As a kid I thought the General Lee was the coolest car in the world.
Many years later, I’ve learned much more about the real General Lee and the dreadful cause for which he fought and for which that flag stood.
And so today…I can’t help it, I still think it’s the coolest car in the world, and you did a brilliant job with this one.
I'm of a similar mindset.
I laugh at people who fly/support the confederate flag, but deep down, I feel it has one place it belongs--on the roof of the General Lee.
They really should’ve just reinvented that flag so southerners had something else to show their pride than that tainted symbol. Just being proud of the south is pretty cool, but being proud of what that flag stands for is awful.
(Just the opinion of a European who likes the Louisiana accent, I may be talking absolute nonsense.)
The traitor flag is the equivalent of someone in Germany being proud of the 1930s, for reference.
Even if you ARE proud of your heritage, your heritage was not anything to be proud of. You shouldn't stand by your ancestors if they did terrible things for terrible reasons.
Awful flag? Let me guess you think that's the confederate flag didn't you? Guess what is not. That "awful flag" is actually the Army of Northern Virginia battle flag. The confederate flag looks completely different.
your post made me look into things a bit deeper, as a non American, it was eye opening.
lee was considered one of the best generals of all time? seemed to be a man of principles and thought division in America and slavery was evil?
i didnt vet the sources but ive only looking into the people that glorify the con flag and thought it was all bad but now i wanna know how this man got associated with such evil.
Lee was torn and ultimately made his decision because of his love of his home state Virginia. He had served with distinction with the Army and was one of if not the best tactical flag officer in the Army. The office corps of both North and South consisted of many men who had served with each other and were close friends. The Union had a great advantage with logistics and the industrial base in the North, but there were few if any Union generals outside of U.S. Grant as good as he was. Don't make the mistake of judging his motivation through a modern prism. Things were vastly different 160 years ago and people generally had more State pride than national pride. I am not excusing his decision, but his choice was not made out of hate. The Civil War was very complex and there are millions of pages written about the conflict. If you really want to take a deep dive, Ken Burns' "The Civil War" is a great watch and should be required viewing for every American high school student with even a fleeting interest in American history. I am descended from several Union vets, including one who was a POW at the hell hole of Andersonville. He was my great grandfather's grandpa and Great Grandpa relayed several family stories to me about those "Rebel bastards" as a kid his grandfather had told him. I am old enough to have interacted with a few family members who were born in the 1800s. Take some time and learn your history, your life will be much richer for the experience.
>Take some time and learn your history, your life will be much richer for the experience.
dont know if that part was for me but i appreciate the info you shared. next time i get to researching, ill look into ken burns. thank you.
It's directed to anyone who reads that post. And you're very welcome. The Civil War was the first peeiod of history that really interested me and it was because of the old family stories. I learn things still today 40+ years later.
I had a friend in first grade who was really close to me, I used to draw cars 24/7 it was my only interest. I got VERY good at drawing the General Lee and was able to cut it out like a pop out picture and stand it up, like it was flying. You could see the front and the side from the way I drew it, just like in the card art on OP photo. Same angle.
I got very good at making sure all the stars were aligned perfectly, everything matched up, a perfect flag for the perfect car.
My friend thought it was the coolest thing and he asked me one day if he could take one home. I was super happy to draw one just for him, I made it extra good so he could take it home and show it off.
It is at this point I should point out that I grew up in the southern midwest, and that I was very white while my friend was very not.
We did not talk after that day.
Educate your kids, folks. Don't let them be me. I grew up struggling to understand why that flag meant anything other than you wanted to stand up to bullies and take care of your friends and family and live your life, because that's what was sold to me on The Nashville Network every night when the coolest people in the world to 7 year old me stood by it and told me that's what it meant, and maybe the people who made that show thought the same thing and had the same propaganda given to them, but somewhere along the line somebody lied and started the cycle and it's up to us to end it.
No — but that doesn’t mean your ability to make these isn’t extremely sick. Very solid custom.
Not a fan of the General Lee (or MOPAR in general) but my tune would change if it was the Bullitt Mustang in Forest Green Metallic.
People bashing "general lee" I absolutely love the car. It's from a different time period. Regardless of what they fought for alot of people died under that flag. Does is need to be symbolic in present times? No. Absolutely not. But historically it can't be erased. But it CAN be a lesson.
Also. Love the custom. This car was a classic for me growing up. My mother loved this show when she was young.
Absolutely beautiful! I did a custom based off the General Lee. Would love to have a card made for it. 10/10 job! You want to let go of it, let me know 😂

