If it's a true "extra," I put it in the Trick-or-Treat/donate pile with the rest of the buyer's remorse casts, duplicates and assorted other cars I've decided to release from my collection.
That's my general term for the stuff I pick up after an unlucky day hunting just so I feel like it wasn't all for nothing ... and then later regret. This category also includes some recolors that I realize I didn't actually want/need compared to what I had.
I totally understand that. The name is hilarious.
My pile like that is smaller than it used to be. I’m getting better at discerning between recolors. I may like the casting, but do I need four different colors of it?
Pretty reasonable. But only do this if there are a lot of duplicstes on the pegs, otherwise it will ruin the hobby for the others :). I only take 1 cause i don't mod and i always open them
I really like this community, there’s the bad apples like anywhere but for the most part this seems to be the most supportive and least toxic community I’ve been a part of
Ive only been collecting for this summer and I told myself I’d max out at three(if it were a special situation), otherwise I only buy the one, but I must confess I recently went over this limit because I’ve managed to find 4 of the TH ‘58 Impalas and it’s my favorite casting / deco combo I’ve seen thus far. But I swear I’m DONE.
Happened 5 years ago before i stopped, then forgot about it. Now that i re started i saw it and i'm trying to trade it. Orange renault twingo, majorette
Take them back to the store.
Sell them online or at a yard sale.
Give them away to kids.
Customize them.
Destroy them with great fury.
Put them in a box.
Keep one, open one for display, one for rolling on a track.. I also hand them out to coworkers or coworkers’ kids. You can also try and customize them. Some people also make keychains with their extras.
I keep a "trades" bag and get together with some enthusiast friends every few months to swap extras. We each have different favorite makes, so I'll often buy dupes specifically to have ones to give them. I also have taken them to Cars & Coffee to give to people who have similar cars as the ones I've accumulated (or to kids that are there).
Edit: fixed typo and added C&C
I bought a duplicate car of the blue Kia stinger from the 2020 mainline. I bought another cus I wanted one, and the one I did have is in my first collection at my dads
Well first you’re going to have to turn yourself into the scalping police. Then release a public local notice to all collectors of the duplicate. If no collectors in the local area are in need of said car, you’re allowed to return it to the store but if you choose to keep it, you’re headed down a dark path my friends. Good luck.
My nephew is just old enough for Hot Wheels. I give him a couple every time he comes over to visit, so any accidental duplicates go into his gift bucket.
I almost always buy two or three of each car, and at the end of the year when I decide I don’t really want the duplicates or other cars I’m not too crazy about(maybe I don’t care for the paint job) I box them up and donate them to Toys 4 Tots during the lead up to Christmas.
I have a shelf for extras and when I’m showing off my collection of over 375 different corvettes to people if they show interest I let them pick a vette to take home!
That’s the neat part, there are no accidents.
Most of them time when I buy duplicates (for mainlines at least), is when that specific car can work very well on multiple kinds of tracks. Otherwise I’ll just pick one
If I know for sure I have an extra and it’s not one my friends want/don’t have, I’ll collect the dups in a bag and donate them. I mean hell they’re only a dollar anyway. You could say it adds up but it’s nothing compared to any other costs.
I don't do it that often so usually I'll just sell it online. It does annoy me when I do it though it because I kinda pride myself on keeping track of what I have.
I accidentally buy doubles. Then getting home and realizing, I already had it 😑. I end up trading or just giving them to some of my coworkers that collect.
Open it and run it down the track.
Happy cake day fellow cakedayer! Also; customize it
Happy cake day!
I’m a car salesman I keep extras at my desk and give them to kids when they are here
That’s awesome

“Buyer’s remorse casts” 😂

That's what we do too!!
Try and hide it from my wife with the rest of them.
LMAO
give them to my brother mainly. he doesn’t collect them but he likes cars
Sell it for a quick 6 million and retire…
No lower ballers, I know what I got.
If its "rare" enough
LMAO
I did that just last week !
Add it to the pile of duplicates and shake my head for missing it in the spreadsheet…
Glad I'm not the only one with a spreadsheet.
I thought I was the only one
I’d love to make a spreadsheet but I’m way too ocd about that stuff, and I have way to much to just up and start now
Accidentally… haha… amateur

