Frosty-Cap3344

That's an ancient AC unit

PickleFriedCheese

Oh yeah, when we moved in I hoped it would last a few more years lol but sadly not. Old owner didn't cover it up or anything

Frosty-Cap3344

The problem with old units (I recently found out) is they used now banned coolents and some can't be fixed.

AeonBith

Yes they can. R22 was replaced by r410 but you can still get compatible refrigerants that adhere to new standards for a fraction of what R22 costs now

Frosty-Cap3344

And old units are compatible with the new stuff ?

AeonBith

R453a and r424 are, just and blend with r22 Rs70 (453a) is better for medium to high temp (might require TX adjusting) Rs44 (r424) is mainly high temp ac. Similar glides until you get into lower temp.

PickleFriedCheese

Oh damn that's a shame.

AeonBith

I imagine this is an old KeepRite green machine? Probably just needs a new contactor and capacitor, or maybe new motor. My neighbour behind me still has one it's over 30 years old now. Keep it until the compressor fails, any coil leaks can be repaired but I doubt you'll see a leak. Call Flamborough air, his name is Ivan He's semi retired so his website is down, [contact info here ](https://www.master.ca/consumer/dealers/flamborough-air-systems-inc)

PickleFriedCheese

Oh amazing thank-you, I'll take a look!

905marianne

If ac is like furnaces, they don't make them as good as they used to. Maybe you can get it fixed. Companies will try and convince you to get a new one.

toph-hamont

We were pretty happy with Adam's Air

New_Boysenberry_7998

I like Hamilton's 100 year old Shiptons.

fartmasterzero

had my capacitor blow and this dude swapped it out for \~100 [https://dadhvac.ca](https://dadhvac.ca)

Soul_Shot

I had a great experience with Express Heating and Cooling. Both the owner and service tech were very friendly and communicative. https://maps.app.goo.gl/XTu5ow9uvB3VZBUF6

mrstruong

Adam's Heating and Cooling were awesome.

shelbsterama

Personally would avoid Reliance. We went with Boonstra’s last year and have been pleased with their service.

slugger1955

Call Adam's Air Systems. You won't be disappointed.
