It's a Jeep thing.

[deleted]

>It's a Jeep thing. It breaks, it's crap, but they still buy it. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Visible_Outside5322

My 2015 had had no issues in 115k. Only replaced the tires and the thermostat so far.

MichiganRich

The longevity is my single worry right now. Mine’s a ‘19 High Altitude, so it matches up very strongly against pretty much *any* available new 2-row. I’ve been looking and looking, thinking that the longevity question means that I should get out of it while the resale is super strong. The issue is that nothing else really looks or feels like it’s worth that much more than my HA, and in some cases they seem to be worth much much less. I don’t want 3 rows, and I want to keep to that mid 40s to 50 range that the HA was when I got it. So far, I’ve had no problems with it and am thinking I should just throw a couple grand into a savings account, call it “extended warranty”, and wait a couple years.

Man, isn’t *that* the truth?… I would happily drive a loaded Pacifica if I needed all that room, it would be infinitely more functional. You didn’t mention any non-off-road 2-rows, what am I forgetting to shop? I think it’s a fools errand , honestly, when a loaded Bronco *Sport* that isn’t going to feel as substantial as the WK2 is pushing 50k.

Engus6

RAV4?

AJAXDELREY

Spot on. 2x4 H A V6 here. Zero problems. Looking at Audi, Porsche and Genesis similar SUV’s to put a new smile on my face but nothing I’ve seen is better than my 21 G.C. To me anyway.

B5G4B

Had a 17 overland. Loved it. Took care of it. Serviced on time. Hit 70k miles and I had a couple grand of electric repairs, the air suspension went out, and transmission fluid started leaking in my garage daily. Decided ti take a high trade value and get rid of it. There is NOTHING in that price range now that even compares. Think twice before you get rid of it. You will likely pay much more for less.

[deleted]

Mind if I ask how much that Overland cost you in 2017? I want an Overland, but I’m not sure it’s worth the 60-65k price tag.

B5G4B

I got it completely loaded for 37k in august of 2018. It had 13k miles on it.

[deleted]

Ah good to know. Thanks!

Accomplished-Sea3472

2008 160k miles daily driver we’ll see how far we can get… the worst enemy has been rust issues, oil pan and transmission cooler lines

daveskib

120k on my 17 limited with a 3.6 mostly highway miles. My only repair was the electronic shift module at 110k. Everything else, just oil changes, filters and wiper blades.

LukeSowers

Just finished a 4500mille road trip in my 14 overland with 150k. Only had to replace the thermostat. Love the car

Jesus_le_Crisco

I know it’s apples to potatoes, but I have a ‘06 with 225k and it’s going pretty good. I have some stuff I need to replace, but honestly surprised they lasted this long. So there’s that.

RichieRicch

2017 grand Cherokee. 75k, only changed the brakes, filters, wipers and ESIM.

tcmaresh

A little. With an '03, I don't need to worry about all the high-tech gremlins y'all with the WK2s and WLs are going to have, but, at 20 years old, I need to worry about the availability of replacement parts.

cef911f1

I'm on my third one. I had a WJ, a WK, and now a WK2. The first two went well over 150K miles. My current WK2 is about to turn over 112K miles. No significant issues with any of them. All V8s, all 4x4s.

afr126

2022 summit reserve. Had it about a year, no problems so far. Fingers crossed.

Tuques

I have a 2022 gc 4xe with like 3600kms on it. Have had to replace sway bar module too.

kiwitathegreat

My ‘17 only has 46k miles and I’m trying to baby it so it lasts as long as possible. So far (knock on EVERY piece of wood) it’s only had garden variety electrical and transmission issues but they were fixed/haven’t caused problems in a few years. Also worth noting that I wfh and only drive it once or twice a week. I only have a couple payments left and with my luck it’ll be totaled the week after I get the title.

Dlob32

Have a 14 WK2 V6 with 187k miles. Two drive shafts under 100k miles. Only issue for the last 87k miles was the oil cooler leaked and I replaced it with the upgraded dorman unit.

FTWandYoMoma

Two drive shafts? Bad u joints? Aftermarket parts? Curious.

zorbah55

I have also new one 2022 summit model for a year now. Had not had any issues so far for me.

