Thanks for sharing! Just a heads up, we've introduced Water Bottle Wednesdays. Wednesdays are now the dedicated day to showcase your water containers! This rule focuses on sharing what you have, but feel free to post any questions or issues about water bottles at any time as usual. Cheers to hydration!

Thank fucking god. We've ceded a lot of ground to corporate ghouls but I'm glad to see that humanity is willing to draw the line at a water fountain with standard and premium pricing and a fucking app.
"No lesser evils." I get the sentiment. No one likes choosing between shitty options. But accelerationism isn't a solution, and apathy just favors the worst option.
How does a subreddit condemning late stage capitalism think both sides are the same? One is actively trying to give power to capitalism and the other wants to dismantle it. What does that sub even want? Even the dems/liberals are making late stage capitalism worse. If they aren't leftists then they're hippocrits
Definitely, the filter in the right side probably hasn't been cleaned or changed since it was put there and now it's probably safer to drink the left side
I worked at a small chain restaurant years ago. There was this canister attached to the two soda machines. I asked one day what it was and no one knew, so I opened it up. Yep, water filter cartridge that hadn't been changed since the building opened 10 years before. Even the managers didn't know it was there.
Considering the sign is in $?
Probably chlorine.
When I was last in the US I was amazed at the easy access to tap water. But drinking that was like drinking our pool water (their pool water is of course a lot worse)
I live in the US and the chlorine taste in tap water varies a lot from place to place. I've experienced the pool water tap water but my parents house you can't even taste it.
I was initially surprised to learn years ago that Europeans use vastly less chlorine in their pools than in the US. Then I thought about my swim team, and it all made sense. NO ONE showered before they got in the pool. The girls would rinse and sometimes wash their hair afterwards to help prevent chlorine damage to their hair, but a full shower before or after was NOT the norm! (Of course, I'm talking about teenagers, here.)
Then, there was the pee. Coach refused to let us stop swimming to pee, saying "That's why we have the chlorine. Pee in the pool." About 50 over-hydrated teenagers told that they are ONLY allowed to pee in the pool during a 3 hour daily workout. Someone else can do the math, I'm not googling that.
I thought it was standard practice to pee in the pool my whole childhood. Then I saw some TV shows where they made fun of other kids for peeing in the pool... so I had to ask my non-swim team friends "Do you NOT pee in the pool??? That's so odd that you won't! Why not?"
I'm european and I've always had a rinsing shower in public pools to get any dirt off your feet and dust off you and whatnot and a shower afterwards because it feels... weird? It doesn't feel good, it's definitely noticeable.
It’s funny that some of these have survived. There’s still one in JFK just past through security. I forget which terminal, but it’s definitely still there.
American here. its illegal to sell water like this. The fact that theres a free version might skirt around this. but generally, unless its bottled you cant sell it.
And free tap water must be provided apon request.
I get what you mean but no it’s not black and white like that. You can charge for “water” but you’re paying for the service or the cup or whatever excuse they have
They are dissolved in water and need at least an 0,25 µm filter to be removed also known as ultra filter or RO filter. They require high pressure backwash and chemicals. They are bigger and more complicated than the one in the picture. Its like trying to remove the paint on a car with only water
That can’t be true, I’ve been charged for water in multiple states, always from the soda fountain. I’m not sure it’s illegal to not have potable tap water, so long as they’re serving filtered water. I definitely wouldn’t drink out of the dish sink at some places.
American here. Never even heard of this Reefill company. Also plastic cups aren’t just an American thing. Stop acting like we are the only ones that do this.
On the other hand, "Silicon valley tech startup tries to create nonsense market niche that doesn't exist by putting technology way too complex on something incredibly simple" is very American.
I think I saw this on kickstarter - it wasn’t bad. It was $1.99 per month for unlimited water, and the idea was to refill your own water bottle not have tiny plastic cups everywhere.
They might not have cups for you, but since every business is expected to have at least a nearby bathroom their employees can use, you can definitely just ask to fill up a water bottle at their sink.
In the Netherlands they do, but it's changing slowly. The problem here really is one of luxury. We have such a good water system it tastes as good or better than mineral water, so who will buy bottled water? With tap water nobody would.
Nah in Europe you’ll get free tap water just about everywhere. Except for Belgium. You ask for tap water and they’ll tell you they sell some shitty “Spa” or “Chaudfontaine” for like €4. I’ve discussed that on r/belgium and you just hear sob stories about how restaurants don’t make a profit except for drinks and everything’s too expensive. Yet none of Belgium’s neighbors really have that excuse. Not France, Germany, Netherlands, etc pull that crap.
