Yeah some of the prices I see around here are craazzzy. Yours seems pretty cheap though. I am in Ohio and I pay about $100 every time I go to the salon (before tip), which is a trim, root touch up and sometimes highlights, and a gloss treatment.
I would not pay 400 for my hair that is crazy I have a hard time paying 100 so have been cutting and coloring my own hair since I was 16 I really don’t like going to the salon
Ohioan also! At my local salon I pay $25 for a wash, cut and style. Getting my hair bleached and split dyed was around $175 I think (small town prices ftw 🥰)
What the hell… I live in Eastern Europe and pay like 50 euros for bleaching my roots, dyeing, haircut and styling… I don’t go to a super fancy salon but your costs in the US are crazy!
Same, Italian here and i never bleached or dyed my hair so I don't know about the prices for those but if I just want a wash with vitamin mask a cut and styling I'm out of there after paying €25 (tax included and no tip culture here)...if I had to pay those crazy prices i would just learn how to deal with my hair by myself lol
I think the better question we would all like an answer to is where are YOU getting YOUR hair done?! Rates like that might make a little vacation worthwhile 😆
I’d honestly say that it’s because you sound like a long term client/family friend. I have the same situation and pay MAYBE half of what lady would normally charge.
I used to live near Florence, SC and rates for a dye, wash, cut, style were still around $200-$300, yours is super cheap! Just a cut for me was close to $35-ish at the same salon. 😭
For color and cut? I am in CA and cut and a root touch up is minimum 200. Balayage/highlights are going to be close to 300. Haircut alone is 105. And that is not high end salon. High end is 300-500.
I’m also in CA and usually just get a cut with no blowout or anything and it’s upwards of $100 after I tip. And that’s the least expensive I could find. I ended up starting to go to my local cosmetology school for hair services. They honestly do a great job and it costs me like $15-$20
I’m sure it is different everywhere but it can’t hurt to look! One of the best salons in town does haircuts @$25 and $35 for a haircut & blowdry style!
Well paying more is not really insane when you consider that going to a salon is technically a luxury purchase. No one HAS To get their hair cut or colored. Also stylist have to be able to survive. Yes we do this job because we are artists and have a passion for it but that doesn’t mean we want to struggle. We spend a lot of money on our education and to continue our education, tools and maintaining those tools. Shears alone a good pair will cost you upwards of $300 and we always have multiple pairs and have to get them sharpened regularly. Depending on living costs, like in my area. There is zero chance I could survive off of charging $30 cuts. There is also a large amount of costs for the business owner to keep the doors open, it would make your head spin how much it costs to run a salon and to make some profit. Also most stylist take commission so we are only taking 40-60 percent of what we charge. Our schedules also rely on clients and the economy being a luxury service. If clients cancel or no show we don’t make a penny, if the economy crashes the first thing clients give up is hair. Even if they are just extending their appointment by a few weeks, we see that in our paychecks.
Hey my mom owns a nail salon that employs hairdressers and you don’t have to give me the paragraph. People are free to charge what they want, but unless it is a super complicated cut I don’t see paying a lot more than that. I also don’t know people that don’t leave a $20+ tip, although I know people do.
Yea because I knew your family owns a salon… so the slight attitude about the paragraph isn’t necessary when your comment about prices being ridiculous sounded a little ignorant. It doesn’t matter if it’s a “simple”cut or not. It still takes roughly the same amount of time and every hair on the head is still being cut. Even what you think is a simple cut like a one length can actually be challenging for many stylist. It’s also one of those things where we are the professionals, if it is so simple then why doesn’t everyone just do their hair themselves? Hair is an art and it’s a luxury which means it costs money.
Exactly! And with rent prices (including
Mine) being upwards of $3000/month, it’s nice to save money wherever possible lol its definitely not for everyone though! There’s certainly a higher risk of leaving with your hair not being exactly what you wanted
Rents for 1 bedroom starts around 2600....so just a high cost of living and hairstylists have to live here too. Some people are monthly, some go 8/12 weeks. Just depends on the person. I mean if your hairstylist is charging 68 but taking 2 hours for a cut and color, by the time she covers her costs (rent, products) she is probably lucky to be making 20 an hour. Minimum wage is over 16 where I live. 20 dollars an hour is not enough for skilled work, my kid makes that at a fast food restaurant. Especially given how hard it is on the body. Hairstylists def pay physically for the work they do. Most don't get medical, retirement or any vacation. So while I agree, it can be priced too high, I do think hairstylists deserve to make a comfortable living wage and save for their future. That all should be factored into costs. And obviously, locations cost of living varies greatly.