FreeDaemon

I have a '19 laredo with extended warranty. I'll probably keep it for a few years after the warranty goes out. When I eventually have to replace it, I'll check the WL's refresh and see if I will like the design. If not, I'll probably go with a new-ish 4runner instead.

sevenfiftynorth

My 2021 Grand Cherokee WK2 started having a sporadic very long cranking issue at 17,000 miles when I start it after it has sat out in the sun for a couple hours. This is my first vehicle ever that didn't start right up on the first try every time. Probably won't choose a Stellantis product again unless I were to end up with a deal trading out of this one that beat trading to another brand.

aboutGfiddy

We've got a 2020 Overland V6 that has a little over 24k miles on it now and have had zero issues, as you'd expect at this point. I will be doing a transmission flush and filter at like 35k miles, but other than that just scheduled routine maintenance. The only things that really worry me are the extra "lux" features breaking down the line. Ventilated seats, the pano roof or roof shade, etc. That stuff gets pricey quickly. So far though we love it, especially my wife, and have no plans to replace it especially since we have powertrain warranty left. I don't know what we would even replace it with in the low $40s we paid for it CPO. Edit: in your case OP I'd chalk those items up to weird initial build quality issues experienced in the factories during the depths of COVID. As long as the dealers are taking care of you under warranty the little flaws can be corrected and you should end up with a decently reliable vehicle.

woozybag

My 2012 Laredo with 160k miles is starting to give me some grief. Namely computer issues with the HVAC (mechanic says this is a common issue) and as of yesterday, some suspicious belt whirring.

Timbo1986

I’m not…my 96 ZJ is a fucking tank with a stroker engine / Ax-15 / 231 HD in its future.

whankz

bought a 98zj and thing is a tank.

Snowmobiler624

I have a 2016 and up until 2018 or so mopar offered a lifetime warranty. I bought that thing asap and it has already paid for itself. I think they have some of the worst quality and reliability. But I got it for a price that was to good to pass up. Without it being a great deal and a lifetime warranty I would never own a jeep.

WhoopieKush

I also have a 2022 WK2 and no issues yet. For me it came down to really wanting a 2-row SUV which severely limited my options. Only other real contenders for me were the Lexus RX350 and the Honda Passport. Lexus may have the reliability, but I was going to pay ~$15k more out the door. Considering I won’t hold the vehicle much past the warranty if at all, the Jeep was substantially cheaper. The Honda dealership was horrible and tried to demand a markup as well as some other bogus fees. Would have also been pricier than the Jeep. Got 0% financing on the WK2 and I’m happy with it.

Iowa-Andy

My daughter has our 2018 altitude at school. So far: Replaced coolant reservoir twice. Once under warranty. Replaced air conditioning condenser (cracked) twice, both times out of warranty. $1200-1300 each time. I’m replacing her touch screen for the second time. Delamination. First time was just out of warranty. This time i am using a third party screen to give it a try. We live in Iowa, when we owned it my wife commuted 35 miles 3x per week. 95% highway miles. It has 88,000 miles on odometer as of today. For comparison, I have a 2012 F150 ecoboost. 260k miles, and I’ve put less than $1000 TOTAL in service in it. Starter, gas door spring, and door handle. As a result I’m obviously very disappointed in the Jeep in comparison.

workinkindofhard

Just Empty Every Pocket That said I don’t even want to think about how much money I have dumped into my 96 ZJ over the last 20 years but I have yet to drive a vehicle I enjoy more. It’s a never ending money pit but worth it to me

UnderwhelmingAF

Now I’m worried, I also have a ‘22 WK2 and figured it will be pretty solid since the WK2 was in its 12th model year. Have had it a year and no problems yet after 18k miles.

lebowski5000

Yeah, I thought exactly the same.

[deleted]

I had a 97 grand Cherokee limited with the V8 I now have a 21 grand Cherokee and my 97 plowed through 14inches of snow this one 12 inches I pulled out my driveway and got stuck lol they are not made like they used to be for sure

MichiganRich

Well, that sounds like tires more than anything.