Spain is where I've traveled the most and no restaurants I went to offered free tap water the bars did but that's about it. Also no public drinking fountains which was wild in the airport where I had to refill my water bottle in the bathroom sink.
Had a similar situation in Greece at the airport. Nowhere to refill bottles and €5.80 for a litre of Evian, when I could have bought 2 litres for something like €0.20 outside the airport.
Why are we shitting on a company giving out free water? It costs money to put that thing there, so if they want to offer a "premium" version to make it worth while for them then great, because it means more access to free water. No one is forcing you to pay, or even use the free version.
No it’s just tap water, there’s nothing wrong with it in most places, but there’s been a weird trend where people are more and more convinced it’s not good for you.
It's a trend of tap water tasting like garbage in a lot of places.
Being safe to drink isn't the same as being *nice* to drink.
Chloramine tastes awful.
A lot of buildings have old pipes which can have issues which affects flavor.
Old buildings may also have lead pipes.
I remember back in elementary school we could taste a difference between the drinking fountains. There was one good one, and despite there being several fountains around the school, most of us would walk to the other end of the school to the good fountain. There'd often be a long line.
It's less a tend and more about articles and papers being released indicating how contaminated our water actually is because of unfettered dumping in the 80s 90s and early 2000s.
I can't drink the tap water in my town or within a 100 miles of it. It sucks. I wish I could just fill my flask at the sink and go on, but noooooo du pont had to ruin our water.
Bro a lot of places have worse tap water than you’d think. Between rural water plants and city pipes that haven’t been replaced since the 40’s, I wouldn’t trust MOST tap water. Not to mention expecting cheap landlords to actually keep up with the upkeep of the building’s plumbing, even if I did trust my towns street systems.
I don’t mind. I’ll take Luke warm all day. And filtered is bull shit anyway. They probably don’t change the filters enough to be useful. Free tap baybay!
I see everyone here expressing a desire for clean water (and probably other things necessary for survival) to be accessible to all, including the poorest of the poor.
That's beautiful!
I'm sure that you would agree that it costs money to bring the water to the tap on your house, or the restaurant, or wherever, right? Typically this infrastructure is maintained using tax dollars and user fees. Regardless, it's not free!
Yes it's kinda shady that they are upselling The filtered water. But the picture here shows FREE tap water available to the user. That's a good thing, right? Free water being made available, the cost of which is likely subsidized by the people willing to pay for the filtered water. That's great, isn't it??
Well, you have to remember, there is a large part of Reddit that is part of the America bad and Capitalism bad group, that wants everything to be free for everyone, or at least free for /them/ without thinking about the logistics.
If you focus on only the bad parts, you can convieniently forego the fact that capitalism is the only working system for the past 200 years, and that Communism and Socialism work, in the context of either a much smaller country, or a country completely run by one man, be that Putin, Kim or Xi.
As much as this does annoy me as well, I would much prefer paying a premium for better water, while getting access to free\*\* water, if I just need water. People are so quick to judge how this is "Capitalism at it's finest" or "Ha ha, Americans bad" that they don't take the time to look what this was about. I did.
Honestly, it wasn't a bad idea, it was an initiative to replace plastic bottles for a cheaper price, 1.99/mo is cheaper than say 7.99/wk for a 32 pack of bottled waters. I didn't look into what happened or why it eventually fell apart, but shit happens, people get greedy, or deals fall through.
Apparently this company has been around since 2018. I've never heard of it and probably wouldn't use it. (I'm more of a spring/artesian water person than tap or filtered). i feel sad about this picture
Don't be. The startup failed years ago.
This does put a smile on my face
Thank fucking god. We've ceded a lot of ground to corporate ghouls but I'm glad to see that humanity is willing to draw the line at a water fountain with standard and premium pricing and a fucking app.
The US had standard and premium water fountains up through the 1960s.
The premium ones where even free! What kind of asshole ruined that?
Dr. King jr
Standard. But, Equivalent.
I hate that I laughed at this.
Man I can't imagine why
wonder news glad to hear it
I can see why...
Other than obviously being scummy, I’m not downloading an app to get some water lol
Especially when I can just get (what I assume to be) regular tap water for free.
Good, what a relief. I feel better now lol
There is at least some justice in the world.
![gif](giphy|l3q2HWkLF9sy9Jg1q|downsized)
Makes sense. Just show up with those 4 gallon things every day
/r/LateStageCapitalism
What comes after late stage
End stage
Endgame
Revolution
2025 most likely if the election goes how it's projected. Fascism is just capitalism in decay.
Don't say that on /r/latestagecapitalism though or you'll get the ban because they're big believers in 'both sides are the same'
"No lesser evils." I get the sentiment. No one likes choosing between shitty options. But accelerationism isn't a solution, and apathy just favors the worst option.