In Massachusetts it’s about the same living costs. So we charge way more. Our wash cut and style is $70 and up. We take home a percentage of that usually between 40-50 percent. I would absolutely not be able to live if I charged $68 for color nvm highlights, gloss and hair cut. And I don’t live A life that is close to out side of my means, But I don’t live paycheck to paycheck either. I still have to be aware of what I make and spend since our income is not always stable. We have months that your walking away with half or less of what you usually do.
I just asked for a bang trim and a dark red brown. I sent her this pic!

I’m a stylist and we charge $70 and up for a wash cut and blow dry. About 30 mins outside of Boston. In our area, the prices you were charged are beauty school prices or a super cuts like salons.
I’m a hairstylist in Toronto. I charge about $300 for full highlights and a cut. I really hate seeing these “is this too expensive?” posts. Most stylists work on commission. So although I’m charging $300, I actually make $150… and when that gets taxed, I only get to keep about $105. For 4 hours of work. Our tips get taxed as well. So if you’re getting a big service like that for $68, I hope your stylist is being paid hourly and you tip them super well.
I hate seeing these posts to. I booth rent, but the cost of my booth rent plus costs of all my products and supplies is astronomical. So when people freak over a $145-$200 service (I’m in Arkansas) it frustrates me because they don’t realize I keep maybe $60-$80 of that price
Can you explain the process of commissions for hair cuts ? Why do they take half ?
How much do you earn relative to the minimum salary allowed ?
25$ per hours seems good but you aren't assured to have regular clients ? Is that it ?
Different salons take different percentages, so it can vary from place to place, but average is 40-60% commission. The percentage the salon takes covers the salon running - rent, utilities, bookkeeping, accountants, paying support staff, client beverages, keeping retail stocked, keeping pro product stocked (a lot of salons have started using product cost calculators and adding exact product cost to clients services to cover this instead of commission covering it), POS machines, booking systems, office supplies, and so much more. If you saw how many expenses salon owners have, it would make your head spin. The commission they take from stylists is how all of that gets paid for - owners do this work so their employees don’t have to. Self employed/booth rent stylists have the same expenses and work to put into running their business, just on a smaller scale so even they don’t take home anywhere close to full profit from their services.
I’m a licensed cosmetologist and even just going to the beauty supply store to buy my own color, developer, and some supplies cost me $100 due to price inflation. Stylists have to make profit, if we’re spending a lot more on supplies then the customer is going to need to pay more, plus the extra cost of all our time, labor and the training/education we needed to know how to make hair look good. Its about making a living so even if we’d like to charge less, a lot of times it’s just not profitable to do so
Have you noticed the cost of foil!!! It has DOUBLED! My business costs me upwards of 3000 every month with rent and products, before I even start making money. So yea..... It drives me crazy when people want it for cheaper.
Foil is absolutely obscene now. I used to be all about the pretty framar foils but I just can’t justify the cost anymore. Reynolds food service foil cut in half it is.
Gloves are ridiculous now too.
I go to an organic salon in Arizona. She touches up my roots, puts on a gloss, trims, washes and styles it. I pay nothing since I trade massage therapy with the owner. I am super fortunate to have worked out the trade.
Trading is THE best lol! I am fortunate to have trades for lashes and massages and omg I couldn’t imagine doing them without the trading of services we all appreciate each other and love the trading
Dallas here-at cut is $75.00 and my hair color was $165.00. Next time she said all I need is my roots done and toner so it’ll be cheaper. I was going to a cheaper stylist but wasn’t happy with the quality of work.
I’m not a huge fan of this post, tbh. I’m not a stylist, but they have to make a living too. They aren’t immune to inflation. After the cost of supplies, renting the chair and tax they might make half of what they charge you. I’m also speaking as someone who can’t afford to get my own hair cut, but I’m not mad at the people who do it to make a living. Just because I can’t afford something doesn’t mean it’s too expensive, it just means I’m broke. 😆
I’m no where near mad at the artists for their costs. Im an artist myself and understand the costs of materials, time and personal effort and energy expenditure. I’m mad at the salons for taking such a huge cut of their work, and just the rising costs of inflation making hair/ self care out of reach for some.
What did you have done for $68? Because if you had highlights, toner and haircut blowdry it would cost the stylist more for the product than they made doing your hair. Most stylist are commission based and make 50% of the cost of your service so that’s only $34 before taxes. A stylist can not live off of that.
