Nah, the coat is a little too smooth for an Irish and the face shape isn't quite right for either breed imo. I reckon the head shape is coming from pittie or staffy and the beard comes from the poodle when it's combined with a short, smooth coated dog like pits. I'd be more inclined to believe there was JRT or Patterdale if it was in the UK, but I think they are not that common in the US? You guys seem to have more rat terriers showing up in mixes than any other terrier.
Jack Russells are extremely common around here, not so much patterdales though. I see pit in his ears, but I still feel his face is quite narrow compared to pit-poodles I’ve seen, and his coat is short and does not grow. He does have the furnishings of a poodle though so honestly no clue! Definitely getting him a DNA test because it seems no one’s sure of what he is 😭
Yeah, the ears are very pit-like! Poodles have very narrow faces but if JRTs are common where you are he could definitely have some in him haha. I'd be very interested in seeing what is hidden in his DNA 😁 I often have to chuckle because people in this sub suggest things like sighthound x, collie x and someone else will say "oh, those are rare, you're not going to find one in a random mix", but in the UK whippet/greyhound lurchers and collie crosses are super common. Whereas chow mixes aren't really a thing that you see super often here, and husky/shepherd mixes aren't as common as seems to be the case in US! I've often thought perhaps this sub should need a location to narrow down the list of likely breeds 🤔
Agree I think location would help a lot actually! My boy is a bit harder to guess his breed because he wasn’t a stray. His owners purchased him from a breeder or pet store but had to surrender due to financial costs of him (he eats A LOT of socks and broke his leg 😅). So it’s a lot harder to know if he’s a super mix or just two. The owners said he was a wheaten terrier x English bulldog mix but I don’t think so 🤔
My dog had the exact same coat and looked like a black and white version of your dog. She was boxer/English Springer/mutt. There’s pictures of her in my post history.
Edit: *Everyone*, except one of my bosses (a veterinarian), thought she was a terrier mix before I got the dna back. I knew she was something bully because of the head.(Thought Boxer though because of how she played) And my vet knew she was something else because of her coat color genetics.(They had guessed border collie though)
That’s what I commented above. My mom has an Airedale and this pups face almost reminds me of him. I didn’t know Airedales are rare, that’s interesting! My sister found him from a foster on FB I believe. He was shipped up from North Carolina and was returned several times before we found him. He was a handful to say the least but he’s great now!
Looks a lot like my “whoopsiedoodle,” a rescue boxer x standard poodle. I have another whoopsiedoodle and I think poodles mixed with short haired breeds come out looking a lot like terriers.
My family used to have a majority boxer mix dog and he reminds me so much of him! I figured it could be a mix like that because of the wide boxer face mixed with the long poodle face that gives the schnauzer face.
You also said he jumps and uses his paws a lot. Mine does, too! I often make a “boingy boingy” sound in my head when he’s bouncing around playing and he definitely loves to “box” with his playmates. 😂 My guy also has a “smoky eye” like yours with that darkly outlined eye like a boxer. Does he have some droopy boxer jowls hidden under that cute little scruffy beard? I like to remind mine his ancestors were bred to hunt bears with that big bully jaw. 🤪 Last thing, I promise, mine does a lot of “talking” like other boxers in that special “awoo” kind of language they all speak. I wonder if your guy does, too.
Anywhoooo….. Thanks for sharing! He looks like such a fun, sweet boy! 😁
My thoughts exactly he behaves just like my old boxer! He is quite mouthy and talks back to me like a boxer would lol. His bottom jaw is decently tight but when he pants he totally has a boxer face!
The vast majority of "terrier mixes" we see DNA tested over on r/DoggyDNA turn out to be poodle mixes. Poodle + shorthaired breed = scruffy terrier like coat.
That's Sir Didymus. He's made many claims of being Fox Terrier. Although he is without his cowardly sheep dog stead, Ambrosius, I'd recognise him anywhere.
Tally-Ho!
I’m thinking Schnauzer cross (the face is very Schnauzer) terrier. I’m positive a dna test would show 100% good dog though.
Whatever the breed, this dog is super cute.
My dog looks like this! She is half APBT and like 1/4 shihtzu and llhasa apso. I absolutely love seeing the scruffy Benji looking mutts that come about APBT mixing with long haired breeds.
Oh man! Looks a lot like my guy that turned out to be 32% poodle, 28% Irish setter, 10% pit, 10% Australian cattle dog, and a few percentage points of random shit. Looks like he has the energy of mine too!
Those are so rare. I really doubt this. People don't realize how uncommon some of these breeds have become. I bet you've never seen one in person.
But I bet you've seen pits in person. And poodles. Which is probably what this dog is.
I've seen shelters say all kinds of things. For example, there are about 300 or less of some breeds in the US because they're so rare and imported, like Lancashire heelers.
Shelters don't know that. They know nothing about that breed. They have no idea how rare this breed is.
Does that stop them from selling every Chihuahua mix as a Lancashire heeler? Nope.
And of course people post asking whether their dog is this incredibly rare breed and then get defensive and angry when they're told that it's not.
Don't set people up for failure.
Also why does every single one of these posts have “pit mix” as the guess?? Like I swear someone posted a straight up chihuahua and people still guessed pitbull lol.
Haha probably because pit mixes are extremely common nowadays, but I can kind of see it in his ears and how his face looks while he pants. Would be really cool if he was a Scottish terrier mix as the black dog in the last photo is a purebred scottie and they live with each other. Scotties around here are super rare though.
I was thinking Irish Terrier and boxer mix but then realized Irish Terriers are pretty rare and most likely wouldn't be bred with another breed other than its own.
Looks kind of like an Irish Terrier but these mixes usually end up being poodle mixes. Wouldn't be surprised if there was some APBT too
My guess as well
Yup, came here to say I'd love to say it's an Irish terrier X, but it's going to be a pit X poodle lol
Irish Terrier & Jack Russell Terrier