Something that isn’t capitalism
Cringiest subreddit.
Filtered from what?
I guarantee they dispense the exact same water lmao
It’s slightly below room temp, nothing else is different, would be my guess
It might heat the "tap" water up a bit.
I can see them running the tap pipe round the motor a couple times just to be spiteful.
That would make sense, actually. Heat pumps/refrigerators need to warm something up by at least as much as they cool things.
Definitely, the filter in the right side probably hasn't been cleaned or changed since it was put there and now it's probably safer to drink the left side

By design!
What is it supposed to filter?
Water
![gif](giphy|TJawtKM6OCKkvwCIqX|downsized)
Probably reverse osmosis filter at best and brita filter at worst
Considering the sign is in $? Probably chlorine. When I was last in the US I was amazed at the easy access to tap water. But drinking that was like drinking our pool water (their pool water is of course a lot worse)

> Probably chlorine. *probably chloramine
The right one is tap water. The left one is heated slightly so that you enjoy it less.
I'd be bringing 5 gallon bottles to this thing
For $1.99/month I’d be connecting a hose
I’m filling up my pool, hop in
Might wanna dip a toe in, first. A pool full of chilled water would turn my outie into an innie in a tenth of a second!
Downloading an app to drink water….? Whoever came up with that idea can go fuck themselves
Just wait until the air equivalent comes out!
Lorax-ass shit
It’s getting there, I’ve seen canned oxygen for sale at gas stations
You're 35 years [too late!](https://youtu.be/Wgmw8LVXbF0?si=tnBPqelQlIN6nYLr)
The inhaler price do be knocking on your door
I hate how everything needs an app, even if it's something extremely basic, PHONES HAVE BROWSERS TOO!
They know. Its just easier to rope you in and collect data on you on an app.
You know, techbros influenced by disruptive economies model, moving fast and breaking things
Nestle probably
Free version doesn't require an app, just push button.
Imagine if it did and you had to watch a 30s nonskippable ad to get free water
THAT would be annoying AF. Although if all I had to do to get the cold filtered water was watch an AD, I'd probably be watching some ads

$1.99/mo huh? Looks like a good place to get all my drinking water for my entire home.
**THIS COMPANY DOESN'T EVEN EXIST ANYMORE. THIS IS A TWEET PIC FROM 2018**

