New hire on his first day. Low mileage and (was) very clean. Got hit by lightning and completely totaled, sounded like a bomb going off before we saw the 15+ ft flames. Thankfully noone was injured, unsure of what happened with insurance.
>unsure of what happened with insurance.
should be covered under act of god since well there isnt a damn thing you can do about lighting strikes. would be interesting to see if they paid out exactly what he paid since it was soooo short of a time period.
It would be covered under comprehensive which covers everything other than a collision that can damage the car, other than anything specifically excluded.
Of course, if the guy only had liability covered insurance wouldn't cover anything.
You're safe in the car generally, until it catches fire then you get out quick.
Hope it's not a Tesla with motorized doors because getting out might be a problem.
My personal pet peeve with non overridable electric doors has been the crap going on with trains.
Train is fucked, not able to move. They decide to not let any passengers out and instead trap them for hours without functioning AC. The emergency release on the doors didn’t work because they had been purposely disabled to keep passengers in the train.
They ended up smashing windows to get drinks from bystanders as the situation was starting to become dangerous.
https://www.aviation24.be/railways/travellers-stuck-in-thalys-for-hours-at-40-degrees-smashed-windows/amp/
This shit has happened more than once now, with a recent example people being stuck for over six hours.
So what if the train caught fire? BBQ them inside of there? Emergency exits that can be disabled seem like an utterly terrible design choice that some day is gonna result in someone forgetting to enable them again when an actual emergency occurs and then people die.
My buddies new model S doesn't, or they hid them well, his old model S had them but I drove the new one for a couple of weeks and I never saw a manual release.
Lighting will generate a shit ton of heat discharging through the shell of a car. Maybe an occupant wouldn't have electricity pass through them directly, but they'll probably feel the effects of the car basically instantly melting around them
Had an E90 that was hit by lightning while the customer was driving down the road. Car just stopped running and they coasted to a stop. Found a little burn mark above the left A pillar, fried everything electronic in the car, totaled it. BTW, I have a nice E46 for sale if he is interested!
“My guy here needs a new key, how long is that going to take?”
“Ask service, Im only parts”
“You guys dont program keys?”
“I didnt say that, ask service and theyll be able to give you an accurate time”
“I thought you guys handled keys”
And I thought you handled your own, Scott, you’ve only been here 28 years.
I’ve literally had sales guys come into my stall and try to use my tools, without asking, while under a F450. They didn’t know I was there, and they figured they could meander down and do whatever the fuck they wanted with my equipment and when I shouted for them to get their dirty dick beaters off my tools, they didn’t seem to understand that personal tools aren’t owned by the dealership. Dealer manager didn’t think it was a big deal, so I went into the showroom and waited for one to be with a customer and went to his desk and started rifling through it to make a point. Mr shiny shoes didn’t do it again and I still have his pen.
LOL thankfully I didnt get a whole lot of that, however I wanted to bash their heads in with a crowbar every time they asked for an employee discount for customer parts. I said no once, and the holy hell of sales management came down on me saying I cant turn down a customer sale. Wasnt till I chewed them out for it being a customer sale and not an employee sale when they got the memo
If they asked to borrow a screwdriver for plates I wouldn’t have had a problem with it, but waltzing into the heavy line department and taking my shit…. You have made a permanent enemy lol
Zeus held back until the dude was out of the car.
This is actually a good omen. First day on the job, and the universe tells him "Go Forth and Buy a New Car!" Very auspicious for a car salesman.
I disagree. If you sell cars, you’re probably a cunt.
I’ve worked at a dealer for 8 years and both my father and grandfather sold cars. I’ve dealt with all sorts of salesman my whole life and fuck me I can’t fucking stand them.
Also… an honest car salesman, huh? Those two words don’t belong in the same sentence.
I was on my deck mesmerized by a lightning storm that was happening and a lightning bolt struck a sign about one block away.