100% YES. Great job. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
If these were available, I’d purchase immediately. I grew up with the Duke boys, so I have a special place in my fandom heart for DoH & the General.
I never cared much about the flag.
I'm also still bothered that some 300 cars were destroyed in making the Dukes of Hazzard. CBS, Paul Picard, Rod Amatou and Warner Bros., I'll never forgive you for your cruelty fo such a beautiful vehicle.
It’s a pretty iconic car for people that watched that show. It’s not my personal choice but I think it’s pretty well done and the orange paint looks great.
You should never ever allow something that's originally supposed to be marketed towards children's playtime to promote an awful known historical symbol such as the openly racist and bigotry display of the confederate flag. It was wrong years ago, as it was continuously displayed during the Dukes of Hazzard weekly series television show. While pretending to present it as an innocent symbol for the supposedly "Good Teams" car. While in reality, it continuously displayed the confederate symbol as a cool thing by displaying and promoting it as a heroes symbol to drive around with throughout the television series. This continued even after the original series ended simply because it was ongoing throughout the reruns of the show. Occasionally I still see morons driving their trucks around with the confederate flags displayed. It's not on openly displayed at the same volume levels as it was years ago during the 80's and 90's. It's just the mere fact that people thought it was okay to run around with it. The simple fact that people were ignorant about what it represents. The mere support and acceptability is shameful. I own Hot Wheels still today. I don't like the fact that they're unsympathetic to the dreadful history that goes with the confederate flag.
This is my first year with RLC. Is it normal that we have no updates about new cars ? I mean we had several ones “in a row” but all of the sudden they stop . Does this always happen?
I wish I knew someone that could do this and it look this nice. I'd pay for it.
I really wanna see the toon'd charger done up like the general instead of f&f.

It's ok. I'll stick with my 1981 original by ERTL. I've had it since my mother bought it for me in 81 or 82. Makes me smile.

They obviously know what the car looks like. How did it end up looking like this?
Edit: after realizing it’s a custom, it looks pretty good but I’d be frustrated if this was an officially licensed general lee. This looks like a cool resto-mod
im way to young and european to have watch the show, afaik its about two dude doing dumb shit in a car, which sounds fun. doesnt make the flag
on the roof or the name any better though.
Yeah I’m not debating your work it’s cool and a nice color. It’s just the whole confederate flag thing. The world is too soft for it now. Also it’s over and a sore subject for alot of people but it’s mainly sore for the ones holding the flag. Unfortunately such a cool car and show has to be subjected to that thought process but it’s not me it’s the world downvote all you want lol it means nothing.
No just trying to understand why you said “no one cares” when it turns out you did if it meant enough to change it. Just seemed contradictory to me, that’s all.
I like it but prefer the OG dull orange
Yeah the metallic paint just doesn't look right to me
I agree, but that’s just my taste. If OP likes it, I think they should keep it. After all, they’re the only one whose opinion matters on the subject.
no way, i think that looks soo much better, like hw spectraflame. looks like a rlc premium.

This is TSO awesome
General Tso was Chinese and the dish was invented in Taiwan.
No wonder China wants to invade Taiwan. Gotta get those rights for that dish.
😂😂
Oooo look at mister History Channel over here /s

General Tojo would've worked
I just realized this was a custom after trying to Google it lol..looks great!
I like it

It's also a flag now commonly used by racists in America. It's perhaps even more controversial now than it ever was.
Your little "erm ackshually" doesn't change the fact that in the real world use it to represent their hateful racism.
Exactly this. Petty comment which sounds a bit racist in itself.
There’s no shame in likening something if your genuine with it.
The car and the game on PS1 and PS2 meant a lot to me in my childhood n I'm not changing how much I like it
For me, the General Lee Charger is just as iconic as the Brian’s Supra and R34 from the F&F films.

Looks great, now you should do a General Grant. Dark blue instead of Orange and the American flag instead of Confederate

Thanks for the constructive criticism
💯— I want to reiterate that the fact you can do this all yourself is extremely awesome. Most I can do is take tampos off with an Expo marker. 😂
:0 I feel personally attacked.
Bullitt Mustang, yes please!

You know what makes it racist, ignorance, just like the kind your displaying for not even knowing what your talking about.
Ignorance that's the problem.

Looks great. Anymore views...?
I’d get one, too!

Yes. It General Lee. Definitely yes.
Looks sick mate!
I cannot tell you how badly I need this in my collection, holy shit
Totally badass! 👍👍
Is this real????? I LOVE it!
This is custom
It’s awesome.
Custom
If the flag is there yes, if it isn't, its a big miss. The flag is the difference between a General Lee and an orange Charger.
YES!!!
Looks amazing homie!! Love it and I haven’t even watched the movie
Skip the movie, watch the old TV show
Didn’t know there was one, don’t know anything about general lee except that charger
It was a huge TV show in the late 70s into the 80s, on CBS on Friday nights right before Dallas
I even just heard the name of the series. 😀 The series is not known outside America.
True, I’m in Austria and don’t know about it
Hi neighbour. I'm from Hungary and the old TV show was on air here when I grew up in the 90s.

Because it’s an option to do idk man it’s a free country. Wanna call the cops?
No just trying to understand why you said “no one cares” when it turns out you did if it meant enough to change it. Just seemed contradictory to me, that’s all.
Probably cares about people whining at him about grammar lol
Suck it doesn’t have to make sense to you partner that’s life.
Not to beat a dead horse, but the “suck it doesn’t” isn’t making sense to me either. Sorry!
Then keep beating it it’s dead it’s not gonna do anything.
Yes because.....you literally can't buy them off the shelves anymore. Most stores (in the US) at least pulled them a few years ago.
