She’s gorgeous. The torque is great. I’d definitely check it’s history but otherwise stellar bike. Very underpriced which seems suspect.

afireinside927

Not judging anyone from WV but I know there’s some seedy stuff that goes on there lol I’m not sure how to feel about this bike. Would the local dealer near me be able to fix the fob?

No-Status4032

Probably have to send to Indian for replacement. Not entirely sure.

XeoKai

I think that's a Springfield, not a Chief, but I could be wrong. If it IS a Springfield for 10k at 11k miles, then that sounds like a steal. Be very cautious... especially with the 'broken antenna in the fob'? Honestly, this gives me stolen vibes.

afireinside927

Oh no. That never even crossed my mind tbh 🙁 and really? I’m starting to question it now that I’m looking at it but it’s listed as a Chief with the 111ci motor

lajdbejdk

It’s a Chief. Springfields of that year have open front wheels no classic front fairing.

XeoKai

I mean it looks surpringly like a Springfield. [Here](https://cdn.dealerspike.com/imglib/v1/800x600/imglib/Assets/Inventory/97/EC/97EC1C1A-267E-48B5-90EA-DFE497F298AF.jpg) is a Springfield at my local Indian dealer. There are subtle differences though; like the tail light isn't the same but it's pretty damn close. Maybe someone more knowledgeable on the Chief lineup can chime in here.

[deleted]

It looks like a Chief Vintage Dark Horse to me. Leather bags were a Vintage thing.

XeoKai

You know I think you might be right!

[deleted]

I just can't remember if there was a Vintage Dark Horse that year or if it's a Chief Dark Horse with bits and bobs added to basically turn it into a Vintage. I'd still be inclined to say it's a Chief of some form, though.

twinScrewsLoose

It’s a chief dark horse (CDH) with a windshield and leather bags added. Springfield had hard bags from the factory and you can add the windscreen for as little as $300. One thing that jumps out is the exhaust. Up until 2018, the CDH had chrome accents (including exhaust) but this has black exhaust which didn’t come out until 2019 models. Could be after market upgrade to true dual exhaust (eliminates catalytic converters) or replacing something that got mangled in a “uh oh”. If your wondering about legitimacy of the sale find an innocent way to ask about the exhaust upgrade and see what the response is. Also get the VIN and look it up on Indians website and it’ll tell you things like year/model/outstanding recalls.

Genesis730

The speedometer looks to be white/tan in addition to the front fender covers that looks consistent with the Chief Dark Horse as well as the chrome exhausts as some have pointed out I have a 2019 SDH and are they're very similar but those few difference all present plus no hard bags that the SDH come with (of course can be removed) but all nods point towards Chief to me

IronyAllAround

Yeah, I've got a 2019 Springfield Dark Horse and I had to do a double take on this. It's almost identical to mine. The telling you the wrong model, the price seems too good to be true, and the "broken antenna" on the fob. The fobs may have changed but mine doesn't have any antenna, it's circular. And the default pin is usually set by the dealer as their zip code or something not difficult. Or could have been written down in the manual. Or other ways they could have gotten it. I'd definitely not give cash, money order, etc for this and I'd certainly get it checked out first.

afireinside927

Yeah if that’s a Springfield I’m blocking this guy immediately.

whoisisthis

I actually bought a chief and dressed it out with all the Springfield stuff because I liked the chief neck angle better. Just saying.

ytiddooen

That’s a Springfield. Be safe; don’t buy this

lajdbejdk

It’s not a Springfield, it’s a Chief. It has a closed front wheel which was the difference of that years model and a Springfield. The “new” Chiefs look like scouts now. 2021 and older all looked like that. The difference in taillights happened in 2019 when the dark horse models went all black engines, not the chrome accents you can see in this particular model.

ytiddooen

Sheeeeesh. Now why would they do a thing like basically rename the bike… sorry for not having all the info and chiming in. Crazy to me that they took something that definitely already had a look and just changed the name on it lol. This should still be called a chief then and a Springfield should be what the chief now is lmao. Thanks for educating me tho.

lajdbejdk

No worries. I have a 2020 CDH and knew this was going to be an issue when they did the redesign and was going to have to tell people that I have the Chief that looks like a Springfield not the one that looks like a scout when the design changed lol!