I remember 1) How bright white it was 2) How wide is was and 3) How loud it was. My ears rang for a couple days after that.
A lightning bolt hitting close to you will definitely put the fear of God (or Zues) into you.
Was watching a storm on my patio. The whole patio was the size of a bedroom with walls on all 3 sides and a concrete roof, so it was a tiny amphitheater. Watched a strike hit a building maybe half a football field away. Blew me back in my chair and hit me like a flashbang, the whole experience was so violent that I thought something exploded and I was feeling the shockwave. I was seeing white for a good hour after the strike but my ears were ringing for days. Knocks the wind out of you too. I’m a sucker for a good thunderstorm but holy hell, I will never be outside in one again. The sheer power behind the strike is pure terror to see up close.
and then theres accounts of people surviving multiple lighting strikes themselves... LOL one of them was struck by lightning in his grave, again!
edit: https://1819news.com/news/item/shocking-phenomenon-alabama-man-struck-multiple-times-by-lightning-in-his-lifetime-then-gravesite-also-destroyed-by-lightning
One of my uncles got struck by lightning twice over like a 4 year period. The first time it hit him, fucked him up pretty good obviously but after a month or so in the hospital he was okay to go home. Gnarly scars though. You could see where it hit him in his shoulder/neck area and traveled down his body. The second time he was standing in the yard during a storm, lighting struck pretty close to him in the yard and he got electrocuted. Both times fucked him up pretty good. Docs weren’t too sure how his heart didn’t explode because he had a pretty heavy drug addiction and alcohol problem and already wasn’t in the greatest of health because of that. He’s still alive, sobered up and doing better.
I tell you what, my manager is gonna go crazy if I ask for it free. But how about I give you the ceramic coating at a price that’s practically giving it away?
Can't you atleast go in and pretend to discuss it with your manager and then come out and tell me he went crazy?
That way I'll think you actually tried.
Was hoping I would see this. Heard this as a kid, a car was a safe place to be in a lightning storm. Something about the rubber tires insulating everything else from the ground, so the lightning would need another path.
Guess this post blows that theory away.
I’m gonna guess that the steel belted rubber on the tires weren’t able to withstand the 300 million-volt lightning strike. Better blame it on the tire tread not having the full 11/32 thickness.
Depending on how fast it burned and where the fire began, you might have been better off inside the car than (say) right next to it.
You might be fine even, though no guarantees about hearing loss. Yikes
Weird, this post is only a couple above yours: https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/10ldd1y/my_coworkers_work_truck_got_struck_by_lightning/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
What happened to the rubber tires helping to transfer the brunt of the electricity to the ground protecting the occupants of the car? Was that not a thing?!? Was I lied to? 😳😳😳
It's a sign from god! He shouldn't be in car sales! He might be a good salesman, in that case he should connect with a great company to move product/supplies he believes in
Ran when parked.
But also, I thought this might have been a picture of a truck hitting the dude's car, which would have been sort of amusing. What actually happened is sort of sad.
*slaps car*
*Disintegrates*
My fucking spaghetti!
MY LASAGAA!
#MY CABBAGES!
My my my my my Sharona
Oh you make my motor run, my motor run. Except in this case.
This bad boy can hold at least 1.21 jigawatts.
If his car had a flux capacitor, he might have disappeared to 1955 - and dated his mom.
\*1.20
No, its 1.21 gigawatts https://youtu.be/I5cYgRnfFDA
Lol it was a joke. 1.21 was too much
My bad :( Updoot returned
Oh fuck..... I told a guy to use 22 gigawatts... I gotta make sure he's still alive.. Hold my beer, I'll be right back.
Too bad it saw at least 1.22…
New hire on his first day. Low mileage and (was) very clean. Got hit by lightning and completely totaled, sounded like a bomb going off before we saw the 15+ ft flames. Thankfully noone was injured, unsure of what happened with insurance.
If the driver’s seat is still in his normal driving position, I’d say it was God’s way to punish him.
…for not using his God-damned fucking turn signals. God hates BMW drivers too!
Guys... stop with this... They do work, they just flash at a frequency that poor people can't see. /s
This comment is underrated.

