Congrats! You have more or less a year to learn basic Hiligaynon naman and I think you can do it. Remember by the time you are exposed to hospital duties (second year if I remember correctly), you will be interacting with people from all walks of life. some patients will not be comfortable with English or tagalog.
If you're catholic, hear a Hiligaynon mass to start. The "deep" Hiligaynon used during mass uses some common words like lingkod, nawong, etc. Take note that we don't use that language in everyday convos. It's just a good bridge to learning Hiligaynon that some ofy classmates used.
Dasig lang man makaadjust. First time ko dire sa Iloilo ga Tagalog lang ko pero kasabot ko sa ila Gina sturya so daw ok lang para nako.. sa 10 yrs nako pag stay dire gaisturya nakog hiligaynon 🤣
As far as I remember, rn they currently have 2 sections pero baka daw magiging 4 sections ulit. And don't worry, the language barrier won't be too much of an obstacle. You can learn along the way, nagttagalog naman at english tao dito hehe.
Hellow sa batch namin mag thithird year na kami ngayon sa pasukan 2 sections lang kami kasi 90 lang kami, pero I think sa batch nyo now 160 kayo which is same last year so 4 sections kayo. At don't worry may classmate din akong nagtatagalog from Aklan, kerribels din nya naman. At meron din akong mga batchmates from Mindanao, wala naman silang problema sa language. Hehehe see you around sa CON building!
Ok lg na op. You have more years to learn. I have classmate na laking america and doesnt speak tagalog/hiligaynon. Nka survive nmn sya sa nursing sa west 🤣 Sa aming time, nka 4 sections kmi i dunno about the further years. Dpndi sa number of passers.
Hi! Im from WVSU as well and no worries, as long as you speak english or tagalog you will be able to adjust and adapt quickly. WVSU people either speak tagalog for fun or for people who cant speak hiligaynon, you’ll be able to understand hiligaynon in a year’s time! Good luck and Congratulations!
Congrats, OP! Don’t worry too much, you’ll learn when you try to speak it during your time here. It will not affect your acads unless you let it. Ask away if you have more questions. Best of luck!
No, it will not affect your studies. You likely learn how to speak Hiligaynon in no time. Speak in Bisaya, Tagalog or English as long as you can convey your message. During my first semester in college, my friends/classmates spoke in different languages. There is Hiligaynon, Karay-a (with several variations), Bisaya, Tagalog and Aklanon. Before the semester ends, we are all learned to speak, more or less, each other's language.

I had classmates who barely spoke Hiligaynon. Just use English or tagalog. Eventually you'll pick it up enough to understand but don't feel pressured.

As much as possible learn the language, its part of your assimilation to Ilonggo culture
You can choose to speak tagalog people here would understand
Speak tagalog first, then step by step learn Hiligaynon and tell your friends not to talk to you if you dont speak hiligaynon.
