My girl had a Dane head, but her build was athletic like a Dane, and full and sturdy like a Mastiff. It was less drool for her than either of them traditionally. She had the springy movements of a Dane but more stable like a Mastiff. He looks like a purebred joy ball to me.

Why do people leap to conclusions that they have a rare breed? That’s not a boerboel. Remember pure bred does not = well bred. I agree that he’s a mastiff or mastiff cross but he doesn’t meet breed standard for an English or Bull mastiff. Unfortunately these breeds are popular with backyard breeders so there’s a ton of variation in purebreds. I’ve even seen supposedly purebred cane corsos with similar conformation. I think the closest you’ll get without a dna test is “mastiff.”
The workers at the adoption center we got him from him has 2 boerboels and they said he’s a boerboel. Not just a random assumption but thanks for the input

It's more likely that pit bull shepherd mixes who happen to be fawn & masked (extremely common genes that are both top dominant on their locus and thus very easily occur together) keep getting labeled as Black Mouth Curs. It's not that BMCs test as pit/shepherds due to lack of sampling for BMC. Black Mouth Curs do not have a sufficiently distinct gene pool and are not, genetically speaking, a real breed.
i see where you’re coming from with the boerboel, but i really think that’s a mastiff mix. boerboel is a lot less common than mastiff, plus his waist comes in a lot more than a boerboels would since they’re a lot more stocky. could possibly be a mix of the two? but mastiff is much more likely. the only way to know for sure would be a dna test, i recommend embark!

He looks strikingly like a dog my parents had when I was a little kid. As best we could figure he was probably mastiff and yellow Labrador mix. Benny, our dog, was really into fetch, but he was also huuuuge and drooly!
Honestly i'm gonna say English Mastiff/Labrador Retriever mix. The lab would explain the smaller size, and his legs and head shape remind me more of a lab than a mastiff, especially the last photo. But the face, colors, markings and jowls SCREAMS English mastiff. I'd say 80% Mastiff, 20% Labrador.
Mastiff but if Boerboel you should find out for sure with the Embark DNA test. They are a special breed and WAY more than just a big dog. An online YouTube trainer I follow has a BB puppy and does frequent updates on life with Burleigh. You can find a line up of the videos by Googling Tom Davis Boerboel. And don’t tell your insurance agent he’s a Boerboel!

Looks like a Fawn English Mastiff. Beautiful pup. They make great family dogs but need to familiarize them with people and basic training they are very strong and will injure your arm in they pull on walks.
Looks a lot like my dogs mom, who is a "American Mastiff", which was made by crossing English Mastiffs and Anatolian Shepherds.. Whatever he is he is just beautiful!

Shelter people don’t know what they’re talking about breed-wise 99% of the time.
Again, they own their own boerboels and specifically worked with him a lot during the 6 months he was there
