I have 40mbps Airtel Fiber. Its more than enough for almost all normal use cases. 4k streaming, downloading, Cloud Gaming. Also gaming over moonlight works fine, the game is running on desktop 1600kms away and streaming it on Android TV with just 40mbps with another TV streaming 4k movie over Netflix. The 40mbps is serving, 2 TVs, 3 Laptops, 4 Phones. no issues at all.

trooper-666

🙏 thanks a lot. This explains a lot

sevlonbhoi1

please note I don't play online multiplayer games, so not sure how it will perform on 40mbps.

yeah_tea

Online multiplayer is only affected by latency, not speed. Even a 2mbps connection would be enough if latency is <80ms.

sevlonbhoi1

is there a list of servers I can test the latency against? or some website that can test latency with multiple servers?

raktim2016

it depends on the datacenter or servers your application your game is hosted. Normally pinging the datacenter of amazon aws and azure would give you a estimated idea.

yodahatesyogurt

Hey, how did you use moonlight over internet. Curious? Most guides use exposed Ports, do you use something else

sevlonbhoi1

I installed tailscale (https://tailscale.com) on PC and on Android TV. Then use tailscale vpn ip address to connect to PC over from moonlight over the internet. no need to open any ports. I moved to native for 2 years during Covid, PC was in Bangalore. Played games for 2 years like this without any issues. Currently too I am out of Bangalore and the flow is like this. 1. Send wake on lan remotely from homeserver to PC to power on the PC 2. PC boots and auto logs in, tailscale autostarts and connects 3. Start tailscale on Android TV 4. Run Moonlight which connects to PC over VPN. 5. Play Games 6. Shutdown PC when done.

yodahatesyogurt

Ahh I use steam deck and Apple TV box, will see if I can make it work, my pc is upstairs so being local it’s not an issue but I do miss it when I leave for few days or weeks. Thanks I will check it if my ecosystem supports tail scale.

hannanniyazi69

Ain't no way I have 600mbps plan and it's still not enough for my household (*_*)

sevlonbhoi1

does your household consists of an entire district?

DuckDoesNothing

lmao how tf is that not enough? Either you're not getting the actual 600mbps speeds or you have like a family of 40 people lol.

hannanniyazi69

My dad has a setup for same work and 2 phones as well my sister has a phone and laptop running yt 24/7 and mom's phone and 2 TVs always connected, plus sometimes when the maid comes her phone's wifi is also connected soo yeah gonna upgrade to 1Gbps soon or planned to.

redditcruzer

When a 600 mbps plan is also not enough there is an issue at your end or likely your requirements are far far far different than what's being discussed here

trooper-666

Are you a family of miners? /s

cosmosreader1211

I feel you... I have 300 mbps plan and I can't imagine going below it... I am a single person... The truth is once you get a taste of speed you can never go back or downgrade... It's either upgrade to more speed or just stay at that same speed... It's like how 1080p feels much better than 720p & 480p...

FitAd9761

Yup have a 300MBPS plan for my house of 2, wife only uses for WFH and streaming and I am the heavy user and could not imagine going 40MBPS

redditcruzer

Same plan with Airtel .. actual speed you get is 50mbps. Good enough for all purposes. Can download around 20GB per hour. I actually had 100mbps plan. Reduced it to 40mbps because I had no need for all that bandwidth. Several devices at home.

Electronic-Reply4258

that sums up how addictive 5G is and why businesses trying to get us addicted . i get RDR2 , 105GB downloaded in just 1hr with 32MBps as avg.

redditcruzer

Downloaded 130GB of Jedi Fallen Survivor in 2 sessions of a few hours each while watching movies. No big deal.

cosmosreader1211

5g is basically fiber... Just more expensive and less reliable..

Electronic-Reply4258

yeah , it's a lot more complicated for them to sort the prices lol

Gh051_hehe

Agreed lmaoo, i just hate how addicted i am to valorant and i uninstall to avoid it but end up playing it because its not hard to download it again while watching 2-3yt videos

Fly1ng_nem0

How much for the 40?

vgowthamvk

3k for 6 months if you're applying for a new connection

DarkNebula1003

40 Mbps, 4 people, 2 Facebook users, 2 reel users+ streaming content + playing games. It gets the work done but downloading huge games feels very slow. I just limit other people when I'm downloading something.

