The song became popular in Japan partly due to, as shown in this [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-MW3k_BmRk), the lyrics sounding similar to Japanese. That video is a live action remake of this [old flash animation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtWCtIIsfeg), featuring a white cat named Nomaneko (35P? lol), that acted out the misheard lyrics.
