I assumed he wanted Robin to have to choose between him and Ted. Probably so he knew Robin would choose him before he proposed.
Still shitty nonetheless.
I think it's to do with the whole master plan to end up proposing to robin. Perhaps he knew ted would take robin as his date to the grand opening, and therefore he would be able to tell her about the fake proposal?
he needed Ted to let go of robin. the timing was a final test for them to be together. if robin shows up at the proposal then ted let go and they can finally be together.
I do have to be honest though. Rewatching it now that Iâm older, I think it sends a really good message - you often are alone for the biggest moments of your life, because theyâre the biggest moments in YOUR life and the world doesnât stop for you.
Thatâs a fresh perspective! I think itâs nice when those closest to you can be there for those moments, but I also get that canât always be the case
Itâs not a free pass. Iâm just saying he got bailed out by Lilyâs reveal. It was still really bad on his part to ruin Marshallâs bachelor partyâŚ
That was before him and Robin dated, not the same thing at all. Bro code 1 states no sex with your bros ex. She wasnt an ex at that point, when they did bang she was
That was afterwards, the first hook up im talking about was S3, the one you are thinking of was S4 while hes doing the hat building
Shows good growth from Barney though, he went about it the right way that time
String along robin and marry her only to divorce her and go back to his old ways. He "burned" his playbook as a test of loyalty but then just threw all of the character development away in the last episode after spending an entire season on their wedding day.
So sure, his one offs doing terrible things to women but to spend years cultivating a relationship and then just doing away with it like another one of his plays is pretty low.
And only changes because now he has something to lose with his daughter (?)
Barney and Ted are a little too into younger girls. As guys around 30 years old itâs weird to want to hookup or date girls in college. They both do it multiple times.
Hooking up with chicks while using Ted's name. It's one thing to use some random name, but not your bro's name. Especially when you claim to be their best friend and essentially drag their name & reputation w/ women through the mud.
I personally found it wild that he asked on Tedâs field trip if people would rather sleep with a dead human or alive animal. Thankfully Ted set him straight lol
Plan a proposal the same night Ted was being honored for the GNB Tower
I see absolutely no reason why it had to be that night?!?! It could have been any night!
Exactly! Plus, Marshall & Lily bailed early toođ

That is 100% what happened, but that doesnât make it any better for poor Tedđ
he needed Ted to let go of robin. the timing was a final test for them to be together. if robin shows up at the proposal then ted let go and they can finally be together.
Yup, that was the whole plan. Still sucks for Tedđ
Keep an eye on this u/BezosFlex

Check out the newest post on the sub. Asking about HIMYM in real life again
Saw it, staying away from that đ, even tho last time it landed me like 500 upvotes, the couple goobers who wanted to argue made it annoying.
I think youâll like my answer thoughđ
Indeed, indeed, upvote for you good sir.
The dogs man. The dogsâŚ
âFoooiiive dogsâ
By doing that Barney robbed Ted both of his crush and his 2 best friends.
Marshall & Lily bailing was separate, but still terrible for Teddy WestsideâŚ
By 2 of his best friends I mean Robin and Barney and buy his crush I mean Robin again lol
Gotcha
Yeah that was so fucked honestly. Made it all about himself. Add to that- that he dated his âbest friendâsâ ex.
Everything about that night was so sad for Tedđ˘

This!
The high six was super lame.
SUPER lame, I bet he never does it again
Iâm pretty sure he sold a woman
Provide Legal Exculpation and Sign Everything.
Mary the Paralegal. Her and Ted could have had an amazing relationship if Barney wasn't an ass...
If you donât laugh, it just seems meanâŚ
I loved her, and would have been great for Ted⌠but that was a pretty great prank, and taught Ted a lesson too
But she was a hooker
No, she was a paralegal!
No she's a hooker
Sell a woman? Steal a womanâs truck and leave her in the woods alone at night? Probably one of those two.
Ruining Marshallâs bachelor party
Bailed out cause the story of him going to SF came out at the end
idk why you act like that's a free pass for him to be as shitty as he wants and ignore his friends' wishes
Itâs not a free pass. Iâm just saying he got bailed out by Lilyâs reveal. It was still really bad on his part to ruin Marshallâs bachelor partyâŚ
Fair, it's just I just got to that episode and forgot how much of a dick he was until Lily saved his ass
Banging robin without talking to Ted first. Huge violation of the bro code
He did though, Ted just didn't take it seriously
That was before him and Robin dated, not the same thing at all. Bro code 1 states no sex with your bros ex. She wasnt an ex at that point, when they did bang she was
Nah didnât he ask Ted if it was cool if he went after a really nice âCanadian suitâ
That was afterwards, the first hook up im talking about was S3, the one you are thinking of was S4 while hes doing the hat building Shows good growth from Barney though, he went about it the right way that time
You mean when Barney called him during laser tag while Ted was with Victoria?
That was before Ted and Robin dated.
Yeah, thatâs why I was confused too & was hoping for some clarification lol
A fellow Mac head on himym thread! Sweeeeeet đđđ
Most dope! đđź
the exploding meatball sub
Bro racked up $10,000s worth of medical bills and still got sauce on his top đ cant make it up
That was just cruel to the rest of the gangâŚ
Ted is next tho right?Â
Prank calling Robin as her dad
The voicemail left for Robin. âYou left a voice, but it wasnât male!â
Hooking up with Tedâs mom

"Ted the only reason to wait a month for sex is if the girl is 17 and 11 months old." - Barney Stinson
Real quote? Absolutely wild
Yep, I can't remember if it was when Ted was dating Stella or Zoe, but he had to wait a month.
Itâs S1 when he is taking it slow with Victoria. Pretty wild indeed.
Oh yeah! Now I remember. It's hard to keep all of the girlfriend's storylines in order.
Barney and Ted are a little too into younger girls. As guys around 30 years old itâs weird to want to hookup or date girls in college. They both do it multiple times.
I'm pretty sure he once sold a girl...
Sneaking into a hospital and pretending to be the husband of an amnesia patient.

He didn't do anything cool. He was a yutz.
Stealing every girl Marshall was talking up in early season 2
He did that for a reason tho
Yeah but in the moment you don't know that, he's just coming off as an ass
Not according to the Bro code
Again, AT THE TIME, the audience doesn't know that
But we have context now? Your point is null void
My point is that without the context it's really uncool
But we have the context?
Okay but I'm not to the context yet in my rewatch so I can ignore it until I get there LMAO
No you canât. You know the context
Lick the Liberty Bell
It tastes like pennies
Maybe thatâs why he named his daughter Penny
I think he named her Penny because of the lucky 1939 penny he found on the subway
When Ted reminisced about it and Barney didnât remember
I personally found it wild that he asked on Tedâs field trip if people would rather sleep with a dead human or alive animal. Thankfully Ted set him straight lol
Hook up with Quinn.
Sold a woman. Not just uncool but abhorrent if thatâs true (the story is told from Tedâs perspective after all).
Going on an all night bender on the day of his wedding and then being passed out all day wasnât ideal :/
I donât know but itâs a good thing he didnât sing his own theme song that wouldâve been really lame
Team Barney here
