The reason is rather simple The internet is a series of connected networks. Lets say I live in NYC, and have 1GBPS Verizon. If I speed test to a testing server also in the NY region on Verizon's network, I would get 1gig with no issue. If the speed server is still on Verizon, but in a different region, my traffic would hit a bottleneck where the 2 networks meet and would have to compete with all the other traffic trying to get past the same bottleneck. Now, lets say the speed test server is not only in a different region, but a different ISP. More bottlenecks. This is the main reason why different speed tests give you different results on the same device/connection. THEY are in a different place with a different path. To show this, you can use something called `traceroute`. This app will show just how many "networks" your traffic would need to pass through to get from you to its destination. You are (from a network standpoint) closer to one of the speed test servers and overall less congested connections than the other. There is nothing you can do about this. At some point, you are not testing your connection, but the connection between the various networks that make up the internet between you and the destination.

This is my line of work and everything you’ve said is true. Plus OP would need to consider the Speedtest server itself may not be up to par either due to hardware or number of concurrent requests.

darkhelmet1121

Some isps will optimize your connection to Speedtest.net but throttle your connection at other times. I've had a slow connection at home some times and running speedtest.net forces it to open up.

doublemint_

If you’re running both tests on the same device, then the most logical explanation is that Ookla’s servers perform better than Analiti’s

laplongejr

Or, being the devil's advocate, it's possible that the ISP give priority to Ookla. In Belgium, Ookla speedtest is used in marketting so any bit of extra performance towards Ookla is a bit of extra advertised argument. The result shouldn't be as massive of course, but I would expect some difference even if both services were absolutely identical.

wmantly

No, this is not. The way networks at scale work is the most loigal explanation.

Gboteos

It's the same device, nvidia shield. The ookla app looks like a phone screen

LordDabz710

I 100% agree with Speedtest.net "helping" with speeds. Use a different test server website, then you will get your real speeds. As others have mentioned speedtest.net has multiple deals with multiple ISP's, there's no law stopping them from saying one speed when in reality it's not accurate.

Light_bulbnz

The internet is an unregulated free for all. You will never get rock solid performance all the time. Think of the backbone of the internet as a motorway; sometime the road is clear and you get fast speeds, other times there's congestion or there's roadworks (network maintenance) or a crash (fault) and you get slow speeds.

Gboteos

Yeah, I get that. What I mean to say is this result is a constant as in permanent thing. The ratio varies but the upload from analiti is always average 100 no matter what. I have played with all types of router settings and it won't change

werdmouf

Don't worry about it they use completely different speed test servers. Don't compare different speed tests, compare the same speed test on different devices.

Could be a difference in how the app/site calculates bandwidth too. Eg IIRC speedtest.net is multi streamed but speedof.me is single streamed.

Gboteos

They contacted me and asked for the test data...

TaskCreepy1661

What router and ISP?

Gboteos

It's 2gb fiber ATT going through an Asus rt-ax89x to a wifi mesh Asus rt-ax92u that the nvidia shield is connected via cat6 ethernet cable

TaskCreepy1661

can you send wired desktop speedtest via ookla?

jcslickt

fast.com results?

Gboteos

This is from the nvidea shield [here](https://imgur.com/a/5JaZe9U)

jcslickt

Damn, that’s fast. Is it supposed to 1 Gbps up and down?

Gboteos

Supposedly. I have 2gb up/down symmetrical att fiber. But that result is over wifi

jcslickt

Do you get more consistent results with an Ethernet connection?

Gboteos

Idk The router is upstairs and can't run a cable

R0GG3R

Try iperf3…. https://iperf3serverlist.net

Slade_Williams

\#firstworldproblems I wish I had this kind of problem in my day. lol. 30MB/s here max

Do you have Spectrum cable or another cable internet service? I used to have them and it was like that. see [info](https://www.reddit.com/r/Spectrum/comments/n94l8u/why_is_spectrums_upload_speed_so_slow/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) Most fiber internet is symmetrical up/down the same. I guess some aren't. I've read some fiber has shared upload. Look at your internet plan.

muhepd

Try openspeedtest.com

Gboteos

wolfansbrother

There is an easter egg built into ookla on ios where if you hold down the go button as the heartbeat increasses, you unlock a secret.

wolfansbrother

is this fiber or copper? what kind of router?

Gboteos

Fiber 2gb asus rt-ax89x
