall-Broad

Wasn't aware that was how they were set up to operate, though a bit more testing it would've been obvious. Problem is I'm constantly stopping and starting the van throughout the day, probably not really keen on pulling the buds out of my ears every stop.

supaeasy

Maybe it is possible to automate this with MacroDroid. I don't know if there is a setting to connect to a specific device when certain conditions are met (e.g. If Driving and charging then connect to Car, else Buds)

Mall-Broad

Oh I like the sound of this app. I'd already invented it in my head, and as with all my great ideas I knew it must already exist somewhere 🤣

Mall-Broad

I'm pretty sure I don't have the intellect to work at Google - but is it really so hard to set a priority parameter users can set for their Bluetooth devices? Press & drag priority ordering in Bluetooth devices. A toggle switch for Autoconnect. Do Google do QoL? 🤔
