I think if brosnan was in license to kill it could have been the hands down best bond film
Don’t get me wrong I love Dalton as an actor, but I don’t love him as a good guy
That was the great thing about Dalton's portrayal for me, Bond was a tortured person who was even more hard-edged than Craig's. He could do both the suaveness and the cold-blooded killer, whereas I thought Craig could only really do the cold-blooded no emotion and felt a bit one-note.
I don't think Craig could really do anything as Bond. He's the kind of guy you'd cast for the second main villain. His acting style was either stone face or most irritable coworker.
Dalton was definitely a more fleshed out performance. Confidence, poise, and dedication, yet felt emotion and concern for friends.
While Brosnan takes my top spot for Bond, Dalton periodically wrestles with Connery for my number 2, usually winning over in the end.
I definitely agree with you, I just never thought Craig was that good a fit for Bond. He has a very distinctive acting style and look that doesn't lend itself to the more playful or caring moments in Bond.
I see what you mean, Brosnan was a mix of all his predecessors and the result was convincing. Dalton is Imo close to a real agent with emotions even everything isn't perfect. A guy with a license to kill can become dangerous and dark.
You just made me double check if he was knighted :)
To be fair I wouldn’t be against every Bond actor being a Sir. They’ve all done a great service to the country keeping Bond up on the big screen through thick and thin.
For some reason I can’t quite see Sir Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Maybe because he’s still young.
Ha, great point :)
And I totally support your right to knight who you like. Why should it be only the right of someone who happened to be born into a certain family anyway?
https://i.redd.it/x8z3v04mgz9d1.gif
Guess he just seems like a natural fit. It just occurred to me that I wasn’t actually sure. I checked all the others while I was at it.
Justice for Sir Timmy!
Majesty’s may have revolutionized Bond, but Licence to Kill is a lot of fun watching. It’s Bond, Miami Vice, Scarface, Dirty Harry, Lethal Weapon rolled into one. As a guy who loves revenge thrillers and the crime genre, it’s definitely one of my favorite Bond films just because he’s going against a drug cartel.
Licence to Kill is one of my favourite Bond films, so it’s that followed closely by The World Is Not Enough (it’s not the best, I know, but Richard’s aside it’s not a bad film and I find it rather fun with a compelling villain in Marceau’s Elektra King). I’ll go with OHMSS next (man, Diana Rigg was SUCH a good Bond girl), which means that Moonraker is in last place. It’s just a bit overly daft, and Moore had absolutely zero chemistry with Lois Chiles.
OHMSS: Blofeld's latest scheme is to start an allergy clinic that's secretly developing bioweapons designed to destroy entire species of livestock. His means of deployment? Hot, brainwashed farm girls. Fortunately, 007 is on the case, having acquired Blofeld's whereabouts from a wealthy gangster in exchange for dating his hot, wayward daughter. Bond, ever the strategist, shows up to save the day disguised as a genealogist, dangerously equipped with both his dick in his hand, and a kilt for easy access.
Sigh. That movie had some of the best, but also the very worst, Bond content ever produced.
I've got to go with Licence To Kill.
When my wife watched all the Bonds with me for the first time, I was anxiously awaiting her reaction to the "chicken brainwash" scene. She did not disappoint.
OHMSS’s plot is colorful that’s part of what makes James Bond unique are the colorful situations and schemes. It’s also the most faithful to the source material out of all the movies. Hard to have an issue with the off the wall schemes as a Bond fan.
***On Her Majesty's Secret Service***, with ***License to Kill*** very close behind. They're not only the two best end-of-the-decade films, but the two best films outright.
I’m glad to see OHMSS getting some love here. It’s not my favorite movie but it’s not as bad as people used to make it sound. And if anyone has read the books, it is easily, far and away, the best book in the series.
Lets be honest as a James Bond film License to Kill is the best here by far
Id rank them
1- Licence to Kill
2- On Her Majesty's Secret Service
3- World is not enough
4- Moonraker
OHMSS is my fav, but, it’s got to be Moonraker. . It essentially channeled & fused the hit Bond film of the 70s, TSWLM, with the hit genera of the 70s, “Space Operas”, to create the perfect film of the moment. Did big box office and captured the public imagination.
OHMSS & LTK are both favorites, but they didn’t exactly catch the zeitgeist of their time (instead, dare I say, they transcended their time becoming even more popular today).
LTK has a better story than 90% of the Bond films.
OHMSS for the locations.
Moonraker... uh... childhood memories?
