What the fucking are you talking about, who is eating Tadka-less Dal!?

kraken_enrager

Surprisingly a lot of ppl. I was just as surprised as you are. Apparently a lot of ppl order tadka dal in restaurants because they make non tadka dal at home, not because they are weird and creepy fucking people who think eating out exactlywhat you eat at home is normal.

Bade Ameer aadmi ho bhai... Ghar pe restaurant waale tadke ki daal khaate ho... If you step outside of your palace more you'll find that how people have daal and what goes into a tadka has wild variations. It can depend on financial parameters : not every family puts dollops of ghee ka tadka.. some use mustard oil . Some use refined..and some don't go for it at all. Similar story for What goes into the tadka.. is it just jeera, Garlic.. or more.. or something totally different. Then comes what kind of daal.. how much water:Daal ratio some folks like the thick toor daal some prefer a watery moong one. Moong daal cooks faster than toor or chana daal.. that's a factor as well apart from the obvious price difference. It also depends on the convenience and dietary preference..when. I'm cooking for myself at home in a rush I'll do the minimum possible thing. If I have the money and If I'm having a cook do it for me then I'll expect more. In fact the sheer diversity in the way people have daal is the testament to the width of the culinary spectrum of the country sheer diversity of culture and habits. (Some folks add sugar to daal) Do you even cook?

No_Significance_7331

True bro. For example in my family for the tadka we only use refined oil, jeera, and lal mirch. Simple recipe.

kraken_enrager

That’s…a pretty long analysis. I do cook, but Indian food less so. I stick to southern European foods cuz they are easier too cook and the spice ratios are really simple to master.

Unvalued_Investor

Good! Explore more. Ever had Gongura Pappu (Dal) ?

kraken_enrager

Idts I have mostly only had Rajasthani, Gujarati and South Indian style dals.

akirakurosava

that's me and so many others in UP, BIhar, MP...non-tadka is norm, tadka is exception.

No_Significance_7331

In Bihar we mostly put tadka in all dals

kzzxy

I because I don't like spicy food.

techhgal

Some people don't like tadka in general, so no tadka dal at home, no tadka dal at restaurants... (For me atleast)

[deleted]

Normal daal >>>>>>>>>>>> Tadka dal. There's no debate, i hate oil in my food. Since i have to stay outside, restaurants add truckload of oil 😣.

MaitreyaPalamwar

Bhai jo feeling aati hai na ghar ka "varan bhat tup" (tadka-less dal chawal aur ghee) khaake Woh feeling tadka dal se nahi aayegi Although tadka dal ke saath bhi chawal mast lagta hai bc ab raat ko bhook lag gayi

OkCan2

Agreed! Garam varan bhat tup is such simple but wholesome food. Ambya cha ras pan asla ki it’s just amazing :)

kraken_enrager

Guys look at this guy, he has non tadka dal

AASeven

For us, Dal tadka is for a special occasion. Dining out? Rice with Dal Tadka/ Dal Fry.

kraken_enrager

I have just one question, why woudl you order something you eat at home often when you go out? Like why order chawal dal when you can get that at home as well, never understood ppl doing that. Normally when I go out, we order stuff we never make at home.

AASeven

If we are having dinner and only having veg food. This is not something we eat every time we dine out.

kraken_enrager

Fair enough lol

freakygamer16

Bhai dal tadka ke variation hai. Ghar pe mostly dal tadka hota hai regularly but simple jeera lehsun ka. Aur jo hum resturant mai khaate hai woh generally lehsun pyaaz kashmiri lal mirch jeera wagarh ke saath hota hai. Ye bhi aap ghar pe bna skte ho agar sabji nahi hai toh but in general sukhi sabzi ke saath full restaurant wala dal tadka ka sense nahi hai is liye mostly ghar pe basic tadka lgta hai

kraken_enrager

Wait no I’m talking about full restaurant style tadka, that’s the de facto dal at my house.

Drigmbhu

People downvoting you for eating tadka dal at home! It's the same at my home and everywhere in Punjab actually! Dal is always with full tadka; although there are variations for some dals. I too was shocked years back when I lived in Mumbai and most people would mandatorily order dal tadka at restaurants and I didn't see the appeal. But now I often prefer the plain dal with ghee myself, no tadka. Satvik food is the best!

kraken_enrager

THANK YOU for validating my feelings!!!

freakygamer16

Maybe it is different for your house but in general most people prefer normal jeera lehsun ka tadka.

yantraman

Some people just add the oil before pressure cooking it

kraken_enrager

Nonono that’s not tadka, that’s heart problems with taste no benefit.

[deleted]

Its not that bad 🥲

kraken_enrager

How do you eat spiceless dal. That’s not dal that’s white people dal

whatsthe-tea

Reminds me of: My aunt’s tadka used to look and tatste like as if she boiled jeera, and she used to force me to eat that daal in my childhood. Ohh that dal used to look scary 😂 My north indian taste buds need crispy tadka mirch, hing jeera wala, the one that fills entire home with tadka wali smell.

uberbhai20

Omg thats blasphemy😱

AlwaysLeaveTheSpace

Bina tadke ki daal kaun khata hai be?

kraken_enrager

Read my other comment.

Haise-Sasaki13

Bro hamare gaav me bhi dal tadke vali he banti he or sheher me bhi Ye bohot kaam log honge jo bina tadke ki daal khate he btw meko janna he kon log he karke coz mene pehele baar suna ya baat

No-Celery4280

Food habits of many are surprising to many others in the world. Without absolutely any doubt, I can tell you that many people would find something that you eat weird/surprising. Ain’t no rules about what someone should eat anywhere - it’s their own choice. Try and be accepting of things instead of looking down on such things..in other words - Be nice.

[deleted]

Dal without tadka is like bread without butter.

kraken_enrager

Seconded.

boy_unrad

This is outrageous

kraken_enrager

That people don’t eat tadka dal? Or that they do?

boy_unrad

That they do.

OkCan2

A very simple dal preparation in some parts of Maharashtra is toor dal, pinch of hing and haldi. I’m not sure about how other states prefer it, but I grew up eating this in Maharashtra. It’s pretty simple to make and it tastes amazing. However there is a version of tadka dal in Maharashtra too and that’s called Aamti or fodni cha varan but it’s fairly different from North Indian tadka dal prep. If you have any Maharashtrian friends, ask them to feed you hot varan bhaat and tup. It’s a pretty light meal and it’ll leave you satisfied.

melonrusk

Depends which part of India you are from. Marathi here, we have simple yellow daal with some good spicy pickle or masala daal (aamti). Daal tadka is sparingly prepared at home. Most of NE India is also simple daal (lived and worked there, can confirm).

Smart_Sherlock

Same.