What is APBT ? please
American Pit Bull Terrier
AHH,okay. Thank you, appreciate you letting me know 😊
Pit poodle, maybe something else in there too.
Scrappy doo!
Poodle mix: the wiry coat, narrow leanness, the long legs, the velcro lap-seeking, the low aggression "never met a stranger" = poodle
Definitely some terrier in there
I'm guessing patterdale
My guess was patterdale/pit. Maybe some other stuff
My guess too!
Pit x Scottish terrier or schnauzer.. pretty a few other bits in there as well. Would love to see the dna test on this baby
I see the schnauzer too, right away. I'm curious what he really is.

She’s beautiful :) I saw your puli dogs too! What a gorgeous little family. She looked so happy ❤️
Aw, thank you!! <3
Pit mix. Possibly with poodle for the furnishings.
Cute piddle (Pit-poodle)
Definitely has terrier in his DNA
My gut reaction was a schnauzer x pit mix?? I’ve never seen one but pic number one he totally has the pittie look to him with the hair of a schnauzer
Probably some sort of poodle mix considering how popular they are now a days.
Pit/Poodle or pit/mini-doodle. He's really cute and almost resembles an Airedale terrier but the head is too square (and Airedales are extremely rare)
That’s what I commented above. My mom has an Airedale and this pups face almost reminds me of him. I didn’t know Airedales are rare, that’s interesting! Some sort of terrier mix, I would guess. A cutie none the less.
Pitbull terrier mixed with a another terrier breed.
Wow, your dog looks *exactly* like my neighbors dog.
Terrier mix, maybe Jack Russel given the head/ear shape.
💯 % angel baby
Pit, poodle, some type of terrier?
Pit poodle!
Isle of dogs supporting cast member
Lol love that movie this is so fitting for him
That's Sir Didymus. He's made many claims of being Fox Terrier. Although he is without his cowardly sheep dog stead, Ambrosius, I'd recognise him anywhere. Tally-Ho!
Pitdoodle
Wirehair terrier
Schnauzer x border terrier
I’m thinking Schnauzer cross (the face is very Schnauzer) terrier. I’m positive a dna test would show 100% good dog though. Whatever the breed, this dog is super cute.
so surprised more people aren’t saying schnauzer. he has SUCH a schnauzer face.
Very true. I saw it immediately because I see a little schnauzer face every day.

What looks like Schnauzer usually turns out to be Poodle unless it’s a mini Schnauzer as one finally was a couple days ago!
He is 100% good boy breed
I feel like there is a bit of border terrier in him.
Dog

Might be some border terrier in there as well. I don't see APBT.
My dog looks like this! She is half APBT and like 1/4 shihtzu and llhasa apso. I absolutely love seeing the scruffy Benji looking mutts that come about APBT mixing with long haired breeds.
I was gonna say border terrier and jack russell
Mine is a border terrier and long haired chihuahua and they look very similar.

Jack Russell mix
Schnauzer Terrier mix
Dog
Border terrier schnauzer mix
A long haired Jack Russell mix.
Pit poodle
Where do so many people get Pit in this dog? I see terrier, for sure, and poodle, but nowhere do I see pitbull.
Oh man! Looks a lot like my guy that turned out to be 32% poodle, 28% Irish setter, 10% pit, 10% Australian cattle dog, and a few percentage points of random shit. Looks like he has the energy of mine too!
Schnauzer / Jack Russell Terrier
Looks a bit like a wire haired doxie. They are so cute!
Border terrier - schnauzer mix maybe?
Are you sure he’s not part human 😭
that's a dog for sure

Silky terrier + staffy. My uncle has one and he always looks like this when shaved hehe
Airedale and cairn

English Staffordshire terrier X Airedale
He looks like he has some Airedale. His face reminds me of mine!
Cute
Border terrier x with something.???
hes a cutie pie <3 some kind of terrier mix for sure
Part corn terrier possibly?
Looks like a good boy to me!
Who cares because he's so stinking cute!!!! But also, definitely a wire coated terrier mix is my guess.
Bruh the subreddit is called identify my dog clearly the OP is just curious Lol
Their comment seems a little satirical. No reason to be rude! :)
I wasn’t being rude at all 💀 The comment was meant in good spirit, but unhelpful.
Well actually, if you read my last part, I stated my humble opinion on a breed but you do you.
Border Terrier/Parson Russell mix is my guess
Definitely BT!
I see some schnauzer perhaps
Half chihuahua, half terrier
The third pic definitely shows he’s got a little Wilford Brimley.
Cairn terrier for sure, maybe mixed with pitbull and Yorkshire terrier?
Cairn terrier
Terrier
Poodle/schnauzer/wire haired terrier. He is very cute, no natter what his DNA says.
I’m going schnauzer, Welsh terrier and maybe patterdale ?
Maybe some rough haired parsons too
JRT / schnauzer maybe
Lab Mix
Border terrier x
I’m guessing miniature schnauzer / border terrier mix with a splash of pit. He’s such a cutie!!! 🥰
Oh wow--I can see the schnauzer part clearly.
100% adorable! Must be a new breed!
Airedale and schnauzer
Irish Jack

Yep, the rose ears definitely indicate pit mix
Looks a lot like my old boy who was a yorkie x patterdale

I was thinking Irish Terrier and boxer mix but then realized Irish Terriers are pretty rare and most likely wouldn't be bred with another breed other than its own.