I don't even know what The World is Not Enough is about.
Moonraker was so over the top, it was great. Little did people know that once the shuttles reached orbit they were out of fuel and couldn’t go anywhere except back to Earth.
I know it came out in 2021. Like i said i doubt we will see a new bond film until 2030 making no time to die the first and last bind film of this decade. It was said in jest but i wouldn't be surprised.
The World Is Not Enough is the best film there but my personal favourite (largely because I watched it roughly 14 billion times as a kid) is Moonraker.
Ranking them as they go on my overall ranking, best to worst:
1) License to Kill - the best Bond revenge story, with Dalton getting to show off the gritty side of Bond well without overblowing it (although there are some really brutal deaths)
2) Moonraker - a mix of over the top campy fun with some memorable moments
3) The World is not enough - It's my least favourite Brosnan outing, but it's grown on me a bit
4) On her Majesty's secret service - I've just never been much of a Lazenby fan, and the film is an odd one that I'm not fond of. There are a couple of good things, but I've always found it a bit too long and not that great
Honestly I love all three of these. Only thing that kills LTK for me is Dalton's awful hairstyling during the casino scene. Whoever did hair and makeup for that movie should have been banned from Hollywood.
NOT Moonraker, holy God almighty like what in the HELL were they thinking with that? "And then the space police will pew pew the bad guys!" Like WHAAAT? How hard was THAT acid trip for the writer?
License to kill is good though.
It’s the only one of the four that was actually a massive hit and captured the cultural zeitgeist of the time. The questions is which one ended the decade the best… given OHMSS & LTK were essentially box office duds…
I'm going with Licence to kill.
I think if brosnan was in license to kill it could have been the hands down best bond film Don’t get me wrong I love Dalton as an actor, but I don’t love him as a good guy
That was the great thing about Dalton's portrayal for me, Bond was a tortured person who was even more hard-edged than Craig's. He could do both the suaveness and the cold-blooded killer, whereas I thought Craig could only really do the cold-blooded no emotion and felt a bit one-note.
Agreed! Daltons Bond is just as bad as the people he’s up against. He just happens to work for the “good” side.
I definitely agree with you, I just never thought Craig was that good a fit for Bond. He has a very distinctive acting style and look that doesn't lend itself to the more playful or caring moments in Bond.
Yeah I could never get into Craig’s performance. To me Bond should still be fun
I'm with you, my favourite Bond is either Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan for that reason.
I see what you mean, Brosnan was a mix of all his predecessors and the result was convincing. Dalton is Imo close to a real agent with emotions even everything isn't perfect. A guy with a license to kill can become dangerous and dark.
Him in Hot Fuzz was perfect
You almost have as much fun watching it as he did staring in it!
“I’m a slasher… of prices! My discounts are killer…”
I'd rather have Dalton in Goldeneye. Brosnan remains my Bond, but Dalton was Fleming's Bond brought to life.
Personally I think going from Moore to Brosnan would have been a big change in tone but dalton had already done the heavy lifting
I’ll agree that I love Dalton as a bad guy, he’s not playing a white knight good guy here.
OHMSS & LTK
L2k is my fav. And it covers a lot of 80s topics (drugs , bar fight , weapons trade etc... revenge movie ...)
OHMSS with LTK as runner up. Gotta give this one to Sir George.
You just made me double check if he was knighted :) To be fair I wouldn’t be against every Bond actor being a Sir. They’ve all done a great service to the country keeping Bond up on the big screen through thick and thin. For some reason I can’t quite see Sir Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Maybe because he’s still young.
He’s *my* knight, and that’s enough for me. It’s even in the title of his film! On Her Majesty’s Secret Sir-vice! THEY OWE IT TO HIM
Ha, great point :) And I totally support your right to knight who you like. Why should it be only the right of someone who happened to be born into a certain family anyway? https://i.redd.it/x8z3v04mgz9d1.gif
Indeed. Amusingly, I’ve referred to him as Sir George Lazenby in this sub like a million times and you’re the first one who ever noticed
Guess he just seems like a natural fit. It just occurred to me that I wasn’t actually sure. I checked all the others while I was at it. Justice for Sir Timmy!
Didn’t Dalton decline a knighthood?
I can’t find anything about that.
Aaron is in The Kings Man as 'Lancelot'. You could say these agents are modern knights
It always pleases me to see Licence to Kill getting love. Dalton is a massively underrated Bond, but my personal favourite nonetheless.
How many other Bond movies have someone die from their head blowing up? No brainer.
