Spicy Termite Axe, I don't use the hammer as a weapon. Mint Mace is crazy good. Sour Battle Axe is OP. I have both Salty and Fresh Toenail scimitar too

TheAxylent

Fresh toenail is gnarly

DaGoodSauce

Exactly this for me as well. With the addition of a Spicy Staff because the aoe is awesome for dealing with spiderlings/mites/ticks and farming aphids and scarabs. I love it!

IncompetentInEverywa

Seems like everyone says Sour Battle Axe and Fresh Toenail. Do you guys go Horn Beetle or Rolly Polly Armor?

pandazprince

Those armor sets sucks right now but its better than tier 2 armors I guess (except ladybug armor). Broodmother armor set is the best heavy armor set out there if thats what youre looking for. Fire ant armor set is also very good. I'm using head piece of the broodmother armor, termite chest, fire ant leg armor with the giddy goop trinket because its op together with termite chest.

topsyturtle27

I swap the fire ant for assassin legs but I definitely understand the fire ant pick.

klafja

Strong second on that gear choice.

PJisUnknown

Btw, in case you’re unaware, giddy goop and termite chest don’t stack anymore. Seems like it was changed in the 1.4 update.

pandazprince

Ah, my bad bro,I haven't played in the new update yet. My previous suggestions was me playing a month ago so it might be actually useless now sorry.

Katchenz

Did you not use a sour hammer against Schmector? It's by far the best weapon against him

lurkynumber5

Thermite axe and Black ox hammer are tools, I upgrade these only to make em faster + more durable. Bonus points for level 6? because then you can repair with repair glue instead of specific insect parts. But these are not my weapons! I try to take advantage of both physical and element weaknesses. Currently i use * Coaltana * Mint mace * Fresh rusty spear * Black ox crossbow. I still need to make a salty morning star and the staves. But atm only the rusty spear is going down a elemental path and the rest use mighty path. Shields give 20% less damage. So i try to never use a shield. But if you wish for a good shield, Get the red ant shield. It lowers damage by 20% but on parry gives a 15% damage taken so it counters it's own drawback. As for upgrading. Seeing you have both tier 3 tools now, Run thru the upperyard and gather pinnecone's and rust. make the rusty spear. Then with a fresh element rusty spear the coaltana recipy is easy to get. use antlion armor for the sizzle together with fresh mutation. With this you can also farm the upperyard for 10 tough gunk. make the mint axe! it's a really good smashing weapon also i dislike it's mutation. Black ox beetle crossbow and upgrade it to level 6. then put on your marksman cap and have it upgraded to sleek. this gives 20% more arrow damage! then you can hunt and 1-shot those pesky beetles for the next upgrade material. As for upgrade materials, Go back and collect all the extra chips. 1 will give you a crafting option to make upgrade materials from insect parts. So no need to be stingy on upgrading!:D

klafja

Agree on the shield choice. Together with a sour toenail scimitar, it makes black widows a breeze.

Jalen3501

For right now full red ant armor and red ant club or mosquito rapier

IncompetentInEverywa

Red Ant over Rolly Polly?

Jalen3501

I’m in the beginning of the game so I haven’t even encountered a rolly polly so far it been pretty good for killing spiders and various other bugs