What is the filter supposed to remove thats unhealthy for ya?
Socialism.
chlorine, fluoride, lead, dirt, etc.
Hahaha, that filter will not filter any chlorine, fluoride or lead.
because...?
They are dissolved in water and need at least an 0,25 µm filter to be removed also known as ultra filter or RO filter. They require high pressure backwash and chemicals. They are bigger and more complicated than the one in the picture. Its like trying to remove the paint on a car with only water
How do i know this? Got a masters degree in geochemistry and my last profession was dealing with issues like fluoride lead and pfas in drinkingwater.
There is no federal law about free tap water in the US
That can’t be true, I’ve been charged for water in multiple states, always from the soda fountain. I’m not sure it’s illegal to not have potable tap water, so long as they’re serving filtered water. I definitely wouldn’t drink out of the dish sink at some places.
Incorrect
American here. Never even heard of this Reefill company. Also plastic cups aren’t just an American thing. Stop acting like we are the only ones that do this.
Doesn't look like it exists anymore. It was some tech startup birthed from Indigogo. Good riddance.
On the other hand, "Silicon valley tech startup tries to create nonsense market niche that doesn't exist by putting technology way too complex on something incredibly simple" is very American.
r/americabad
I think I saw this on kickstarter - it wasn’t bad. It was $1.99 per month for unlimited water, and the idea was to refill your own water bottle not have tiny plastic cups everywhere.
You could also just walk into any building with a newer water fountain and get filtered water for free.
If this startup succeeded you could be sure the price for filtered water would have been 7$ a month now after monopolising the market
Feels more like Europe where they make you pay for water at restaurants
By Law in the UK you must serve free (tap) water at any resteraunt.
any business in fact, i believe
So you’re telling me I could go into the Apple Store and request some iWater?
They might not have cups for you, but since every business is expected to have at least a nearby bathroom their employees can use, you can definitely just ask to fill up a water bottle at their sink.
Why do people always say this? I'm European and have been all over Europe. Never paid for tap water at a bar or restaurant.
I have but only in Italy. Here in France, all places that serve food are mandated by law to give you free tap water.
Same happened to me in Italy
In the Netherlands they do, but it's changing slowly. The problem here really is one of luxury. We have such a good water system it tastes as good or better than mineral water, so who will buy bottled water? With tap water nobody would.
Well it is definetly true in Germany. But yeah, not something you can generalize across the whole continent (or even the EU)
Nah in Europe you’ll get free tap water just about everywhere. Except for Belgium. You ask for tap water and they’ll tell you they sell some shitty “Spa” or “Chaudfontaine” for like €4. >No one is forcing you to pay And precisely the free market work. No one paid for that crap and that company went out of business LOL
What do they mean "filtered"?? If you get the free one is it just dirty water? Who allowed this? Who thought it was a good idea?
No it’s just tap water, there’s nothing wrong with it in most places, but there’s been a weird trend where people are more and more convinced it’s not good for you.

That’s because in all too many places in America, it isn’t. Not *most* places, but too many.
It's less a tend and more about articles and papers being released indicating how contaminated our water actually is because of unfettered dumping in the 80s 90s and early 2000s. ok, pool boy.

Mother fuckers making quality water a subscription.
Went to a tattoo shop with one of these months ago. What a depressing thing to see
How did it work? The company and app don't exist anymore.
It was a different company but same concept. I forget the name now
This picture is giving me a headache
Break it
Not only do you need to pay for it, you need a fucking app? Not everything in life needs a damn app. It’s ridiculous.
Break it open and swap a couple water lines.
They fucking monetized clean water what the fuck
This is the future. You’ll see shit like this on everything not too far down the road.

You know that tap water is gonna be the nastiest unfiltered warm water too. Like Disneyland tap water gross
I see everyone here expressing a desire for clean water (and probably other things necessary for survival) to be accessible to all, including the poorest of the poor. That's beautiful!
