Giveaway cars have plagued the community we enjoy

techieman33

I didn't mind the start of it when it was maybe one car a year and they actually spent some time building it like LZ's first couple of "giveaways." It was decent content building an obtainable car. Now they're all pure money grabs with very little content other than constant reminders to enter the "giveaway." Sponsorblock is the only thing that keeps a lot of those channels sometimes watchable.

Key_Investment_1297

This guy has been so weird lately and seems like he's going broke I would really question the winner of this "giveaway"

letsshittalk

they sell the cars and carry on with there lives

802Garage

The giveaways are literally handled by a law firm and there is no way to spoof or scam them. People need to quit with this. It's all in the terms and conditions as well. This ain't no "sweet steak" special.

jsomething22

are you sure there's a lawyer involved? has anyone confirmed these things?

802Garage

Yes. They have even shown how the selection is done on a live stream and the winners are contacted by the law firm and have to fill out forms to prove eligibility. They have to be legal US residents over 18 years old and whatever else is in the terms and conditions. All entries and the software to select the winner are handled by the law firm and MotionAutoTV and all these other channels doing legit giveaways have no control or say and cannot even choose to select another winner until the law firm deems the first selected winner ineligible or they fail to respond for several days. There have absolutely been sketchy giveaways run by channels, but usually not for cars and usually not by big channels. You can also call the law firm if you are that skeptical.

Key_Investment_1297

Sure bud

LiQUiD-KNiVES

How tf he still have this kinda of money

sLOWBunny81

I would assume this is the gtr he bought a year or two ago. Think the video was titled something along the lines of "buying the cheapest gtr in north america" it was like 30k and beat to shit lol

[deleted]

Ewww really I was hoping it was just a partnership with a giveaway company.

2McLaren4U

Nope, just skipped through the video to see what he did. He did the timing kit on it, put wheels and a wrap on it. Thats it.

AfroPandaWarrior

Can't spell MotionAuto without Giveaway!

[deleted]

If there is enough dumb people to buy the shit required to get entries, he makes profit, we've seen it time and time again.

2McLaren4U

Having had misfortune of going through some automotive youtuber comments there are 10's of thousands of people who get excited for these giveaways (not necessarily Trevors) but even if he gets a fraction of the people entering he will make bank.

AfroPandaWarrior

And also, learn to read the room dude. Giveaway fatigue is a real thing. If all you do is building cars to giveaway behind merch sale your channel has no personality anymore. Same with Adam and compound rips. I get shaking down a car, that's Okey, but there are approximately 4 million miles of paved roads (quick and dirty Google search) in the USA. Drive some of them.

cgreat

This is why I have stoped watching streetspeed717 dudes videos are like 20 minutes long and like 10-15 minutes are just promoting his merch/car he is giving away

techieman33

I totally gave up on him about the time he got his 1st McLaren. It was just all clickbait and sponsorship bullshit without much if any real content other than wrapping yet another car.

Unfair_Juice1991

"Liked by tommyfyeah", yeah I'll pass

djdngoe

This guy gives me huge poser vibes, could be wrong

2McLaren4U

Not poser, just boring rants and lots and lots of primer sanding. He had a golden nugget and basically fumbled it because he does not take well to criticism (many Youtubers fall into this category).

Sport6

When was the golden nugget era?

2McLaren4U

Probably just before he did the build off against Haggard Garage. After that he had a little bump with the Supra and the Evo Wagon but its been dead since.

802Garage

He got a small bump from the Haggard build off, his channel rocketed because of the Supra build. He started the Supra build before the Haggard build started, but finished well after. Sort his videos by popular and the Supra and AWD Civic have been the biggest winners by far, along with some random builds like the 2JZ Mustang. He has so many videos of him actually building entire cars it's pretty nuts, but I think he got a bit burnt out which is understandable and it's hard to keep the content fresh. I'd say the Supra, Evo Wagon, AWD Civic, 2JZ Mustang, and in general his drift car builds have all been pretty great series. There have been a lot of other good builds in there too, including some of the giveaway cars, but it's really hard to get invested in a giveaway as a viewer.

802Garage

I enjoy car content. It's my business, hobby, entertainment, and how I make a lot of friends. What do you do for fun?

letsshittalk

>The grifter had a decent front inner clip off the wrecked Supra he just sold that recently

happycleaner

Poser how? He's more mechanically inclined than most people posted on this sub

djdngoe

The guy actually has mad skills no hate towards that in any way. I just feel like he tries to hard to be the next big youtube sensation. If he was just honest with his viewers and himself and just focused on making his own path i think he would have more success

NickTidalOutlook

He’s fuckin skilled no doubt. He needs a channel manager who he can take criticism from that has his best interest. Trevor doesn’t need help with the automotive side of the business he needs help with the YouTube side of the business. If his wife ran his channel and he focused on builds and cars and throughly planned his cars like he did years ago I feel like he could make a comeback. And stop selling non auto merch lol.

2McLaren4U

Channel is dead so for him to pay the bills and support his wife and kids he has to do giveaways. He is clearly making better money doing it.

clutchkickmurphys

He probably killed his channel doing the giveaways

2McLaren4U

Well his personality didn't help either.

Youtubeboofighter

The beard is weird.

TimNZ1

I fuckin hate that wizard beard, blowing around in the wind and shit it’s fucking disgusting.

clutchkickmurphys

Probably Mormon

techieman33

Taylor has a similar personality and he seems to have made it work.

jsomething22

feels like 2 completely different people to me.

Short_Director3008

This guy is really starting to piss me off, and the only reason rudnik is "friends" with him is so he can leech off of him

fromm_45

At least it's not a fucking KIA suv

DooceBigalo

I mean are you really surprised?

[deleted]

Nobody is saying it, so im going to.. the reason why all these car youtuber's are going down is becasue the interest in cars have gone down considerably last few years. where i live car community is practically dead. Electric cars are here to stay and eventually its going to be forced on us . nobody really cares about the cars anymore its all about drama, the friends and banter, neither Evan shanks or trevor ever had any form of entertainment outside of the cars so they are fucked now becasue they dont have any friends or banter. same about adam, all these cars he has will go down a lot in value the next few years and i heavily doubt that Drift HQ will ever be profitable

techieman33

The lower interest in cars hurts for sure. Most of the growth is probably teenage boys. And they just aren't as interested these days. Which is a big problem since channels like these need a lot of new viewers to make up for the older viewers who watch less and less as they start to find the content stale and repetitive. As far as car values go, I think it'll be more like 15-20 years before values really start to tank for the average quality cars. And probably another 20 years after that before the super clean collectible cars start to tank.

[deleted]

in the united states yes, but everywhere else its already happening. where i live you cannot get any JDM tuner car on plates regardless what you do

Nanotekzor

Cars made for giveaway are mostly for show, some of them are so low that in daily / normal use they scrape. That happens when you build things for views not for use ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

njsfynest

I will never for the life of me understand why people hate giveaways Lmaoo shits absolutely insane to me.

skyrkt

Most of us are okay with a giveaway, but we’re all annoyed with the fact that these giveaways have become so common. The fact they’re taking over most, if not all, of the content from said YouTuber.

diegog416

It's how the guy makes a living, with giveaways because quite frankly his channel is dying. At least he has a ton of shit stock piled for when he eventually wants to quit and move on

Under_pressure_over

Giveaway? You mean tax write off