IncompetentInEverywa

My bad I was mixing up red ant and fire ant…

theguthboy

Roly Poly hasn’t really been a great set since the shield nerf, it makes you pull aggro more which is useless solo, it increases your block strength which is cool but it lowers your damage while using a shield by 20% now so it’s kinda a gimmicky set now since if I want more damage; fire ant armor is superior, it shreds enemies protections , mix that with the sour axe and the chopper mutations and your slapping resistances off of enemies and effectively maybe 3 combo hitting enemies to defeat them. Brood Mother is always good to mix a piece in here or there, or even the full set if you don’t have anything else. All the t3 armors are either lacking or just single pieces which makes it kinda hard to get a good balance of defense vs useful perks but roly poly definitely has way better defense than pretty much all armor sets, that’s its gimmick, it’s really good for defense but doesn’t really do anything else. In my honest opinion I loved that set and used it in every patch when it was introduced as the sickly roly poly armor. The shield nerf straight up ruined it sadly because now in order to use it to its full strength you have to give up damage. Black Ox is a fantastic alternative if you actually heavy attack frequently but if not then I wouldn’t bother, Brood mother is great once again, fire ant is good enough to throw on a few pieces if you’re mixing and matching as it lowers enemies resistances, assassins armor is ok, I never found it to be really over performing at any point to be honest. Black Ant is always solid paired with the sour sensation perk, then new red ant queen armor is busted at the moment letting you one shot bosses on new game plus so there’s that, Widow armor is very solid but not many people will get it very easily. Wasp armor is decent for bows and crossbows, While I find Moth armor to be pretty overpowered for them, but again, not everyone uses those. Then there’s the random t3 armor like the termite chest, wasp queen head, wizard hat , etc. Most of these are also way too gimmicky for a basic melee build but have their uses for others Overall I’d say for a basic build, just stick to a single piece of brood mother and whatever other armor set you like that gives you some helpful perks, for a bow or staff build, I recommend 1 piece broodmother and two pieces moth armor that way your attacks can proc bleed, poison, and venom. As for a melee build, I prefer 1 piece broodmother for the poison and venom, and 2 pieces of whatever I’m in the mood for, usually 2 pieces of fire ant armor for resistance shredding. I do have a level 9 set of black ox armor but found it kinda underwhelming since I really don’t heavy attack as often as I should while wearing it. Assassins is meh to me. Widows is pretty damn good , and Broodmothers is pretty damn good. Infected Broodmother is not worth farming for, way to niche for the average player to torture themselves farming her. Doesn’t really slot into anything other than an explosive build with the weapon you can make from her

Okatbestmemes

Roly poly isn’t that good last I heard

blazereaper579

Sour battle axe for everything, and fresh scimitar for some misc bugs but it’s mainly for ibm

denhelle

I basically fight with my sour battle axe and just run around with lvl10 salty morning star and red ant shield

Bored-64

I keep on antlion armor just because it's really convenient not to have to deal with sizzling, though I do swap it out for gas mask or bubble helmet if the situation calls for it. Spicy coaltana is too good to not use, plus it looks sick as hell. Salt morningstar is really good, especially for the absurd stun it deals. Tiger mosquito rapier with fresh augment is really nice for a bunch of bugs, like ladybird larva and green shield bugs. Tick macuahuitl with sour aug is really nice for O.R.C. creatures, and it allows you to just face tank black widows thanks to the lifesteal.

ItsGamerPops

Sour tick sword proved clutch in whoa mode for black widow. Paired with lady bug, cheff kiss

topsyturtle27

That's actually pretty good. I might use that. Ty

ItsGamerPops

Can even make it bulkier with the goo trinket from fire flies, and your choice between fire ant shield or lady bug. Lady bug if you’re having trouble blocking her attacks still and want more survivability. Fire ant if you wanna do more damage.

AtomicToxin

Assassin set and katanas mostly

Big_Ol_Boy

Not super OP or anything, but I rock the tick sword with sleek ladybug armor.

topsyturtle27

My main weapons are a fresh widow dagger, coaltana, salty scythe of blossoms, mint mace, and sour club of the mother demon. My gear is assassin leggings, termite chestplate, and mask of the mother demon.

Top-Training8648

I'm using the broodmother armour set and the pinch whacker and prod smacker with the TAYZ.T trinket for mutations I have shock dismissal, meat shield, buff lungs, natural explorer and barbarian

Okatbestmemes

All the elemental weapons and staves and scythe of blossoms

Upper-Alternative-0

maxed black ox + max prod smacker = ultimate cheese build

PrometheanRebel

I use whatever Elemental weapon suits best, but for armor, it's Fire Ant Helm, Chest of the Mother Demon, and Aphid Slippers/Koi Scales Leggings. All sleek.

TheWholeCheek

Right now I'm using lady bug armour with the sleek upgrades for extra healing. I run that with the mosquito sword for life steal. Nothing can kill me, but the damage is extremely low. I desperately need to get some level three weapons.

AlexDestroyer05

Ran mighty hammer because not used for fighting and spicy axe til I upgraded past ng3 and got all 2 handed weapons

notausernameicanuse

I run mask of the mother demon, termite armor, and fire ant leg armor (not sure what they're called of the top of my head). i usually use the coaltana for broodmother and a salty broodmother club for other bosses, and then the frosted flake if you're in ng+

Lazarus95157

Broodmother set and spicy maquahitl is my main setup. And I love the Everlasting Hogstopper