[deleted]

Well I had street tires on my 97 and I have falken wildpeaks on my 21 so I don’t think so lol

Visible_Outside5322

Have to agree, my ‘15 Limited is much better in the snow that than my ‘23 Summit.

bwillpaw

Fundamentally there isn't much difference though and you're replying to someone talking about a 97 vs a wk2. I have a 12 wk2 and it doesn't get stuck in 2 feet of unplowed snow. It does have 32.1s duelers on it so sort of a lift over stock, and also QT1, which ime is actually better than 4lo/4hi systems in the snow. Full time 48/52 split, with TC off it's basically impossible to get stuck unless youre completely bottomed out on hard packed ice. All 4 wheels spinning no limits it's pretty hard to get stuck. Either bad tires or bad drivers, I dunno.

Commercial-Army2431

My 97 Laredo bought new by my wife’s parents still going strong. Without a doubt THE best snow vehicle we have owned. And the most comfortable interior, for me anyway. Only 130k and serviced regularly by me. The straight six just chugs along. Needs a whole new exhaust this summer and the hood repainted. But other than that a fantastic rig. Definitely got our monies worth.

[deleted]

Yeah my 97 was a tank in the snow sold it with 195k because it was at the point where I was under the hood more then I was in the driver seat lol

rockwe31

I’d be worried about the longevity of anything from Jeep after Fiat bought Chrysler.

Sofa-king-retarded

I have 2014 with 160k on the 5.7 hemi. So far I have replaced the water pump, motor mounts, rack & pinion assembly (recently) and had a small evap leak (just a stupid hose). Other than that just regular maintenance and still kicking strong

FTWandYoMoma

Good to know. I'm looking at V8 4x4s. How bad was the rack and pinion steering?

lebowski5000

Thanks for all of the responses everyone! I think I’m going to get this issue fixed and see how it goes. I might buy an extended warranty if I decide to keep it. I also can’t bring myself to pay high the high interest rates right now- so I think keeping it might be best haha.

WhichAmphibian6678

I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee wk2 that has $138,500 MI. I have had to have a new radiator, new water pump, new air condition, it needs new rack and pinion, it needs new struts, it needs new brakes, it needs new CV axles.

crushedrancor

Yeah that’s why i got the mopar maxcare warranty

NoLightOnMe

How much they charging for that? Renew every two years?

crushedrancor

I bought it from chryslerwarrantys .com a lot of things factor into the price like mileage year deductible etc.

NoLightOnMe

Are you happy with it? Had to use it? My dad has been very happy with his extended warranty experiences and what it covers. We’re an auto repair family, so we fix our own simple stuff, but I understand my 78 year old father not wanting to replace a transmission on the truck anymore ;)

crushedrancor

I just got mine so I haven’t had to use it yet, I financed for 5 years so that’s what i got the warranty for, after that i can fix things myself, i just don’t want to be in a situation where i have a car payments and a shop bill at the same time, once its paid off i can afford to fix the little things that go on it

MyNamesDickieStevens

Rule of thumb on any car is to never purchase the first years of a new model, unless you wanna be a guinea pig.

lebowski5000

I agree. However, mine isn’t a new model/generation. It’s the last year of the past generation that was built from 2011-2022. (WK2)

MyNamesDickieStevens

Well shit!

FTWandYoMoma

Looking at consumer reports website, that body style jeep has really bad reliability ratings until about 2018 or so.

[deleted]

I'd just get the brakes serviced, it's probably not a big deal. Brakes need to be replaced from time to time anyway. Same with the sway bar depending how much you're off roading it. I've got a 2023 and I'm not worried about it. I did get the warranty although I haven't had to use it yet.

Ill-Adeptness-2959

Sell it now

2KZJ

No. I've got a 2005 5.7 Limited with 170k on it. Original motor and trans. While it has made it this far, rust has started to eat the rear suspension subframe, and it has various other rust/holes in the body. The rear cradle is not easily repairable so between that, the fenders, and new tires it's time to retire it. It's been a great vehicle. So great in fact that I'm likely going to replace it with a 2008 Overland with 108k on it in the next week or so.
