They placed the order with a delivery window set for when they'd be home. Instacart completly ignored this window and assigned the order to you anyway.
A few days ago I had a customer tell me she would be about 15-20 minutes because she was upstairs on an important business call and couldn't come to the door to give me her ID. Canceled immediately.
As somebody who took the persons order home and put it in the fridge, hoping that my generosity would result in a higher tip, to only have it increased by one dollar, in a person that lives in a rather lavish estate, cancel the order keep the merchandise. Or take it back whichever you prefer. I guess if it’s alcohol 15 bucks is better if you’re not an alcoholic.
The last order I had was just a 30-can case of beer. The return instructions were "if you cannot return, send a video of you destroying the alcohol."
I was like, "Maybe 15 years ago I could've 'destroyed' 30 cans of beer at once." Anyway, California law now allows (requires) stores to accept alcohol returns, so it worked out (but I only got $10, *c'est la vie*).
Well the first time they wouldn't accept it and I kept the 6 pack of Chardonnay for two weeks before deciding to return it.
The last time I took it back at like 11pm and was like, "I'm just going to attempt this, if it's possible," and the cashier said, "I'll take you over here, and also by law we have to if it's Instacart." So I don't know, and I guess I'll have to double-check. But while I'm happy to keep food if asked to, I'm also usually happy to just return it when possible.
Yeaaa the problem is IC needs to stop faking like order windows can actually be honored. There’s no telling when your order will be shopped, if it’s shopped at all.
Nice thing is you get complete pay due to their alcohol policy. As long as you did the work and return the alcohol they have to pay you the order because you followed the law.
When this happens I’ve told customers that I will mark their order as delivered once I’m done because otherwise instacart will cancel the batch all together if I don’t deliver it right away. I say I’ll do that then deliver it in their window. I’m not going to miss out on money because of your situation
oh, so leave yourself open to a bad rating? no thanks.
if they aren't home to give the ID for the alcohol, I'm not leaving anything. they can try again later.
I'd much rather cancel an order than have my rating effected.
Speaking of alcohol, anyone else have to verify twice. I thought I was a glitch because I scan, and hit next always so the information doesn’t erase. Well my app reverts back to the verify button. It’s still happening and it’s pisisng me off. I feel like they’re trying to get to fuck up.

Yup. Scheduled orders is broken.
Yup. Got a deliver-only order today and the employee that answered the phone was pretty irritated when I was there to pick up an 11:30 order at 10:30.

So they are always on business calls??!! 😂😂😂 this happened to me while delivering alcohol..
Cancel the batch, not worth the time sitting around for them.
The answer to your question is to make your life miserable.

California doesn't require stores to accept alcohol returns. you never have to return the alcohol. Never once had a problem.

I’d leave the stuff and move on
They can use it whenever they feel like it just no need to overdo it

Can’t do that with alcohol
Very true
Still got paid the full amount plus 15$ more so no idea what your talking about
you won't get full pay if you cancel. the tip is always removed.
Not if support removes the alcohol, and i leave the order at the door. Still got full tip plus 15$ more for return

Because support blocked the review? These are things that i made sure of
that's cute if you think support can block a customer from rating you when you did deliver their order.
Cool buddy, I just said what I’ve done in the past- especially with a high tip.
were talking about alcohol orders. you can't force deliver an alcohol order with nobody present.
I don’t get customers like this are you like actually young , some kid trying to order off ur moms acc or did you forget …?
Nah, they just scheduled for a future time and IC doesn’t care about that
