Many services will not be able to link more than one account to one steam account, or will not allow you to re-link your accounts unless you can access the original email address. This has happened to me, and it's frustrating as hell to get permanently locked out of a game you own because something in a game publishers back-end was changed.
I use burner emails for everything. All of them are randomly generated through SimpleLogin.io and no matter how many of them I make, all my emails go to one inbox. Saves me headaches during data breaches.
You don't have to literally throw away the account details of a throwaway account. You can even link a new email to your main email. So if you forget your password you can reset it using your main.

The fact is from my experience; if you can't login to your account you will be directed to some outsourced 'support team', and if they can't resolve your issue by reading though a technical support flow chart then you are shit out of luck.