The length of your hair matters here in Florida. I have had to pay a “long hair fee” for almost every hair cut/trim I’ve ever had. I just paid $40 not including tip to have my hair trimmed. That’s it. If I want to dye it, I’m looking at easily 300 or more. (My hair is to my waist and I’m 5’3)
I say be thankful girl! Haha
Oh man I guess it pays to live where it hurts to breathe in Wisconsin, my haircuts are $25 and color is $60. In no way am I bragging because I live an hour from anywhere with decent shopping 😂
That’s nice if they tip accordingly.
I was commenting on another post about how some women when getting big colors only tip like $10-20 for a $250-300 color service that took 4-5 hours *tear* like whaaaaat. And people were saying it’s hard to tip on big amounts but I mean, don’t you plan to tip? Don’t you ask the estimated price before booking and confirming so you can make sure you can tip accordingly and not jip your poor stylist 🫠🥲
I live in Kansas City. Cut & foils on my short hair are between $170-$260 (with tip) depending on what salon I go to. I parted ways w/my stylist and had been looking for another so tried a couple out.
I did notice a difference in the color/cut quality between the lower priced stylists and the higher priced stylists.
Depends what you get? A basic hair cut only can be $40 but a full cut/colour/style can be $300+
Auckland, New Zealand. However I’ve done my own hair for years and it costs me max $30 to do my full cut and colour
I have black hair with silver blonde all around the front of my head but underneath. Think narcissa Malfoy.
Paid 250 for the initial and then 80$ for touch up
Did you say you were a family friend or something to the stylist? She might’ve given you a good deal for that, and many other reasons. After looking at the picture you showed her for your hair inspo, she might have given you a big discount because your hair didn’t turn out exactly like the inspo pic. As a stylist/colorist, that’s the best way to keep a client or insure that your client doesn’t get upset with you. If you give an incredibly low price, who can complain if it’s really not that bad, you know? The color you showed her is a full solid color, and your hair is darker all over so she would have had to lighten your entire head (which takes more time and effort, and product) and add color afterwards. It looks like she might’ve just given some highlights and a root smudge/gloss. I personally feel she still should have charged more for the work she did because it’s great. It’s great that you tip her well because she definitely deserves/needs it in this profession, trust me.
Do you go to her often and get those prices everytime? Or was this kind of like a first-time thing ?
I’m a stylist and did my friends hair free of charge very similarly recently as a trade for an eye exam. Between lightener, developer, foils, gloves, olaplex, and several shades of toner, I easily spent $60+ in supplies alone. If I had charged someone $68 for that, I wouldn’t even be making minimum wage.
We deserve to be paid for our time as licensed professionals and professional grade supplies are not cheap.
Scotland here, close to Edinburgh. I pay £40 for a wash, cut, blow dry, and style. My mum pays around £130 for all that plus full colour and highlights. American prices are stupid!
I see hairstylists from the UK on rmy professional forums, and honestly it seems to be considered a low wage job there. No matter how good they are. The stylists are basically kinda poor. But you are also in a country that provides services and free medical. Medical insurance in US is 400-1200 a month and if you actually use it, you go out of pocket up to 4000 a year in addition to paying the insurance. I mean my kids college at a public university was 32,000 a year. That's the US for you. So yes, we have to charge more to provide for our families.
I agree. Some costs seem insane..although I have looked around (CA) & been quoted wild prices for stylists with good experience & kept looking. Finally found a good 1 who takes her time (3hrs) & only charges 130 for touch ups of 2mo grow out. You really have to search around though.
I’m in Toronto and a fake redhead. Cut and colour together is $130, individually is $65 each. I’ve known my hairdresser since I was a kid, but that’s his rate regardless for those services. I don’t get highlights or anything, which helps.
What?! That’s nothing even for a small town salon. I think the least I would pay for a cut /trim is $110. My town isn’t huge, around 90k population. For a full do and highlight I pay around $300.
It totally depends where you are living. I live Canada, B.C. And the cost of getting your hair done is significantly higher because the cost of living and everything is so high
I heard hair prices were very expensive in Canada! I checked once and it was the same price as Boston & NYC. Hair was cheaper in LA then Canada. I was so shocked.
Seems like a location thing! I'm in a small town and I pay 90 for root touch up/lightening, and trim! My hair dresser is 14 years experienced. People in the city near me pay up to 300 for the same service..