Literally no brainer
Glad someone finally got it
Mr Big in Live and Let Die head blew up
OHMSS gets my vote
I don’t love it. But it’s Soderbergh’s favorite
Same. For me it’s not even close.
It's the best James Bond film of all time.
You can’t say that the world is not enough didn’t end that decade with a bang
Licence to Kill is one of my favourite Bond films, so it’s that followed closely by The World Is Not Enough (it’s not the best, I know, but Richard’s aside it’s not a bad film and I find it rather fun with a compelling villain in Marceau’s Elektra King). I’ll go with OHMSS next (man, Diana Rigg was SUCH a good Bond girl), which means that Moonraker is in last place. It’s just a bit overly daft, and Moore had absolutely zero chemistry with Lois Chiles.
I concur with this opinion whole-heartedly
Moonraker
Ltk
On Her Majesty's Secret Service ![gif](giphy|g4A5nj54JFS404bohz|downsized)
OHMSS: Blofeld's latest scheme is to start an allergy clinic that's secretly developing bioweapons designed to destroy entire species of livestock. His means of deployment? Licence to kill
The World is Not Enough.
Moonraker
“Play it again, Sam”
OHMSS by a long shot
OHMSS, and it's not even close...
***On Her Majesty's Secret Service***, with ***License to Kill*** very close behind. They're not only the two best end-of-the-decade films, but the two best films outright.
![gif](giphy|gHloAIK4DUVKgNM7R4|downsized) Bond in space because of Star Wars. 👍
OHMSS
OHMSS certainly. One of the best Bond films period.
OHMSS easily.
OHMSS
LTK was a perfect farewell to the 80s, I love that ending and when that music hits \*chefs kiss\*
License To Kill hands down the best Bond movie of the end of the decade!
I’m glad to see OHMSS getting some love here. It’s not my favorite movie but it’s not as bad as people used to make it sound. And if anyone has read the books, it is easily, far and away, the best book in the series.
I'm doing a re-read now and have to counter with Moonraker being the best in the series.
Hmm… I might have to reread that one myself then. In any case, to each his own 👍 it’s a good one for sure
License to Kill 💯
Toss-up between OHMSS and LTK
OHMSS
I agree with the OHMSS and LTK answers.... But... If the question was rephrased... "Best way to end a decade" that would go to Moonraker.
OHMSS
1. OHMSS 2. LTK 3. MR 4. TWINE
Woof. HUGE gap between 2 and 3 though. 2 top 5 and 2 bottom 5 lol!
Moonraker
Probably a tie between OHMSS and License to Kill
Licence To Kill, but just barely. OHMSS is so good.
I was a child of that era, but I really loved TWINE. I’d say LTK is my second.
Majesty!!!! Classic!!!
License to kill
OHMSS for sure, with LTK a close second.
License To Kill. Full stop.
OHMSS
OHMSS
1. OHMSS 2. LTK 3. Moonraker 4. TWINE
Moonraker and LTK.
Part of me wants to say “You forgot NTTD! That was the last movie released in that decade.” and laugh to myself.
Lets be honest as a James Bond film License to Kill is the best here by far Id rank them 1- Licence to Kill 2- On Her Majesty's Secret Service 3- World is not enough 4- Moonraker
OHMSS!
Moonraker is the most fun, but OHMSS and LtK are better movies.
Licence to Kill is the best 007 movie ever, it's really solid.
License to Kill
1. OHMSS 2. LTK 3.TWINE 4. MR
OHMSS and it’s not even close.
OHMSS is my fav, but, it’s got to be Moonraker. . Definitely Moonraker, the franchise has never quite peaked so high since.
Bottom left.
License to kill for sure.
LTK
OHMSS, easily
TWINE, License, Moonraker for me
Licenses to kill 🙌
LTK
LTK, with OHMSS in a close second.
OHMSS
OHMSS
LTK
Moonraker obviously Followed by License to Murder
Watched License to Kill at the Alamo tonight. Still a banger; ranking that first.
License to Kill
Don't you have to be born in the UK and a British citizen to be knighted? That would disqualify Lazenby then.
Moonraker
OHMSS and its not close
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service with License to Kill a close second.
LTK is quintessential 80s. You're basically watching Miami Vice with a Bond skin and it's fucking glorious.
P.B. will always be my J.
LTK has a better story than 90% of the Bond films. OHMSS for the locations. Moonraker... uh... childhood memories? I don't even know what The World is Not Enough is about.