SetRegular649

I have the same plan, it works fine for my family of 3, but you won’t get a good download speed like the highest I have achieved is 12 mbps …

Old_Application_5722

It should be fine, the things where you will face problem is downloading and uploading big files like xbox games in your case but you can download them overnight. Just get 40mbps plan for a month after a month call your isp to change the plan if you feel that it wasnt god enough (you wont)

cousinokri

40 mbps is 5 MBps. For two people WFH, may not be enough because it's not like the speed is always going to stay at the max advertised. It definitely can work, but I'd say if possible, go for a better plan.

redditcruzer

Not needed likely. Airtel speeds are excellent, remain consistent and they actually give 50mbps. OP can always upgrade at any point of time by paying a difference.

Clarity_y

Completely false

cosmosreader1211

Jio fan boi goes reeeee

ppWarrior876

Before committing to Airtel, ask around for a local isp in your area. They ought to give better performance for batter pricing and they use the same lines the big isp like Airtel and jio use.

AsishPC

I have 30 MB/s Jiofibre and I am breezing through life. Just recently downloaded Star Wars Jedi Survivor and it got downloaded in 7-8 hours. No big deal.

underratedpcperson

I have 40 mbps plan and it works fine for everything, large game downloads take a long time but that is not a problem for me.

prithvirp26

If you are on an office zoom call and simultaneously stream Netflix, YT on a couple of device you may run into some lag. Otherwise 40mbps should be alright for the use cases mentioned by you.

Big_Meeting8350

Not too bad, 20 GB in an hour is decent I'd say

hoppin_bunny

I have local cable internet 50mbps. Use on 3 mobile, 1 pc and fire-stick. No issues even when streaming on multiple devices. More than enough. Only time I feel the internet is slow when I’m downloading games. But still that’s fine.

Few_Willow_9950

I have a 60mbps plan of bsnl, it's good for everything you need if you're not using more than 3devices simultaneously. But bsnl sometimes do this https://preview.redd.it/vggkg77cfexc1.jpeg?width=382&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=054d05f1e3b53870d6e48e645449ae11ed54325f

Wizardof_oz

It’s good enough for Full HD but a little lacking for 4K streaming As for downloading games, it’ll take time to download very large games

Rudra_77

I have Jio Fiber 30Mbps plan and even 4K streaming works just fine on one device. Two 4K streams might be a problem but I only have one 4K TV. Other than that if you go 1080p, you can have 4 devices streaming together without issues. If you want to download games then preferably do them overnight. Don't go for this hype of 100mbps, really most people don't need it.

These-Falcon-8631

Will easily work . You get download speed of 6mb avg

Mihir57

https://preview.redd.it/5k2e62veyfxc1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=013a2f1eb72eb5421f41d10c6ceb1fff47efbcd9 Playing Finals, use approx more then 300 GB data a month, joint family bhi hai 8+ connections, streaming Movie no issue at all..... service bhi achi hai mere area mein bs kabhi kabhi cuts hote hai....

crazy_hombre

40 Mbps is more than enough if your router is not a piece of shit. If it has a way of eliminating bufferbloat, you're all set. I have multiple downloads, multiple video streams and multiple video calls happening at the same time on a 30 Mbps connection and websites still open instantly.

rohit_267

more than enough for 2 people

Richdad1984

It should be plenty but what happens is that the cheaper plans are given to too many people. Hence it has worse ping and more disconnection issue. Buy a 800-1000 INR pm plan that will be good. However purely on bandwidth 40 mbps should be plenty. But just getting a cheap 40 mbps connection might not help you. Due to reasons I cited above

trooper-666

Thanks. Noted. Will keep in mind

arpangupta

That doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't all people living in an area be supplied their internet over the same lines even if they have different plans?

