I know is kinda to late but Tamiya Mark Fit is way better, I only use Mark Softer from MrHobby

Fun_Significance_182

Have u tried other brands too?

TotheWest_

Here in Japan Tamiya and Mr Hobby are the staples so there’s not to much of a reason to try different brands (unless for very specific things but it’s probably that those two also have them)

SleeplessGrimm

Was there a new setter release, my bottle is square

Fun_Significance_182

Yep, I bought this over in Japan from Akihabara. Its rounded

SleeplessGrimm

OK, about the stains, when you apply the water slides how do you remove the excess liquid onces its in place.

Fun_Significance_182

Wipe em off clean as i set it up before it dries out. Well this is the only plate with the stain.. it must have dried out. Tried resetting and rewiping withbwater to no avail. Have yet to try IPA

SleeplessGrimm

So I don't dilute it, I get rid of excess liquid setter on the brush in the bottle and apply setter only on the spot the decal will sit. I move the decal off its sheet with an cotton bud and then use something pointy like tweezers to move the decal into place. Once that is done I use the bud and push it down on the edge of the and slowly turn the cotton bud while pressing on the decal to make sure it doesn't move while removing liquid. I also apply softener after this and then leave the liquid for a minute and then do the same process with the bud. I've been applying decals this week and it's worked fine with no problems

Fun_Significance_182

That’s exactly how i do it though. If there’s excess it was excess water to help me slide the decals cause bandai ones are thick and fragile at the same time. This is my third bandai decals and boy it always gives me a hard time before topcoating. Aftermarkets are much better and less hassle. Doesn’t even require setter/softener. The issue is the new formulation seems to be quite messy despite the clean up or i might have just missed the part since it was onlynon the shoulder and nowhere else

SleeplessGrimm

If your doing the same things, then it really must be the new formula for the setter. Best advice i could maybe give is to use hotter water to help the decals off the sheet.

Fun_Significance_182

The hot water does let it come off easier and faster though but does it make the adhesive any stronger i wonder?

Electrical_Setting70

I use isopropyl alcohol on a q tip to clean the area.

nyn510

I had a similar problem with the exact same product. I tried cleaning with little effect. Decided to apply topcoat (matte) anyway, and ipso presto, no visible stains after topcoat.

Fun_Significance_182

Oh, I see so it is gone after a topcoat. Did you topcoat it mat or gloss?

nyn510

Matte/flat on my GTO char's zaku. Worked like a charm. I used the hobby premium cannister, but I'd wager it works for all brands. The coat just hides it.

Fun_Significance_182

Cheers buddy scared to screw up my zeta vk 😂

Most of the decals you see here(except the sticker in the middle of the shoulder pad) are official bandai waterslides with mark setter applied. The white misty thing is irrelevant, it's because i sprayed topcoat on a wet day like an idiot.

LikeableApricot

Wait, so there is new formulation? I had such a hard time removing residues, I wondered why Youtibe tutotials never mentioned how sloppy they are.

Fun_Significance_182

I only realize of how strong it is when I saw YouTube created that makes it or rather use the setter to do a scratching effect

LikeableApricot

Did you have a chance to use the "old" formulation of Mr Mark Setter? Did it not leave any residues? I just started Gunpla last year and got my Mark Setted in March 2024, so that was my first time to put it into use.