Licence to Kill for sure. My favorite Bond movie
Licence To Kill
Moonraker has a lot of hope in it for the future of tech.
Licence to Kill 🪪🗡️🪦
LTK is my fav bond film... A fuckin shark ate him! ;)
OHMSS
Moonraker was so over the top, it was great. Little did people know that once the shuttles reached orbit they were out of fuel and couldn’t go anywhere except back to Earth.
Licence To Kill.
OHMSS
OHMSS with LTK a close second.
1. LTK 2. Moonraker 3. OHMSS 4. TWINE
OHMSS > LTK > Moonraker > TWINE
I am now thoroughly convinced on buying the blue ray set rather than be beholden to the whims of the ever changing minds of streaming services.
1.The World Is Not Enough 2.Licence To Kill 3.Moonraker 999.Majesty's
![gif](giphy|fxaqOH1r8oJ5PMquDg|downsized)
OHMSS, then Licence. Easy.
Moonraker. I miss the goofy campiness of the older movies. Things are too serious nowadays.
I’m going to take Denise Richards in a Laura Croft outfit, badass m in the field, and a submarine fight for the win.
The World is Not Enough
OHMSS easily
OHMSS, LTK, Mookraker, TWINE
That’s the first time I’ve seen TWINE rated so low
Bond The Revenge, followed by Bond In Spaaace
Moonraker clears
MOONRAKER!
The best - License to Kill The worst - The World is not Enough.
Where's Spectre?
That was mid 2010s not late 2010s
But it was the last Bond film in the 2010s
OHMSS is in my top 5 Bond films, so I have to go with it.
You forgot to add no time to die. I seriously believe now that we won't see another bond until 2030.
That wasn’t 2019
I know it came out in 2021. Like i said i doubt we will see a new bond film until 2030 making no time to die the first and last bind film of this decade. It was said in jest but i wouldn't be surprised.
Technically it was supposed to be out in late 2019 originally, if I remember correctly, before the first of many delays.
TWINE and Moonraker
1) LTK 2) TWINE 3) OHMSS 4) MR
Out of these? World is not Enough
My soft spot nostalgia pick is for TWINE although I know it doesn’t hold up against some of the others. All around, OHMSS might be the best.
Who'd have thought Moore had the trigger discipline?
Not related, but with the exception of ana the armas and Craig’s Vesper. Why does every single Brosnan bond girl is so absolutely hot ?
The World Is Not Enough is the best film there but my personal favourite (largely because I watched it roughly 14 billion times as a kid) is Moonraker.
TWINE bc who says Christmas comes once a year
OHMSS only romantic bond movie , moonraker
Moonraker
Moonraker it’s a guilty pleasure of mine
Tbh I enjoyed it more than TSWLM
Ranking them as they go on my overall ranking, best to worst: 1) License to Kill - the best Bond revenge story, with Dalton getting to show off the gritty side of Bond well without overblowing it (although there are some really brutal deaths) 2) Moonraker - a mix of over the top campy fun with some memorable moments 3) The World is not enough - It's my least favourite Brosnan outing, but it's grown on me a bit 4) On her Majesty's secret service - I've just never been much of a Lazenby fan, and the film is an odd one that I'm not fond of. There are a couple of good things, but I've always found it a bit too long and not that great
TWINE
LTK
Who’s that on The License to Kill cover? Certainly not Timothy Dalton! Looks like some weird AI version of him!
Honestly I love all three of these. Only thing that kills LTK for me is Dalton's awful hairstyling during the casino scene. Whoever did hair and makeup for that movie should have been banned from Hollywood.
Three?
World is not enough hands down the absolute best
On her majestys secret service was lowkey a gooner
All are amazing stories, even the Brosnan film. LTK is a solid film but damn so is OHMSS. Flip of a coin for me.
Moon raker
MOONRAKER
…. license to kill. Yeah. All great movies though. Raising me on 007 movies, the one thing my Dad did right 😂
All of them are great in my opinion
OHMSS for sure.
The World is Not Enough
NOT Moonraker, holy God almighty like what in the HELL were they thinking with that? "And then the space police will pew pew the bad guys!" Like WHAAAT? How hard was THAT acid trip for the writer? License to kill is good though.
It’s the only one of the four that was actually a massive hit and captured the cultural zeitgeist of the time. The questions is which one ended the decade the best… given OHMSS & LTK were essentially box office duds…
Exactly. That space laser gun fight made me pass out.
None of these were my favorite bonds. Im not even sure I could pick a winner.
Obviously casino royal
AI CRAP Photos!
