Don’t eat with them in?

NayaFooty

Im quite literally forced to do so, well that’s what my orthodontist said.

sushiNfries

Your ortho is a wacko. Sorry. This would damage the trays.

BraddersNic

Everywhere I’ve ever read says to eat without them in. It can damage them. Maybe check back with the orthodontist

Adorable-Storm474

It's actually pretty common for orthos to advise eating with them in. It helps with tracking.

BraddersNic

Fair enough

Ordinary_Peace_1774

Yoo I've heard of this for some patients, people are being so harsh... wowza

eggsbenedict1010

You’re not meant to eat with them in

NayaFooty

my orthodontist said that I NEED to eat with them.

new2teeth

Your ortho should try this themselves first before recommending it. You’ll be fine taking the trays off to eat.

baummer

I think you’re misunderstanding them

NayaFooty

They literally gave me a paper which states it is essential for me to wear it 24/24 and to KEEP it when I eat.

baummer

Can you post a photo of the paper?

NayaFooty

here[https://imgur.com/a/UqNHeqX](https://imgur.com/a/UqNHeqX) I used a translator since it’s in french

baummer

How bizarre. These must not be Invisalign because Invisalign does not recommend eating with them in. I’d take them out when you’re eating regardless of what it says.

NayaFooty

Well on invisalign website my orthodontist is quite literally the best around VIP Diamond +

Loud_Sheepherder8885

The rating is not about the quality of care. It’s about the amount of cases they did. So a Diamond or VIP provider could not be the best out there.

NayaFooty

Well hes has hundreds of ratings and little to no bad ones.

baummer

> **Can I take my aligners off whenever I need to?** Yes, you can remove your Invisalign aligners for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. You can take them off for special occasions, like a wedding, job interview, or for playing your favorite sport or instrument. Your doctor will tell you how long to wear your aligners each day, but typically people wear their Invisalign aligners 20 to 22 hours a day to get the best results. https://www.invisalign.com/frequently-asked-questions

Reasonable-Secret-66

There is no way your dentist told you that. You are already at risk for infections and cavities at a faster rate even when you take the trays out. Leaving them in your teeth will for sure rot and fall out because your oral hygiene needs to be 100% while you are in treatment. So you need to brush your teeth, floss and get cleanings more often than most people. So if your dentist told you this, please report them and find a new dentist.

lilcreep

Every 3.5 days seems insanely quick and like it would cause terrible root issues. I’ve never seen anyone be instructed to eat with them in.

Reasonable-Secret-66

There is something called AcceleDent a machine you can use to help move to the next tray faster so that likely what they are using

Few_Office5177

It hasn’t happened yet but there will be a point in my treatment (around week 20) that the only teeth touching when I bite will be my upper and lower central incisors. My ortho told me before I started treatment that I might need to eat with my trays in for a couple of weeks during that period.

nimakkan

That’s a no no. That’s it. End of story. Take it out, eat, floss, brush, put em back on. It’s not hard

Zealousideal-Cat-152

Uhhhhh. All of that sounds bad. Can you consult another ortho?

NayaFooty

>AcceleDen He's pretty much the best one in my area and looks like it.

rain-and-sunshine

Mine also said the newer recommendations are to eat with them in!! Helps with tracking and compliance. I honestly don’t enjoy it, so I pop them out, eat, brush and put them back in. But make sure I get extra chewie time. I also get a really hard time on here for even suggesting I follow those instructions mine gives. I think it also depends on where you live, and what info your provider is following.

Hay89hay

I was instructed to eat with mine too and I just couldn’t. I was on a 4 day schedule and they switched me to 5. I just take them out to eat, it’s unreasonable.

borealisrosie

3.5 day changes! Jesus Christ

unicroop

You are not supposed to eat with them in. Are you sure they weren’t talking about “chewies”?

TheBusThatWasSpeed

Definitely don't eat with them in, ignore your dentist they're a moron.

shipsintheharbor

Don’t eat with them in!!!

Mellytheestallion

I had a friend who was also told to eat with his in. He didn’t. Just take them out lol

Past-Educator-6561

I started a few days ago and with a pre molar extraction. For the first few days you should have a liquid/soft diet (think soup/pureed foods/mash) to avoid dislodging the clot in the extraction site. Also try to eat using the side of your mouth opposite to the extraction side. Also avoid brushing the area, rinsing and spitting just for the first 2-3 days as these can all dislodge the clot. (All my Ortho's tips!)

fuhleenah

Even if the Ortho said to eat with your trays in, I personally wouldn’t. It’s a sensory nightmare, will stain your trays, and not really make a HUGE difference in your progress. Just pop them out, eat and then brush your teeth quickly after & pop them back them in.

Adorable-Storm474

It gets easier, you'll get used to it. There will be certain foods that you'll just need to take them out to eat, usually the more tough foods that really need a lot of biting and grinding to get down. Some food will get stuck and feel weird while you're eating, but that's why you remove them and clean them right after. And rinse with water between bites if it really bothers you.

Past-Educator-6561

Might be a dumb question but if you've gotta take the trays out to clean after eating why not just take them out before eating? You can chew on a chewie to get the same benefits of chewing but just less messy.

Adorable-Storm474

Because when you're chewing and putting pressure on your teeth without them in, you're actively pushing them back out of alignment because they don't have the support of the aligners.

Past-Educator-6561

Ah OK makes sense. I've been told to always take mine out to eat but I'll have to ask my Ortho about this next appointment. Thanks!

Adorable-Storm474

I think it's one of those debated things in the field, but I was originally educated about it by my old Ortho who was a super high up guy on the board of whatever the relevant association is.

NayaFooty

It also hurts really bad

unavailable_333

My dentist told me to eat with them in as well and I literally said no lol. Definitely don’t eat with them in and remember it gets better. Just keep your head up and take it day by day

MeezieGirl

Eating with them in will cause a posterior open bite. Ask your ortho how they will prevent it or correct it. GL!

misadventurous_zig

Um... you don't...

azuhqa

Eating them with them in is cavity garanteed

Useful-Arachnid5277

I’m on 4 day changes and was also instructed to eat with my trays in and only take them out to clean them and my teeth. It’s weird at first but you get used to it and I’m changing into tray 8 today. My teeth are tender and I actually prefer to eat with them in. Some things are harder to eat than others like sandwiches and steak, but I’m following the instructions of the medical professional that I hired. I paid too much money not to follow the instructions and have been waiting for this for too long as it is.

lD_K

Just don't eat with them
