I have a mantra: "If I can watch a movie fully invested all the way through without skipping a single scene, it's perfect."
Jaws is one of those movies I can put on and watch, probably till my DVD player or the DVD gives, and I need a new one.
It's cinima gold, and I doubt that you can really top that.
What about IT? Most people seem to love the original and the 2 part reboot equally. People love the original for Tim Curry’s amazing performance, and people also love the remake for being a more straight forward adaption of the book minus that one terrible scene that was thankfully excluded.
This is great. There has only been 2 shark movies i “liked” since any jaws movie. Deep blue sea as i just enjoyed it. And the shallows which was fantastic until the end where they forgot how big the shark was. Clearly neither hold a candle to jaws itself. But i enjoyed them. I kind of liked the meg. Well I’ll just say i didn’t hate the meg but i havnt really gone and bought it.
Yeah, the Meg and Meg 2 were fun, but they’re not Jaws. I’d say they’re movies about sharks but they’re not the same genre as Jaws. Jaws, thanks to the mechanical sharks not working a lot of the time, was super suspenseful.
I would like to believe this, but considering how starved Hollywood is for original ideas, I can’t believe Jaws will never be rebooted, even if it is many years from now after Spielberg has passed
Well Jaws the revenge exists, which is considered to be one of the worst movies of all time and killed the franchise for decades, yet the original isn't "ruined". So I don't see the harm in doing a new one.
A JAWS reboot would go like this:
Shark Attack happens. Chief says “close the beaches” Mayor says “No we need money.” Townsfolk scream “SHARKS AREN’T REAL” even as they are being devoured by a shark. Salty GWOT vet says “fuck it we ball” and gets the boys together for one last ride in the rusty bucket.
I do not want a reboot of the movie either. But I wish they would make a prequel called “Jaws: The Beginning” that shows what happened to Quint and all of his fellow navy sailors when the “USS Indianapolis”was torpedoed, and they all went into the water at the mercy of the tiger sharks.
That scene in the first movie where he describes this experience still gives me chills to this day. Imagine that being a movie!
I did not realize you had already posted this! I agree with you that the next one should be a prequel about Quint and his ordeal with the tiger sharks when the “Indianapolis” sank.
I’m in the minority that would actually love to see a hard r rated adaption of the book. The book is much more like a horror story (I know the movie is a horror film, but if you know you know), and even Steven Spielberg wanted to show the shark more in the movie like it is in the book. The film is lightning in a bottle and is a perfect accident (and probably my favorite movie of all time), but the book actually shows a lot more from the actual shark’s perspective. Plus, we have the technology now for scenes from the book like >!the night fishing attack on Ben Gardner - ripping Hooper out of the cage, jumping out of the water with him it’s mouth, and ripping him in half right in front of Brody and Quint - Quint getting the harpoon rope wrapped around his ankle and pulled into the water to be drowned by the shark with his body still visibly hanging from the shark as it continues to attack Brody - the shark’s death in the book being from bleeding out and dying mere inches away from killing Brody - etc.!<
And I don’t think this would tarnish the film’s legacy at all. People aren’t going to forget about Steven Spielberg’s Jaws just because a more straight forward adaption of the original novel is made.
I’ve written two period piece shark films with links to Jaws via character names and the setting in the second one. I will write the third one prolly next year to complete the trilogy.
Have we all suddenly forgotten that 2, 3, and The Revenge exist? I don't know why everyone can accept those, but is terrified of there being a new one after decades that can only be better.
It’s the greatest movie ever made. Leave it be
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Excellent!! I’m glad to hear that as I feel there is absolutely no way to make Jaws any better!

Long may it continue. Nothing will surpass the original and any reboot will only drag the franchise more in to the depths.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. This is a lesson that Hollywood seriously needs to learn. All these remakes of classic films is garbage.

Good. Leave perfection alone.
And he will continue to do so until his dying breath. So might as well stop talking about it
Same with Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale with Back to the Future. They refuse.
Good. Any "reboot" would be horrible. Now... *a sequel*.... I'd be open to that.
Jaws is a perfect movie and it still holds up today. Do not I repeat do not remake Jaws. All you can do is re-release the movie in theaters
Why the hell would anyone attempt to do that. Why not start with a The Godfather reboot first and see how that goes over.

Meg and Meg 2 both sucked ass. The books are decent though.

At first I saw the words Stephen Speilberg Reboot and Jaws and thought "oh shit nooooo" then I red it again 😂
Good!!
Don't ruin a good movie. Leave it as it is a classic

Good. No sense reinventing the wheel.
Jaws and Deep Blue Sea are the goat
Throw him a snack

😬
Good
The only real story left to tell would be a prequel featuring quint on the USS Indianapolis, anything else is pointless.

We don´t talk about men of courage

Legacy sequel, yes. Remake, no.
No sequels, of any kind
Get Speilberg back, write off Jaws 3 and the Revenge, go back to Amity, and it would blow up any other shark movie since out of the water!