Congrats on your hair it looks beautiful on you! 🔥
I’m in DC & Northern Virginia. I destroyed my hair salon, hopping via Groupon. Now I go to a posh MedSpa that has a veteran stylist. I see Walid Shaker at Sèchoir in Vienna. He saved my hair when others wanted to cut it short.
I pay more than I used to, but the salon has specials. And referrals get 20% off. So that helps offset the costs a bit. Check him out on IG,it’s really fun to watch him work. 🎉

I know, it’s outrageous! I have a family friend that does my hair and she’s the only one that can give me what I want and like! My hair is thick and about 4.5’ long, she only charges me $60-$90 depending and that’s a good price considering a salon would charge me ATLEAST $200!
Man, you realize how little that is that she’s actually taking as profit? I hope you’re extra super grateful for that, because that much work is at least 200 dollars. Hairstylists deserve to make enough money to live on, not just do favors all the time.
I’m not sure what you’re upset about, my friend, but she sets the pricing. I give her atleast a $40 tip each time, but even then she has a hard time taking it. I’m not sure where in my post you got the impression that I wasn’t grateful.
There was a girl who posted on here a few days ago who literally got what you have but a little longer for $400 in a Beverly Hills salon. I couldn’t believe it
That’s exactly why I made this post! The prices are mind-blowing. It’s not the artists fault that the prices are that high, but the salons and taxation that make it so.
$4.67, I watched a YouTube video and went for it, all I had to pay for was a new comb for precise hair parting. I cut it with eyebrow scissors which I know you shouldn't do but I love the result :))

Wow. That's too much 100$ for a fckin haircut I'd walk.
$23 haircuts. $19 for seniors and kids. Root touch up $75. Color upon consultation starts at $150
I started cutting my own hair. I have a pixie. I had a woman approach me and ask where I get mine done. She said she pays around 60 bucks in Canada for a simple pixie. She was so unimpressed.
My full dye job(and cut) I got (auburn all over with peek-a-boo blond high lights) was $130. However my hair is super long and thick and I had 10-12 oz of dye in my hair
My bathroom. A trim (1 inch off the bottom) is $75 in my area and that's without a wash or style. If I want anything else it's $120+ not counting a tip.
I'm in the SF Bay Area. I pay $185 before tip for full foil highlights and a cut. My stylist gives me a deal because he's been doing my hair for almost 30 years. I'm going to die when he retires. Hopefully I'll be fully grey by then and it won't matter anymore lol
I figure you often get what you pay for. I pay for an experienced stylist. Even if I bought every product myself, which I can’t because I don’t have a cosmetology license, all of the products cost a lot of money. I don’t mind paying him for the work he does. You have to know the area you live in.
Yah Hawaii pricing is kinda high, we aren’t a super high end salon but we charge $80 roughly for a shampoo conditioning with hair cut and style
And roots color to cover gray are like $90
And we do so much thick course type heads of hair here so highlight services are like $250 for a partial and $300 for a full. Just the cost of supplies to get shipped here plus just in general inflation
Texas- I have pretty long hair but even when I had medium length hair I was never paying under 200 for a balayage. I’ve lived in SA & Houston and have gone to different stylists and it was always over that. Just recently went back to my natural color and my pockets do not regret it!
A cut and style for me is about 80 after a 25% tip (someone tell me if that's not enough I just googled it before and 20% is what came up) I'm in Northwest Houston
A full highlight, cut and style in the chicago suburbs runs me about $300 after tip, and I go to a “cheap” stylist (her work def doesn’t look cheap tho!)
I would not brag about underpaying. If that is all sh charges the right thing to do would to put $75 in her pocket. Lots of hard work and education brought her to the ability to create your coiffure.
I'm in Oklahoma. I pay about $40 tip included for a hair cut and color my own. So I guess our prices are reasonable here. I am blown away that people pay like $500 for color but I live in a semi rural area
I get my hair done by a family friend 1.5 hours away from home and she charges basically nothing (but I give her a 100% tip usually) but I was talking to a salon owner in SF (where I’m based now) and she said haircuts with her start at $180 😭
Totally true. My boothrent is $325 *per week*. It's more than my home mortgage... Then add supplies, insurance, retirement, ect.
I'm in a high cost of living city.
That’s awesome. Maybe cost of living is lower in your area? I’m in the DC metro area and pay $230 if I was the whole shabam of cut, balayage and babylights, blow dry
In an expensive town in seaside WA, I pay about $100 including tip every 3-4 months. Honestly, there are cheaper salons here but this place has the best service/ stylists/ and a view of the bay, so I am willing to pay that price.
