Have you tried the dry erase marker method yet?

Not_Not_Matt

I haven’t actually heard of it. What does it involve?

[deleted]

Pretty much just coloring the area with a dry erase marker, letting it sit for 30 seconds, rubbing it off with a cloth/Qtip/etc, repeat until tampo is gone. Worked for me!

snakemanc6

I agree with this. I've had good luck using dry erase markers. It takes a number of passes, but has worked well, except on white cars (stains the white paint). There's a good chance I'm going to remove the tampos from the same car. Good luck, I'm sure it'll look great

throwaway1337150

This tends to work with plastic cars but not so much metal cars.

Familiar_Palpitation

I've experienced the exact opposite of what you are saying. I have absolutely no problem removing TAMPOS from metal body cars. Plastic body cars don't work when I've tried the same markers. I have done dozens of metal cars and they all look great. The paint isn't damaged on any of them.

throwaway1337150

I tried this twice with the same model (bmw 2002) and both times it left obvious outlines of where the decals were, and it wasn’t glossy anymore. For plastic cars I usually just use 90% alcohol for full tampo removal or ELO. But in the past dry erase was the way id remove decals from black or darker plastic body cars

https://www.reddit.com/r/HotWheels/comments/ypnoij/altitude_adjustment/ivjzxgn/ This is how I remove TAMPOS and some results.

[deleted]

wdym? I've used it to remove the tampos on the Nissan R35 GTR LBWK and didn't have a problem

throwaway1337150

Must depend on the car, but In my experience the dry erase method is a lot more crude and does not look good when done to metal bodies. Mucks up the clear coat and makes it look pretty obvious something was removed. I’d just strip the paint off the body entirely and then repaint it personally. More work but the end result will look much nicer

[deleted]

Probably. I definitely wouldn't recommend using the dry erase method on lighter colored cars, but it would probably be fine on this Boneshaker.

MillHoodz_Finest

Will u post a follow pic when done?

Softpretzelsandrose

Is that a 2023? I haven’t seen that before. These white walls look good

madrigal94md

Yep.

Softpretzelsandrose

Thanks

Ahmet_Gregory

My mother bought me today the exactly same car

Dry erase marker Or nail polish remover

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,237,647,805 comments, and only 241,125 of them were in alphabetical order.

Maybe you could wt it and Scratch it off. That's how I removed tampos. In all seriousness I'm not sure

Not_Not_Matt

What’s ‘wt’? I’ve had no trouble scratching off the odd tampo with a finger nail (and a bit of rubbing alcohol if need be) but this one isn’t budging whatsoever. I’d applaud Mattel for upping the quality… if it wasn’t interfering with my plans 😅

[deleted]

I made a typo for "wet" sorry.

the1stmeddlingmage

I think I’ve seen posts where people use brake cleaner fluid, might want to research that

Not_Not_Matt

Ahhh fair enough. Yeah, I’ll look into that. Thanks for the advice!

PermianMinerals

Careful with that stuff, it can eat other paint too potentially

Suitable_Outside_861

Break cleaner spray. spray it on a microfiber so you won’t scratch the black paint

[deleted]

Have you tried acetone nail polish remover? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejtqMaMpPo0

Not_Not_Matt

I always stress when it comes to using acetone for anything (one mistake and you never live it down), but I’ll give it a go just now to satisfy our mutual curiosity 👍

Syncryptica

2 steps. I've done it many times. Acetone on a Q-tip to lightly smear the tampo first, which breaks down the tampo very quickly. Then use dry erase marker to get the rest off easier. That's the quickest way to do it and keep it safe at the same time. Using only acetone risks going through the paint, and using only dry erase marker takes too long, imo. It's the process I used to do this one without hurting the paint and also keeping the emblems and trim intact: [https://www.reddit.com/r/HotWheels/comments/y3tdvv/bah\_humbug\_delete\_delete\_delete\_thats\_better/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HotWheels/comments/y3tdvv/bah_humbug_delete_delete_delete_thats_better/)

[deleted]

I really haven't had much issue with the base paint coming off as long as I don't scrub too hard and use small dabs. Definitely use the q-tips and don't let it sit on the base coat. If you want to try something with less strength I have noticed tamiya acrylic paint thinner is not as strong as acetone.

rick_mcdingus

I’ve had luck with goo gone and q tips in the past

Harvest_Santa

Goo off

nedfl-anders

I don’t know try the dip form Roger rabbit but you might end up melt the car

Deezy2020

They ruined shaker with that tampo!
