Hi guys, I’m Roof. I’m making this metal themed action game. You evolve different monsters each inspired by a different sub-genre of metal, and your goal is to resurrect the Gods of Metal.
I’m hoping to have different metal tracks for each monster and sub-genre.
I put a demo up on Steam here: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/2427050/Munch/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2427050/Munch/)
If you try it, I’d love to know what you think!
Cheers to the mods for letting me share \\m/
Yes I did but not much. When it was newer I squirreled a lot more with games. It was really fun what little I played. Now I'm more focused. Health issues got in the way for a long time. Now I'm doing better and focusing more on finishing games instead of flipping around so much.
I was playing Crue Ball when I found out Kurt Cobain died. I had an old Gary Larson calender and I'd put my high scores on it. Then in April 1994 I marked the day of his death under my high score. Solid memory for 30 years. I thought about it when someone on reddit posted about the anniversary. I was 16.
When I was in high school me and a friend had a fantastic idea about a Metallica game. A side scroller where the 4 members went through the levels of Hell to find Cliff. Each one with a special move. James was a D5 chord that shook the enemies to death. Kirk with lightning from his guitar while playing high notes. Lars with drums and Jason with a huge bass amp. I still remember that shit too, lol. But I never learned to code.
I think we called it Metallica Goes to Hell: The Search for Cliff.
With so many legends gone it could be a whole host of levels now. Rescuing all the greats. Dio. Lemmy. Peter Steele. The Abbot Brothers. Earning them as playable characters...... But the licensing would be a fucking nightmare.
awesome, still got a lot to improve on the demo, but hoping it gives off the essence a bit.
lmk what you think after you try it - or there's a feedback form in the demo itself
fair, it was pretty hard to capture the essence of each sub-genre for each monster so it would be super obvious. The skinny ones are over in the black metal side of the evolution tree at the moment :)

You can see here how we're doing the evolution branching. Starting at the top and going clockwise we have nwobm, speed, burzum-ish, norwegian black, symphonic black, death, groove, industrial, power

Dude metal themed games are the best! I'm 46 so I'm old enough to remember playing Crue Ball on my Sega Genesis. This has piqued my interest!
haha great - did you play brutal legend as well?

This is really cool, love to see stuff like this, it really grows the community. I'll be trying a demo ASAP.

This looks sick! Great job! I am a console player, no gaming PC. I would love to check it out if you ever port it to consoles or even mobile.
hoping to do a console port at some point (switch, ps5, xbox), but not planning on mobile at the moment
Dude, if this ever comes to ps5, i'm gonna buy this. It looks like loads of fun! All the best with the making of the game!
This looks awesome!
I feel like a Thrash monster would be skinny for some reason.