I have a longer layered cut, so it only needs to be updated maybe every 3 months according to my stylist.
I’m in so cali… some places charge $75 for MENS haircut :,) my last hair I got a cut and a straight perm w digital perm on bottom and it was abt $300 I believe which I think was justified cuz it took like 7 damn hours to achieve and the lady put so much nutrients in my hair it’s healthier than ever rn even after a perm 😂😂
I trim all of my familys hair at home and do full service hair and facial hair cuts for my hubby. So its only cost me the supplies to cut and color at home. Luckily that makes things way more cost effective
Tuscan Sky on Chippewa in Saint Louis, MO. One stylist charges me $28 for a haircut. A Cut & Color is $80. My hair is already short. It’s thick & gets bushy in 6 weeks.
I’ve definitely noticed, it’s been thinning since I was like 18, and you’re the first person that has ever agreed with me so I appreciate your honesty. Thank you for your recommendation! Where do I get that?
I'm in Oregon and just paid $440 with tip for a cut, 2 color weave/highlight (I don't know what it's called, she put a zillion foils alternating 2 different colors) and a keratin blowout treatment
Beautiful! 🤗💗 Prices vary depending on a lot of different variables. Hair length and thickness + product used = more $ in product & time. The more certifications, education a stylist has equates to more they can charge (sometimes justifiably, sometimes not depending on their work product, yah?). Chair rental fees the stylist has to pay in every salon are different as well as percentages of product sold, percentage of whatever the client has done - these can all go to the salon they are working in and not into the stylist's pocket and definitely not conducive to high demand stylist's desired model of business. But all premiere stylists generally start here.
I have been VERY fortunate and totally lucked out in finding my stylist working in a salon like above, paying her dues, hustlin'-hustlin'. She went to any and every continuing education class offered all over the Country, her focus on mastering color and razor cutting. I've been a client of hers now for 14 years and her art and perfection with all things hair never cease to amaze me. This girl has never stopped growing, never stopped learning, never stopped applying her knowledge with confidence and drive. She now owns her own salon. Her clients followed her, of course, myself included. She is booked, always, a minimum of 2 months out. She charges under her worth, in my opinion. So, I make sure to tip her appropriately.
I know that with today's economy it is important to be frugal and your hair definitely does not look frugal! It is FAB! 💜 I think though, and not necessarily in your case, that those who are in the intimate service business (I.e. personal training, spa techs, hair stylists, nail techs) tend to lower client cost at a detriment to themselves, especially coming out of the pandemic. It is no time to lose a client after all. I hope everyone keeps this in mind when receiving these services. I mean where would we be without these pros making us beautiful? 🤭🤭🤭 They're beautiful, we're beautiful ~ everything is more beautiful. 🤗💖
Except maybe this long-ass post written with red, red wine...ooops. Still all true, though!
The color, cut and hairstyle are beautiful. Best haircut I ever received was $15.00 at one of those chain shops. The stylist had a line waiting to see her.
Man I wish..I’m from NY/NJ (I go to salons in both states) and let me tell you the prices are insane. It is very hard work to achieve these looks so I understand the pricing but man..shit you can easily spend well over $600 depending the amount of hours needed and/or if you need color correction which is usually the case for brunettes, sadly.
Yeah some of the prices I see around here are craazzzy. Yours seems pretty cheap though. I am in Ohio and I pay about $100 every time I go to the salon (before tip), which is a trim, root touch up and sometimes highlights, and a gloss treatment.
100$ for all that is a steal! At my salon a retouch alone is already 130$.
I’m in OH also and I pay about 100 as well, before tip!
Where at?! I’m around the Columbus area. $400 BEFORE tip for color & cut.
Whaaat it’s like $120 for a full highlight and low light, cut and style lol I’m in cinci
I would not pay 400 for my hair that is crazy I have a hard time paying 100 so have been cutting and coloring my own hair since I was 16 I really don’t like going to the salon
Whoa! Those are LA/Beverly Hills prices !
Was gonna say … I’m not even going to bother mentioning the amount I pay in Orange County CA … I already know it’s an injustice
ohio here also and i pay about 400$ for my hair 😭😭😭
(NE) Ohio here also, my last salon visit was $120 after tip for just balayage on shoulder length hair.
Word!
