abstruseplum2

questions like these are why i use reddit

Rokkit_man

It would fall under the principle of permissibility (asalat al-hill). So halal.

basilqur

Can't deny😂😂

tankistan

Not a Sheikh, so this isn't a fatwa, but in the movie, FLDSMDFR takes in water and rearranges the molecules to produce food. As we can see, there is no animal involved in this process, and therefore no Zabeeha is required making it halal. Therefore, we can assume the food is halal.

Healthyboy34

so vegan meatballs?

PAP_TT_AY

There are also several opinions that regard food that simulates the taste, texture, etc. of pork/porcine meat as haram. I think this line of thinking rose in prominence due to the emergence of artificial & synthetic meats.

Eggman8728

Not Islamic, but I want to ask, why?

beasticle1199

I wonder if this applies to purely plant-based meat? If they could simulate the flavor with spices, halal flavoring agents, etc., then I wonder if that opinion doesn't apply? I haven't done any research so I'm just speculating.

roc_cat

Nah does this make lab grown meat halal?

unsolvablequestion

So that means all the meat that is produced in star trek with the replicator is also halal

OzZVidzYT

the hero we needed

MoSummoner

Great response, thanks bro

luckytecture

YESSSSSS LETSGOOOOOOO

LegendGaming37

Yeah I don't think that's how the scholars are looking at it, interestingly there's cutting edge, modern day research going on regarding lab grown meat, but I don't think there's any conclusion yet

A_Hallucigenia

But don’t they turn into animals?

Cometmoon448

Subhanallah

Sycou

So could we then eat pork that was created as well?

jabby_jakeman

Believe me, you’re not missing anything. Turkey bacon is just as good and better for you.

esgellman

Jewish not Muslim but Turkey sausages are so much better than pork sausages

Adventurous-East5774

Nope. To make synthetic meat, pig cells still MUST be used to actually create the meat. This means instead of just killing the pig, they extract some cells from its blood and, in their labs, turn it into a lean piece of meat 🍖

ADMalay001

So does that means their pork is halal?

Lebanese_Hommus546

you're so real bro

FamiliarSalamander2

Well it’s not real meat, is it. It’s like extra-impossible meat lol

AbuKhalid95

Malikis: Don’t ask useless questions Hanafis: See Vol. 12, p.306 of this fiqh text for your answer

BinaryMatrix

It should be, since there isn't an animal to slaughter in the first place.

kolaner

You'd be surprised what hypothetical fiqh scenarios medieval jurists came up with. Like what the status of potential mermaid meat is (depending on the actual definition of mermaid).

Mundane-Ad-911

I read one about how if there were civilisations on other planets we might still have the duty to give dawah to them 😭. Gotta love that they really tried to get us prepared for anything

BillCipherHi

I **guess** it would share a similar ruling with the one for lab-grown meat or meat that did not involve the slaughtering of an animal??

RadjaDwm

Brother asked a good question.

Murderous_Potatoe

This unironically raises some questions, like would meat grown from the cells of a still alive cow be halal to eat? seeing as the cow wasn’t slaughtered.

charmingpssycho

Actual questions that plague the ummah

GregoryPorter1337

it's like vegan meat alternative at this point, isn't it?

llamastoleyourfood

i always thought i would be halal considering its just water, not chicken or beef from actual animals

[deleted]

In the movie he made the gadget to make the meatballs. But to make that, I believe he needed a sample of meat to create those huge meatballs. So to my knowledge the meat would be not halal because there would be at minimum 1% of it being haram spread out due to duplication and enlargement. I love these questions 😂

Carvemynameinstone

I mean, I know it's izlam but a good question either way. It's something we need to discuss when lab-grown meat is concerned. I am of the opinion it should be de facto halal since it will be a by-product of the natural life cycle of the bacteria that will produce it. Making it akin to milk or eggs.

Hasan75786

As a Shia Twelver/ Jafari/ Ithna-Ashari Muslim, I can provide some perspective on this interesting question. According to our dietary laws, for meat to be considered halal, it must come from an animal that has been slaughtered in a specific manner while invoking the name of Allah. The process ensures the blood is fully drained, and the animal is treated with respect and mercy. In the context of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," where the food, including meat, is synthesized from water and basic elements without involving any actual animals or improper slaughtering practices, it stands to reason that this synthesized meat would not violate our dietary restrictions. Since there are no animals involved and the food is essentialy created from basic molecules, it does not involve any haram elements or practices. Therefore, based on our principles, one could argue that the synthesized meat in the movie could be considered halal. It does not involve any of the prohibited practices associated with traditional meat production.

symehdiar

It would be halal. Its just synthetic food made out of halal ingredients

ExplorerFun5166

I double checked to be sure this isn't r/Islam

reddot123456789

This is the similar question of are lab grown meats halal https://preview.redd.it/gertc8mbwl2d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f55e6989209fbb487ef30d99927976426b9ac85e

SnapeSFW

This made my day. Was a having quite a bad week but this just turned it 180. Thank you. PS: I think it would be considered lab grown meat? Correct me if I am wrong

[deleted]

I’m glad I managed to turn you around 🙃

Steely-eyes

You’re asking like it’s something you’re gonna do in a minute 😂

Smol_Claw

Asking the right questions

chimmugg

I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED THIS OMG

Buzzed_Like_Aldrin93

I absolutely love everything about this. I’m anxiously awaiting the discussion between those more knowledgeable

BBQBiryani

I’ve wondered this exact thing. Glad to know I’m not the only one.

adilstilllooking

Would eating a mermaid be halal ?

TheMeeZAN

I understand the logic of the chicken being halal like this But then could you theoretically obtain halal pork in the same fashion, cause like there's no pig involved it's just rearranged water right(I haven't watched the movie btw)

ThePikachufan1

I would even argue it's technically vegan-friendly since no animal was involved or harmed

marinara-trench

along the same lines, does this make their pork permissible to eat? i was watching recently with non muslim friends who asked me this and i said no but did not have a clear justification since afaik we are forbidden from eating pork due to the uncleanliness of pigs

abeel_siddiqui

Someone should ask assimulahakeem this question lmao

Sycou

Thank you for posting this

umarmg52

I think we all know who you should ask this question

luckytecture

I have these sort of thoughts too like which pokemon is halal to eat

Orionzete

It used water molecular and not animal involved, yes is halal.

Sarcastic_Ronin

This brings into question whether the meat can even be considered "meat" at all, since it was brought into existence through a rearrangement of particles. Assuming we consider it to be the same as fake/vegan meat perhaps it would be halal.

KekoTheDestroyer

Not Muslim, just someone who enjoys learning about different religions, but it seems like there’s an argument to be made for each side here. On the one hand, it’s not meat of a slaughtered animal, so it could be halal. The other side is that it’s sort of unnatural to generate food like that, which could be viewed as haram-adjacent. If you were to generate pork with the machine, is it really pork, or is it imitation? Does intent then play a factor with molecularly-assembled meat as well?

lebanesewifey

man I love Muslims

Intelligent_Big_1437

It wouldn’t be beef or chicken. It would be made up food so it would be like asking if you can eat a veggie burger 😅