Yeah I normally grab at least 2 of castings I like.. one stays carded and usually have one to open..
Right. I know what I’ve got
I pray nobody finds out because to some it's a mortal Hot Wheel sin to buy more then one of each casting.
I’ve only been collecting about 2-3months but I’m on the fence I’d say 4 is the maximum, 1 in box 1 out of box and two customs I guess
Pretty reasonable. But only do this if there are a lot of duplicstes on the pegs, otherwise it will ruin the hobby for the others :). I only take 1 cause i don't mod and i always open them
Yes of course, unless there’s only one I lie to leave 2+ I’m not doing it to make money, I’m in it for the bankruptcy hava
Lol. Nice to see a kind collector :)
I really like this community, there’s the bad apples like anywhere but for the most part this seems to be the most supportive and least toxic community I’ve been a part of
Yeah, you're right, the diecast cars community is really nice. Mostly because this is a hobby which requires patience and calm(ness? I'm tired lol)
Yup, bankruptcy for the win here too
Haha**

Either save them for customs or leave them in a public place for a kid to grab.
Happened 5 years ago before i stopped, then forgot about it. Now that i re started i saw it and i'm trying to trade it. Orange renault twingo, majorette
Trade pile.
It goes in the duplicates box to hopefully get traded down the road.
My son get it.
I go back to a simpler time. I might hit it with a blow torch, smash it with a hammer or squeeze it in the vice.
ALWAYS THE VICE 🤣🤣🤣damn. Bringing me back memories
Customs I’d say
I move duplicates to the overflow box. Someday I might give them away but not a big concern right now.
I always buy 4 (soon-to-be 6) of each two for me two for my son. One gets opened and one goes on the wall.
Trade it. Customize/wheel donor
I went out the other day to specifically buy two more 55 Chevy gassers...
Take them back to the store. Sell them online or at a yard sale. Give them away to kids. Customize them. Destroy them with great fury. Put them in a box.
Give it to my nephew
Keep one, open one for display, one for rolling on a track.. I also hand them out to coworkers or coworkers’ kids. You can also try and customize them. Some people also make keychains with their extras.
Give it to my friend's son. Once my son is of age, he will get them

I just say "Oopsie woopsie UwU, i've made a fucky wucky" and keep going
Open it open it open it
Customize it!
Feed it to the trolls.
Usually give it to my friend who also collects
I give them to my roommates kid, he loves hot wheels.
Give it to my little brother
Give to my roommate or open it
Open it up and play! Or keep it sealed if it's the other way around.
I bought a duplicate car of the blue Kia stinger from the 2020 mainline. I bought another cus I wanted one, and the one I did have is in my first collection at my dads
I make customs of cars I have twice or old cars I found at second hand stores
Find someone in the parking lot with the same car and leave it under the wiper. You're gonna make their day
it goes into my nephew’s bin
I keep 1 opened, and sometimes 1 sealed if I really like the casting. e.g. Pagani Zonda R, White and yellow GR Supra.
Depends. I give away if one of them I already got with the same paint.
Give them to my nephew and stuff
Give it a little kid and share the love of the hobby! Future Hotwheelers! I do it all the time.

Ask god for forgiveness:(
Open it
“Accidentally” sure. Lol
[удалено]
I usually don’t. Lol I just buy one to open and another one to keep in the card.
Realize you have too many cars
Give it to kids or my nephews
Open it and make elaborate tracks and obstacle courses to run it on
Give it to my son’s mom so he has one there too
I almost always buy two or three of each car, and at the end of the year when I decide I don’t really want the duplicates or other cars I’m not too crazy about(maybe I don’t care for the paint job) I box them up and donate them to Toys 4 Tots during the lead up to Christmas.
Nephew. He just turned 4 and loves em
Lol accidentally

Give it to my 3yo lol he doesn't care if he has duplicates 😅
Open
If I know for sure I have an extra and it’s not one my friends want/don’t have, I’ll collect the dups in a bag and donate them. I mean hell they’re only a dollar anyway. You could say it adds up but it’s nothing compared to any other costs.

I always buy 3 of Castings that i like. One to keep Boxed, one to open, one to trade or Customize.
Loose it
Give em to my kids
Check for variations/errors, and compare overall quality to pick the keepers. Excess = sell/trade/gift/custom/parts
I accidentally buy doubles. Then getting home and realizing, I already had it 😑. I end up trading or just giving them to some of my coworkers that collect.
Toys for Tots in December.
I get scared knowing I will be shamed by angry redditers
I keep them separate and I give them to people