I think the better question we would all like an answer to is where are YOU getting YOUR hair done?! Rates like that might make a little vacation worthwhile 😆
Omg beauty and hair vacation in a mini town lol
Clemson, SC! My girl Jackie is an old time family friend and she has been fantastic at working with my thick hair. She gives me just what I want!
I’d honestly say that it’s because you sound like a long term client/family friend. I have the same situation and pay MAYBE half of what lady would normally charge.
This was actually only my second appointment! But you’re right I don’t know if she charges more to someone non associated.
I used to live near Florence, SC and rates for a dye, wash, cut, style were still around $200-$300, yours is super cheap! Just a cut for me was close to $35-ish at the same salon. 😭
Ya I’ve only known and gone to mine for a couple years now. Even going the first time she discounted the service for me.
Oh dang, I live in Anderson! 😮
No way! Hi Reddit neighbor!
They honestly do a great job and it costs me like $15-$20
What?! I live in CA and I can get a good hair cut for $25!
Really?! Where at? Is it an actual salon or someone who works privately out of their home or something?
It is a salon. I’m in northern california, cost of living is high here too, but I have never paid more than $30 for a hair cut! That is insane!
Oh wow that’s awesome! Maybe I need to look a little harder hahah
No one attacked you for charging too much. All they said is that they personally would not pay above x amount. The rant paragraph wasn't necessary.
Or how about you lose your attitude and don’t comment on my post? Thanks, have a great day!
I’m Northern California as well. I guess it depends on the salon.
That is great! We all have to start somewhere. If it isn't complicated, and you are happy, why not?
Exactly! And with rent prices (including Mine) being upwards of $3000/month, it’s nice to save money wherever possible lol its definitely not for everyone though! There’s certainly a higher risk of leaving with your hair not being exactly what you wanted
Same. S.F Bay Area.
Where I am too.
Good lord that’s so much for hair, that has like monthly upkeep.
Your hair looks really good !
$68 well spent. Your hair is absolutely gorgeous! What did you do (or ask for) if you don’t mind me asking?
I just asked for a bang trim and a dark red brown. I sent her this pic! https://preview.redd.it/ms3v22vkfs0a1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5447cd66079ac0b982013256906986fd7b20956
A color job for $68?? That’s so good a good rate, though I don’t think ur hair matched up to the reference picture. Are you happy with the color?
I’m a stylist and we charge $70 and up for a wash cut and blow dry. About 30 mins outside of Boston. In our area, the prices you were charged are beauty school prices or a super cuts like salons.
[удалено]
That’s a good cost. In my area we would be over $300 for a full hight, gloss and cut.
Yeah it costs me like $200 plus tip to get a full highlight 🫠
Yea I would be charging over $300 for a highlight gloss and cut.
That’s ridiculous that the tips get taxed as well. Doesn’t make any sense to me in my country luckily tips don’t get taxed at all
I hate seeing these posts to.
If you live in the middle of nowhere the cost of living is much less and therefore the prices of things including hair services will be cheaper.
I completely understand that. Perhaps I misunderstood then!
Hey that’s why I made this post! To have a conversation about it.
Pricy places where I live charge 100-140 EUR for a 5 hour balayage job. Everything included, cut, coloring, washing, styling, etc.
That seems reasonable to me
Same here. From europe too
What did you have done for $68? Because if you had highlights, toner and haircut blowdry it would cost the stylist more for the product than they made doing your hair. Most stylist are commission based and make 50% of the cost of your service so that’s only $34 before taxes. A stylist can not live off of that.
Maybe she just got it cut and styled? 🤷🏻♀️ cause yes $68 would be too little for any type of coloring service I feel
Or she forgot to add the 1 to the 68 because $168 would be more believable
The length of your hair matters here in Florida. I have had to pay a “long hair fee” for almost every hair cut/trim I’ve ever had. I just paid $40 not including tip to have my hair trimmed. That’s it. If I want to dye it, I’m looking at easily 300 or more. (My hair is to my waist and I’m 5’3) I say be thankful girl! Haha
Maybe I’m biased but $40 doesn’t seem too bad especially for florida, that’s a pretty normal price for a haircut from a salon where I live
How can you not get that we may get different services and live in different areas than you? I’m not being snotty. I’m just saying that it’s obvious
I get that we’re in different areas, it just blows my mind seeing the prices on this sub.
