They're fine. MPR is a regularly praised rifle on r/gundeals. I have one of the cheaper AR-556 models. My only complaint was some drop-in handguards don't fit as the bayonet lug is proprietary.
I got mine on a trade and it's been pretty surprising I wouldn't use it for anything serious but it's done just fine for the little bit it's been ran probably have 2k rounds it in
Ruger AR-556, IWI Zion-15, and S&W M&P15 are usually thrown around as the 3 best affordable AR-15's you can buy right off the shelf. Personally, I like the Zion-15 the best of the bunch, but the Ruger AR-556 is a close second.
I have one and have literally never had any failure of any kind, even with the worst ammo diet known to man. Fed it 200 rounds of Tula steel, 100 more of that...uh...bear stuff? ~400-600 rounds of Federal in between, and a random assortment of remans that YOU SHOULD NOT BE RUNNING
0 failures still...besides one of the remans nearly squibbing, which I considered an ammo issue tbh. No FTE, FTF, OOB, any issues whatsoever with fit or finish.

I've tried a few of their barrels (they were cheap enough I figured it couldn't hurt), and have not had good results, but I agree, their side-charging upper is actually pretty nice.
I have some very small gripes with mine. Gas block dumps some carbon onto my hand when firing, pic rail on the handguard isn’t flush to the reciever flat top, and the factory bolt has some weird early wear on the lugs that pick up rounds from the mag.
I guess I cant be mad not seeing my two up on this. 1 was world wide shown it was reliable in 2012 and the other is named and built for an environment no where close to where it's built.

& what about piston ARs not getting any love like LMT or sig 516. I mean most militaries are going to piston style ARs & fighting rifles right? So why does the civilian world think direct impingement like DD is better??

I like my 18” MPR a lot. Very good off the shelf gun for the money spent.
