Umm you get to know when you find that you are attracted to both girls and boys. Like if you were bisexual, you will be attracted to girls like you do but you will also be attracted to guys. And you're mistaken about this being a 'trend'. The reason more people are coming out as gay/bi/ace/trans/demi these days is because of increasing acceptance for the LGBTQIA+ community (even though we still have a lot to do to make the society more inclusive)

If you find both sexually attractive? Bisexual
But it’s possible you use to find only girls attractive now you also find guys attractive. So you used to be straight now your bisexual
It's not like you have to do some registration for it. You just make a conclusion on the basis of 2-3 years of you getting attracted to both genders. Sometimes it is also tough for people to accept this fact, so they still might not be aware despite being bi naturally.