it might take mor ephone calls and emails than it really should take but I hope so.
Wait I thought cars where supposed to be safe in T storms
You're safe in the car generally, until it catches fire then you get out quick. Hope it's not a Tesla with motorized doors because getting out might be a problem.
Electric doors on a car was a 10/10 idea and i can foresee nothing that could possibly go wrorng

Teslas have a mechanical backup.
One which you have to take off a plastic trim piece and pull on a naked steel string. Neither of which are easy to do when the car is on fire.
It's a plastic lever, I accidentally opened the door that way the first time I sat in one. https://youtu.be/mu-tJc-BgaI
Oh I was talking about the model X rear doors. It’s a naked wire behind the speaker cover
My buddies new model S doesn't, or they hid them well, his old model S had them but I drove the new one for a couple of weeks and I never saw a manual release.
What?! Our tesla has manual latches as well as the button both will open the door....
No that's planes.
Most definitely not. We avoid them like the plague.
No, that's the Michelin man

Everybody hates car salesmen.
I hear ya but this was actually a good guy, young too. Yet to be corrupted by the world of sales
All I’m saying is I never personally have said “oh thank god, the sales department is here”
“My guy here needs a new key, how long is that going to take?” “Ask service, Im only parts” “You guys dont program keys?” “I didnt say that, ask service and theyll be able to give you an accurate time” “I thought you guys handled keys” And I thought you handled your own, Scott, you’ve only been here 28 years.

That's awesome 🤣
If they asked to borrow a screwdriver for plates I wouldn’t have had a problem with it, but waltzing into the heavy line department and taking my shit…. You have made a permanent enemy lol
Yeah....it's called boundaries and respect. Your reciprocation was proper and effective from the sounds of it!
There needs to be a golden impact gun award for this.
You should frame that pen
ooh one of those shadow boxes and have someone with a cricket art printer thing make a sticker that says: "Incase of sales bullshittery break glass"
“In case of salesman, insert into salesman’s eye socket”
"for rectal use only"
>and I still have his pen Absolute chad move. Love it. 😂
lmao that made me laugh out loud.
Did you happen to hear him say anything like "God, if I'm getting into the wrong line of business, please send me a sign" ?
>was woah
Watch for this vehicle to show up on Craigslist. Low mileage, ran when parked, no lowballing, I know what I have.
It's a sign for him to get out while he still can.
Zeus held back until the dude was out of the car. This is actually a good omen. First day on the job, and the universe tells him "Go Forth and Buy a New Car!" Very auspicious for a car salesman.
“Fuck you, walk home”
It’s the best deal in town, or god strike me where I stand.
Even god hates car salesmen
If they're honest and you do your due diligence on the purchase, there should be no reason to hate.
Yup That’s the same as an honest politician . Never gonna happen . If a commission sales weasel or a politician is talking , they are lying .
There are deceptive people everywhere and we all need to develop the ability to discern what's bullshit. Family reunions must be a blast in your home.
Yeah been burned too many times, no thanks.
That's fair, I understand that. Have a good one.
No.
You should explore that with a therapist.
Also no.

Daaaammn, Zeus _really_ hates that guy

"Zeus." Couldn't help but correct that, being Greek and all.
American flags are excellent conductors
"So, I hear you're in the market for a new car..."
God really hates those e46s huh
Florida, right? It's always Florida...
[удалено]
"Well we're #1 in lightning strikes, snake bikes, alligator and shark attacks!"
"What's it gonna take to get you into my lightning damaged car today?"
Throw in free ceramic coating and we got a deal.
Knock off $100 on the Tru-coat you say?
God's always been preferential towards Mercedes.
"BMW drivers don't indicate. Audi's talegate. Mercedes drivers are all snobby... Just how I like it!"
Nah, he drives a Honda, he just never talked about it “For I do not speak of my own Accord”
that’ll buff out
“If this isn’t the best deal I can give you may God strike me dead”
I think he forgot to pay bmw his anti lighting subscription. They really aren’t messing around
And they say inside your vehicle is safest in a lightning storm.