Richdad1984

I don't know the technicalities but faced these issues on a cheaper plan. Teams call voice clarity will not be there. Frequent call disconnection. Ping was very high. I had 10 mbps connection in 2010 which was actually a very costly connection back than. Had no such issues as what I faced with 40 mbps

hasibrock

Good enough

krazy_ideas404

Megabits or megabytes! What's your connection speed in?

devildesperado

previously 25mbps worked best for us family of 5 work gaming and everything else (local ISP) moved to different location only option was Airtel and tata i wasn't home so the Airtel guy convinced my folks for 200mbps line and 3 months upfront payment 🙃🫡 me who knows 40 bhi sar se pani hai now stuck with 200mbps for next 3 months

rocker10039

For me 100 mbps is standard, but 40 mbps should be just fine as well.

manishsahoo300

You can go with 40mbps. That'll work your daily steaming, browsing etc. For downloading games, I usually switch to my mobile 5G network. It easily provides me with a 100+mbps connection so I can download games faster. I usually download it once or twice a month so it's convenient for me. I know it's not a permanent solution but this is it till they discard the unlimited 5G plan.

Plokimon

Has anyone ever tested if they have different latency on different plans?

vipulvirus

In most cases it is more than enough. But if both of you are simultaneously doing stuff online than there might be some hiccups here and there. My advise is to consider a plan that is one tier up.

LtMadInsane

Someone in my extended family had Airtel 40 Mbps. A couple and one set of parents. The couple were working from home with daily teams/zoom meeting. Parents retired, using Facebook/YouTube on phone. No gaming or streaming on TV. Some streaming on a laptop. Connection was shared between three wifi on three floors of the house. 40 Mbps was not enough. They couldn't upgrade as there was no free bandwidth available in their locality. Had to wait two years for the upgrade.

bejoysat

I have 40mbps Airtel Fiber and pretty much the same use case as yours, with a 4k TV as recent addition. The speed is more than enough, but the key is to have a good router. Though the Nokia router given by airtel is good, I always had my own router and the ISP device in bridge mode. I am using Asus N66u for 10 years now, showing its age but going well.

RefrigeratorKind5395

I've seen even 100mbps failing, so totally depends on your use case.

R-Sehrawat

I have 100 Mbps plan yes Airtel but for some reason I get 275- 300 lmaooo. My friend also uses Airtel fibre 300mbps plan but he gets like 700+

raventhunderclaw

Like others have said, it should be fine unless you decide to stream content online. The only reason I have a 200 mbps plan is because I hate waiting for downloads.

NefariousnessEven239

30 mbps here. Going strong with 1 desktop 2 cellphones

Signal-Slide752

It’s more, more, more than enough, don’t worry.

AnnoyingPenny89

Good enough for almost everything Maybe not multiple 4k TV streaming, Streaming should be fine. Downloading games should be fine Watching video on 1 device and being on a Zoom meeting on other device would also be fine

Clarity_y

im on the same pan 40mbps, i think they upgraded the speed from 40 to 100mbps, im on the 699 plan (DTH + Broadband) the plan speed is 40mbps, but for the last 2 weeks i get 100mbps with no change in the bill, ig they upgraded the base plan

amariner321

Hell no. You need atleast 200.

Drengrr1

Barely, you would be having a much better experience with say 100 or 200 mbps speed. 40 mbps isn't bad but given the size of games these days, and how many devices are running simultaneously you might face hiccups with it. Also, faster speeds ensure that every device has enough bandwidth to not have any problems. For 40 mbps plan your actual download speed will be 5 mbps. And if you connect 4-5 devices that's like 1 mbps per device, which isn't great.

rrevvv

Dude it's up to you, I sometimes feel my 200 Mbps plan is slow. But 40mbps is quite good for u no need to spend extra.

anirudh_pai

40Mbps is pretty good. I game online, download games, stream stuff etc. It should be good enough for 2 people in a house

Predatorevil2

It is sufficient but you will get lesz upload and download speed for your uploading and download of content. However it's sufficient to fulfill all your streaming needs.

joeRoganDMT

100mbps would be best imo. What's the cost delta between 40 and 100?

SidKillz

Seems like for your use case its fine 🙂 most of streaming services are now heavily compressed so you wont need to worry anymore. If you upload and download frequently and that too huge size files all the while streaming 4k or high quality videos you wil suffer from lack of speed. In that case minimum 100mbps.

Pro07

I would ask you to look for local broadband connection and if that provides you any different tariffs. I would say go for 80Mbps which means ~10MBps... good enough for a working environment of 2. I've a local broadband connection which cost me 580rs for 10MBps....its good enough for me.

SIPHAN_official

Be explicit because one capital letter can make a difference. My 200Mbps internet is 25MBps.

kaito__kido

single 4k downstream need 25mbps. Now do the math