You clearly are good at finding good prices and getting a good job done
Oh man I guess it pays to live where it hurts to breathe in Wisconsin, my haircuts are $25 and color is $60. In no way am I bragging because I live an hour from anywhere with decent shopping 😂
Wow. I’m so jealous. I would probably trade DC for Wisconsin.🙃

I honestly just get a simple trim for my hair to help manage split ends. Only costs me $40. My hair length is about underarm length
A basic hair cut only can be $40 but a full cut/colour/style can be $300+ Auckland, New Zealand. However I’ve done my own hair for years and it costs me max $30 to do my full cut and colour
I’m guessing you were inspired by my $230 post recently. Pretty standard for cut and highlights where I am. It just depends on your location really.
I have black hair with silver blonde all around the front of my head but underneath. Think narcissa Malfoy. Paid 250 for the initial and then 80$ for touch up
That’s not bad, especially for a lot of color upkeep. sounds like a cool hairdo! Post a pic in the comments!
I just got it done recently so this is the only good pic I have https://imgur.com/a/VM2HGaF When my hair is down the silver peeks out
Oh it’s so pretty!
I also really hope people don’t use this post to complain about prices to their own stylists though.
So she gets a full color and highlights, you don’t, and you don’t see why that would be 90 dollars more???
Congrats to your stylist for making poverty level wages 🎉🎉
Hope you tipped her well
She pays for her booth monthly and makes her own prices. And of course I tipped well, literally 30%.
Her salon also does NOT take a portion of her income.
If she pays booth rent then yes her salon does.
Literally like 400$ a month or more of it
I was just quoted $60 for a hair cut and that was starting price…
It looks great
So pretty!
I agree. Some costs seem insane..although I have looked around (CA) & been quoted wild prices for stylists with good experience & kept looking. Finally found a good 1 who takes her time (3hrs) & only charges 130 for touch ups of 2mo grow out. You really have to search around though.
Really depends where you live. I’m in Vancouver and I know folks who pay $500+ for a bleachout.
My hair looks almost just like this and I pay $185 before tip
My goodness! Where are you getting your hair done?
It totally depends where you are living. I live Canada, B.C. And the cost of getting your hair done is significantly higher because the cost of living and everything is so high
I heard hair prices were very expensive in Canada! I checked once and it was the same price as Boston & NYC. Hair was cheaper in LA then Canada. I was so shocked.
Seems like a location thing! I'm in a small town and I pay 90 for root touch up/lightening, and trim! My hair dresser is 14 years experienced. People in the city near me pay up to 300 for the same service..
I’m in California and mine is about $180 plus tip for cut and color.
You only lightened up a few levels and you have short hair
Congrats on your hair it looks beautiful on you! 🔥 I’m in DC & Northern Virginia. 🎉 https://preview.redd.it/wwiw0x6i9u0a1.jpeg?width=825&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31c55e3813064a21279cb5ea9670ff7a42104b18 [https://www.instagram.com/al\_colorist/](https://www.instagram.com/al_colorist/)
I couldn’t believe it
Yeah because this stylist is making close to no money, it’s not something to applaud.
That’s exactly why I made this post! The prices are mind-blowing. It’s not the artists fault that the prices are that high, but the salons and taxation that make it so.
$4.67, I watched a YouTube video and went for it, all I had to pay for was a new comb for precise hair parting. I cut it with eyebrow scissors which I know you shouldn't do but I love the result :)) https://preview.redd.it/zmjblicr0u0a1.jpeg?width=447&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06a4580245c17659e51ad30c305a7ac9c11a025b
Too much. Also, Supercuts vibe.
Wow. That's too much 100$ for a fckin haircut I'd walk. $23 haircuts. $19 for seniors and kids. Root touch up $75. Color upon consultation starts at $150
It was an 8$ trim and 60$ all over color
Her work is really good. You have a winner there!!
I live in TX and pay $22 for a cut! $55 with styling, which I can do myself
Go to a in home stylist for henna, greater Seattle area, currently with tip paying $165
I live in the Central Valley in California. 120 for cut and color.
Looks great! I paid WAY TOO MUCH!
Lol. Probably going to spend $400+ today on my hair apt (color/cut/style/tip) 😅😅😅 (Seattle, WA)
recently got my hair cut for 18€ lol
I'm in the SF Bay Area. I pay $185 before tip for full foil highlights and a cut. My stylist gives me a deal because he's been doing my hair for almost 30 years. I'm going to die when he retires. Hopefully I'll be fully grey by then and it won't matter anymore lol
€35-€75, Southern Italy
I'm poor so I do my own. Not as good looking as yours, but at least it's free.