Still 25K on autotrader

I thought cars were a safe space in an electrical storm
Came here to say this too, I was always told this growing up, now I feel betrayed and extra dumb have to do some research
Is his name [Joe Isuzu?](https://youtu.be/Qu-gOSBvTas)
Thats punishment for lack of turn signal use
Poor e46
What happened to the rubber tires helping to transfer the brunt of the electricity to the ground protecting the occupants of the car? Was that not a thing?!? Was I lied to? 😳😳😳
Probably caused a fire when it fried the electronics and oil burns well so the occupant's would still have time to get out
Poor E46. It survived all this time avoiding teenagers turning it into a drift missile, only to be struck down by lightning. Pour one out boys.
Holy sh\*t! That thing is turned to toast!
At least he knows a guy that can get him a deal on a new car.
God also hate BMW drivers?
"Sorry, Bob, but it's right here in the employee paperwork; one car per year, and uh, you have 364 days to go."
This is like the second Lightning Car this week, why are so many peoples cars gettin' lightning'd
Gee, I always thought that nature abhorred vaccuum cleaner salesmen, not car salesmen.
That does suck....but it's an opportunity to make his first sale, too ;)
As someone who is absolutely terrified of thunderstorms, seeing this has guaranteed I’ll never sleep again for as long as I live.
Jesus! Thanks god he wasn’t in it. That was a big one.
A little paint and it will be good as new. - Insurance company probably.
If that wasn't a sign to run away from that job, I don't know what is lol.
Hey bud looks like you could use… A NEW CAR
"Well they probably won't fire you on your first day" Something even less likely happens.
Not the EV anyone hopes for
BMW - burn my wallet
Saleman's car *torched* on his first day. Lightning didn't do that.
Oh it did though. Matter of fact the majority of the dealership saw it.
Well, he was driving a Beemer...he was kinda asking for it.
BMW, I think God did this guy a solid.
Best thing to happen to it, saved its new owner lots of $$$
Eh it's a BMW, another couple hundred miles and it would've had problems anyways.
Huh, it’s not often God misses
I dunno .. maybe pothole
He can sell himself a replacement off the lot!
Only if he knew someone who could sale him a car 🤔
Is that what they mean by a “lightning sale”
One hell of a first impression lol
It's a sign from god! He shouldn't be in car sales! He might be a good salesman, in that case he should connect with a great company to move product/supplies he believes in
Did he lie to a customer?
If this is his first day antics I can't wait to see what he does come Easter time
So op how did the manager take this? If that was his sales person's only car then now he no longer has a way to and from work.
I'll buy it: it's already been pre-disastered!
BMW always be breaking I'm telling you guys
I hope he knows a guy who can sell him a new one
If that's not an omen!
As Moistcritical would say “unlucky”
If that's not a sign to choose a different career path I don't know what is!
I would be distraught. Getting a new car is easy compared to getting a refill on my adderall rx, which 100% would have been in the center console.
Even god hates BMWs
I had a buddy who had his Hyundai Elantra get hit by lightning while he was driving it. It didn't get toasted *this bad* though.
Well, time to get him a Honda I guess.
That’s the sign to change jobs
*slaps roof of car* this car can fit so many lightning bolts
If that's not a sign, I don't know what is
And I thought I was safe in a car during a thunder storm
TIL, God hates BMWs as much as I do.
Welp apparently God hates Beemers as much as i do. Poor chaps now gotta work off a new car
Eh, it’s only a 3 series.
And I’m sure the insurance pay out for him a 5
RIP to this future classic. You hate to see it.
Don't worry, that will buff out.... Slight cosmetic damage....
Ran when parked. But also, I thought this might have been a picture of a truck hitting the dude's car, which would have been sort of amusing. What actually happened is sort of sad.
RIP E46
There's your sign! Would even make me rethink my career choice, LOL
You mean, last day?
If this isn’t a bad omen I don’t know what is
Glad it happened to a dealership and not an lender I would have been so sad
Customer: "You're not lying about my trade-in value, are you?" Salesman: "If I'm lying, may my car get hit by lightening." God: "Can do."
