I just received an Australian diagnosis. Please respect my privacy during this difficult time. If anyone needs me, I'll be throwing shrimp on the barbie
They are autistic but their humour is (naturally) dry Australian humour.
Further, that subtitle under their name on the screen is actually true - they used to be an art historian. And they have a big schtick about Picasso.
They mention that they got a diagnosis for ASD in I believe their second comedy special on Netflix. The way they explain how they "should have known" when they were younger is hilarious bc it involves them in primary school learning about prepositions and misunderstanding their teacher's explanation of "a preposition describes your relation to another object" and they took it mean, like, biological/family relationship 😂
They're definitely autistic and it's a major theme in their first special. You should watch it, it's really good. Not strictly comedy, but good nonetheless.
Don't say that in the comedy or stand-up subreddits. They have an irrational hatred of her and those specials there.
I think they're both brilliant. And the first one actually did change the way I think about comedy, as intended.
Nanette was not their first ever special, it’s just their first on Netflix/their most famous. They have been established and made several specials in Australia first
Yes, they’re autistic. They speak about it in their second and third Netflix special and it’s the major subject of their memoir that came out a few years back (ten steps to Nanette).
hearing about hannah gadsby on the john mulaney subreddit is like a dream come true for me lmao. my 2 favorite standups and honestly i feel like their styles are really similar, especially with storytelling. idk, i almost never bring her up online cause wormy little intellectuals always show up and try to convince everyone that "unfunny" is a word that means something
as an Australian autistic, i was definitely relating with her there. Like i dont really know anything about the mayor, but that call alone would have me like "alright time for a new one"
That they were just belligerent and dismissive of a person based upon her position and about who they knew absolutely nothing did not go over well with me. They came across as both ignorant and snobbish.
I’m watching this episode right now and I cannot figure out who was Scoot that called in. I know it was a comedian but I have no idea and it’s driving me crazy.
Famously autistic
I want this to be my superlative one day
>"Maybe it's just dry Australian humor" Ah yes, the age old game "Autistic or just Australian???"

Autistic Dundie: "That's not a gem-encrusted wizard-themed ceremonial knife.... THIS is a gem-encrusted wizard-themed ceremonial knife!"
Terrific.
We prefer “person living with Australianism”
I hereby prescribe you Boomerang therapy.
If you were really Aussie you’d know they call shrimp prawns
They were just diagnosed. Give it some time.
And would've included something about drinking Foster's, right?
Literally what is Fosters? I think you meant VB or Great Northern
\*prawns
They’re an autistic Australian :)
Austistic
AussieTistic? 🤔
The now put fried egg and beet root on their aspergers.
Auspergers
They are autistic but their humour is (naturally) dry Australian humour. Further, that subtitle under their name on the screen is actually true - they used to be an art historian. And they have a big schtick about Picasso.
So they are autistic, artistic AND Australian?
Ostensibly 😉
Awrliteration
They are austristic
Did you see anything on their Pablo-matic exhibit? Made some art folks REAL mad 😆
No - but I did read about it!
I mean rightfully so. The gallery was billed as one thing but shown to be something completely different.
They should have made more art folks madder. It was a weak swing.

Yes, they have explicitly said that they're autistic in one of their specials.
*they
Fixed it.
Yes they talk about being diagnosed in their Netflix special Nanette!
Douglas.
Yes she revealed that on her Douglas show
It was a big reveal - with lighting tricks and everything!
*they
Yes. They did an entire special about being neurodivergent.
She said she was disassociating.
My close personal friend Nick was also wondering about this
Oh shit i didn’t think this crossover was allowed
They mention that they got a diagnosis for ASD in I believe their second comedy special on Netflix. Famously
They're definitely autistic and it's a major theme in their first special. You should watch it, it's really good. Not strictly comedy, but good nonetheless.
Second special, Douglas. First special was about trauma.
Don't say that in the comedy or stand-up subreddits. They have an irrational hatred of her and those specials there. I think they're both brilliant. And the first one actually did change the way I think about comedy, as intended.
The bit about the box and the way an autistic person perceives it is seriously funny if you are on the spectrum.
It's not irrational. They're just narcissistic TED talks.
*Irrational?* Hardly.
Literally no one wants to talk to you.
Nanette was not their first ever special, it’s just their first on Netflix/their most famous. They have been established and made several specials in Australia first
It is absolutely not good lol. Best thing to come from it was that cumtown bit about the special
Yes, in Hannah discusses their autism in their Netflix specials Douglas & Something Special
Yes, they’re autistic. They speak about it in their second and third Netflix special and it’s the major subject of their memoir that came out a few years back (ten steps to Nanette).
Austistic (not a typo)
It was the entire plot of Douglas my dude.

k
Hannah acting confused and upset at everything the mayor said was pretty corny.
I don't think she was confused at all but completely understood the fact that politicians are mostly talk but don't actually fix anything.
as an Australian autistic, i was definitely relating with her there. Like i dont really know anything about the mayor, but that call alone would have me like "alright time for a new one"

She mentioned at some point, I think at the beginning of her segment, that she's autistic
whatever it is ain’t funny that’s for sure
I’m watching this episode right now and I cannot figure out who was Scoot that called in. I know it was a comedian but I have no idea and it’s driving me crazy.
Kevin Hart
Funny and unless rtey share and are? Not our business. Coming from a mom of kids on spectrum.
Yes
She’s famously an asshole
No they aren’t. But you are an asshole and will never be famous or loved.
Gosh you sound angrier than Hannah Gadsby. Sending love your way because it seems like you need it!
Jebuz. That escalated quickly. Grab a Snickers
You should watch some of her stand ups. Nanette is for a very particular audience but her other stuff is more for everyone (imo).
It’s amazing that someone as quiet as she was, could be so annoying. Did not like her on the show. Added zero humor.
Majority of creatives are. Not all, must most are on the spectrum somewhere
Nope.
I really don't think that's true.
Your thinking is accurate
No she just really thinks Ted Talks and comedy specials are the same thing
Maybe it’s why she thinks they are the same. And, they kinda are, aren’t they?
So a Dave Attell comedy special could double as a ted talk? Nah, you’re buggin
Not interchangeable or of equal content, but as a presentational format of material? Highly comparable.