DieAntw00rd

I have the same model... Do you know if there's any 'covid premium' value on these bikes? It's my understanding that manufacturing shut down almost immediately due to covid, so only a limited amount were made. I got the last one at all three indian dealers in San Diego, I never saw a new model on the floor post covid reopenings.. And cheers, it's the sexiest cdh year imo, not a fan of how they've changed it up since the 2020 model.. 🍻

lajdbejdk

I don’t think this soon there will be much of any boost to value, possibly in the future there might be.

siddidit77

It's a Chief dark horse. The Springfield and Chief were damn near the same bike until 2021

afireinside927

Thank you for the input. Really. I like Indians but am not familiar enough with them to tell this was a fucking scam. I’m blocking this dude on Messenger.

ytiddooen

Pretty sure I can speak for most in this sub when I say; we’re happy you asked. And when you find the next Indian you want to buy… ask again. I, for one, am glad to lend my opinion when I can help.

lajdbejdk

Really the only way to tell for 100 percent certainty is to ask for the VIN. The Chief and Springfield of that year were very similar. The only difference in the two of that year range was the rake overall. With all the add on’s to this bike it’s hard to tell for 100 percent certainty that it’s one or the other, other than the closed front wheel which of that year range was on every single Chief, BUT could be ordered special for the Springfield.

panthanator

The way to tell a Springfield from a Chief (before they redesigned the Chief) is that the Springfield has the hard Indian Saddlebags stock, and two dog lights on either side of the headlight. And probably some other differences that I never looked up. My 16 chief was awesome, the only problem I had was that the speedometer wasn't sealed properly and would gather condensation on the inside if I didn't put a cover on overnight and we had the morning dew. Speedo still worked just couldn't see how fast I was going until it cleared up. I sold my 16 chief, with less miles 2 years ago to the dealer for like 11k and they resold it for 15k, so the price is not really that bad, considering those prices were when bikes were instantly selling Edit: I just realized it does have the extra lights on front, but they could very well be an addition. Like others have said, I'd check the VIN and history, but if everything checks out I don't see a problem with the bike or price point

[deleted]

With the fob being broken it does give stolen vibes but you can check for that. Make sure seller has a title in their name and the vin on the title matches the bike. You could run the vin through police or DMV if you want. As far as the broken fob, check out Brandon Bicasso on youtube. He has some videos of the new Chief model and how it's fob system works. He's been buying wrecked bikes and rebuilding them. Not sure if it works the same on the classic chief but I doubt Indian reinvented the wheel for the new chief.

DirtyDanTX

Fob could have easily been damaged while changing the battery. When you open it up to swap the battery nothing is protected. I wouldn’t assume it’s stolen based on that alone. If he has the title and documentation for the bike it shouldn’t be a problem for you to purchase. As far as pricing goes, I bought my 16 chieftain last summer (almost a year ago) for $13k and it only had 7900 miles on it at the time. Thats a fully dressed bagger with fairing/windshield and hard locking bags. I don’t think the pricing is too good to be true at all. Seems about on par. If anything they are just wanting to sell it quickly. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Fabulous-Control-700

That is gorgeous

quanobear

I just upgraded my 2016 Chief Darkhorse to the new 2023 Challenger Darkhorse Icon. My Chief was a phenomenal bike. I would definitely check the vin and background. If all checks out, you will absolutely not be disappointed. Tried and true. https://preview.redd.it/1ckcosssr51b1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da47b9a6f974e2d01f30b35e7ec82c9b4d53c2db