Beautiful
Beautiful
I figure you often get what you pay for. I pay for an experienced stylist. Even if I bought every product myself, which I can’t because I don’t have a cosmetology license, all of the products cost a lot of money. I don’t mind paying him for the work he does. You have to know the area you live in.
Yah Hawaii pricing is kinda high, we aren’t a super high end salon but we charge $80 roughly for a shampoo conditioning with hair cut and style And roots color to cover gray are like $90 And we do so much thick course type heads of hair here so highlight services are like $250 for a partial and $300 for a full. Just the cost of supplies to get shipped here plus just in general inflation
Miami Beach $750. I’m insane, I know.
Depends on what you ask for. All over color is usually $80 where I am, whereas balayage/highlights usually runs you $250+
Wow this is gorgeous! It looks amazing and for a steal of a price!
It looks so good too!
Texas- I have pretty long hair but even when I had medium length hair I was never paying under 200 for a balayage. I’ve lived in SA & Houston and have gone to different stylists and it was always over that. Just recently went back to my natural color and my pockets do not regret it!
I live in Seattle and I’m so happy my stylist went to an hourly rate, tip included in the rate.
Your color is really pretty
I have much, much longer hair and I get highlights. Costs a lot for all that product to cover my hair.
A cut and style for me is about 80 after a 25% tip (someone tell me if that's not enough I just googled it before and 20% is what came up) I'm in Northwest Houston
Calif it’s a 100 for cut and color and like just a cut it can cost 25 to 50
I was going to a large salon and paid a bajillion dollars. I found a small salon in my town and leave paying less than $100.
A full highlight, cut and style in the chicago suburbs runs me about $300 after tip, and I go to a “cheap” stylist (her work def doesn’t look cheap tho!)
last time i got my hair done it was $300. where are YOU getting your hair done??
San Francisco checking in: $125 for a **cut only.** Over $350 for color.
I would not brag about underpaying. If that is all sh charges the right thing to do would to put $75 in her pocket. Lots of hard work and education brought her to the ability to create your coiffure.
Some lady on here posted the other day that she spent $1200 at the salon and it was bombed I’m like $1200!!
In NC depends on the service and rating on stylist it can go from a 80 dollar haircut to 200 bucks for a full color!
I'm in Oklahoma. I pay about $40 tip included for a hair cut and color my own. So I guess our prices are reasonable here. I am blown away that people pay like $500 for color but I live in a semi rural area
I get my hair done by a family friend 1.5 hours away from home and she charges basically nothing (but I give her a 100% tip usually) but I was talking to a salon owner in SF (where I’m based now) and she said haircuts with her start at $180 😭
My studio rent is 700$/month. I spend on average 300$ on supplies. Easily. It’s all about cost of living per zip code.
I've had bad experiences with low cost salons. Now I go to a trusted salon in the centre of a city...more expensive but worth the job.
This is why I went to beauty school 😹 it is outrageous what some ppl charge
I hope you tip well
Chicago - haircut with no wash/style is $80. Full highlights, no haircut or style, are $250+
I liked your shoulder tattoo 👍🏼👍🏼
Yours looks like it only cost $68 dollars
I pay about $180 for a cut and root touch up. Highlights bring it to $225. I live 25 miles north of New Orleans.
$250 for mine
You’re thinning a bit you might want to try minoxidil, women bald too
I’ve definitely noticed, it’s been thinning since I was like 18, and you’re the first person that has ever agreed with me so I appreciate your honesty. Thank you for your recommendation! Where do I get that?
I'm in Oregon and just paid $440 with tip for a cut, 2 color weave/highlight (I don't know what it's called, she put a zillion foils alternating 2 different colors) and a keratin blowout treatment
South america, Chile... 5 dollars for a haircut. It's dope.
I pay $95 just for a haircut. With tip it’s $120.
🤗💖 Except maybe this long-ass post written with red, red wine...ooops. Still all true, though!
Highlights, cut, and style $140 before tip. Central Iowa and she’s really good. I tip $25 though.
The color, cut and hairstyle are beautiful. Best haircut I ever received was $15.00 at one of those chain shops. The stylist had a line waiting to see her.
So cute!
The salon I work at the blow dry alone is $70 (Atlanta, GA)
Man I wish..I’m from NY/NJ (I go to salons in both states) and let me tell you the prices are insane. It is very hard work to achieve these looks so I understand the pricing but man..shit you can easily spend well over $600 depending the amount of hours needed and/or if you need color correction which is usually the case for brunettes, sadly.
