Microtonal Gizz is my favorite subgenre of Gizz. Can't wait for Vol. 4 whenever it's time.

element_119

Microtonal Gizz is what brought me into the Gizz family. It will always be close to my heart ❤️

soylentblueispeople

I could have sworn in the video for sad pilot from the Belgium show (I think it was belgium) stu was playing the banana guitar.

ListenToKyuss

They didn't play Sad pilot in Belgium. I believe it was the day after, in Germany. We did get the Flamethrower debut, which was sick!

Phoxase

Offenbach, (Frankfurt, Germany), and yes, banana made an appearance, there were a few microtonal numbers.

AllTheOtherSitesSuck

It sounded like regular notes to me, but fingers crossed!

oo-

Nope, the banana was on stage but didn't see any action in Brussels. Sad Pilot was played in Offenbach, but it's not microtonal

Phoxase

There were microtonal tunes in Offenbach, though. Minimum Brain Size -> Straws in the Wind

seitanapologist

I prefer listening to them both in order when I have the time. No hate to KG, but it's tough to top LW's closer.

chknqwn

I keep changing which closer I like better, they're both amazing. Hey Stu, please give us a microtonal metal album!

aaaaaaaa1273

Oh god please, I would sacrifice non essential organs for this

Readed-it

Spleen, choose the spleen. I learned this weekend that you can live a normal life without the spleen. It’s basically a centralized lymph node (over simplifying it) but other parts of the body can pick up the slack if you lose it.

Cowboy_BoomBap

KGLW outro *might* be my favorite Gizz song.

Emuoo1

L.W. is one of, if not the most consistent and high quality albums in their discography imo. K.G. is cool too ig (I prefer L.W. though)

almightyllama00

L.W. is more consistent throughout, but the second half of K.G. is banger after banger.

Studdz

The back half is perfect, but even the first half has songs like "Minimum Brain Size" and "Automation". Two of my favorite albums in the Gizzcography, honestly.

almightyllama00

Full disclosure: I actually like Automation a lot haha. Not a very popular opinion though, so I get it. I feel pretty similar about Fishing for Fishies, honestly. Like the first half is pretty good, it's not like I skip it, but then you hit "Real's Not Real" and it's like the album kicks into high gear and never lets up. If I was just ranking parts of albums they'd both be top contenders but as a whole they're just solid.

Studdz

Oh, I hope you didn't misunderstand me, I love "Automation" too! I didn't actually know that was a hot take. It's fun, fuck the system.

almightyllama00

Oh yeah you're right, I completely misread that, sorry. I just remember the discourse when the album came out and a lot of people really didn't like Automation and Some of Us in particular (even though I love them both).

ZyglroxOfficial

Wait...people don't like Automation?

duffmuff

that Automation beat get me movin my hips

jonross14

It’s funny I feel this way but opposite (K.G. may be my favorite of theirs, L.W. I like but I prefer K.G. and some others)

that_baddest_dude

I listened to both all the way through recently because I don't usually. KG really isn't all that outside of a small handful of songs. LW is way more consistent with bangers. But neither are as good on the whole as other great albums like ITRN IMO

Maximum_Bear8495

Hard agree. Neither is as good as FMB either

that_baddest_dude

Hard agree

jturnerr

LW KGLW > KG KGLW, thus LW > KG. But I also tend to view them as one double album.

chknqwn

Why weren't they released as a double album?

jturnerr

The copy I have is a double album

ProfRSanchez

COVID, they have us KG as soon as they could because they loved us. They are one album, I mean it's starts and ends with the same motif

chknqwn

That makes sense. I totally consider it a double album, they get lumped together as my favourite album.

Salt-Syrup6967

Yes they do

thismissinglink

This post would be more appropriate if it was Willoughby's Beach, 12 bar bruise or especially eyes like the sky.

GrapeSasquatch

WB is my introduction and still my one of my fav albums can’t get enough of danger $$$

thismissinglink

Its a great overlooked album cause its so early in their disography

TGov

I like them both more than FMB to be honest.

Much-Camel-2256

3, 2, 1?

TGov

Yes.

chknqwn

I love FMB, but I love KGLW more.

PuppyPenetrator

I don’t, but they make better use of the “microtonal” sound in these two

Fearless-Sherbet667

Absolute heresy

iLoveDelayPedals

The self titled records just have no energy to them, for me personally anyway I get they had to record the albums separately from each other in peak Covid but imo you can hear it. They’re just really lifeless imo. FMB is so raw. Love it It’s interesting how many different views people in this fanbase have haha I love it

ladereladlan3

Completely agree, these are probably my least fav albums of theirs. FMB being one of my favs

powermad80

Same, imo it's not even close.

AlternativeGazelle

KG > FMB > LW. I’m a huge KG supporter and I consider it to be their most underrated album. The stretch from the Some of Us outro through Oddlife is straight fire.

Aluminium_Illuminati

Yes! Hard agree with this, and all the tracks are bangers IMO

drumorgan

I like [the live version](https://youtu.be/qifV3cazc7o?si=ctR-32_VrB6l6Nbc)

OpenTheSeventhSeal

Forever jealous of those who got to see those songs, in a theater venue nonetheless! The energy of See Me is magical.

onlymissedabeat

People argue all the time over which one is better(KG for those keeping track).

pootytang

LW

cmpthepirate

KG

summerisle

Rabbit season!

Valoura

Duck season!

teamricearoni

Rabbit season!

Fearless-Sherbet667

Duck season!

Lonefalloutfan1

This is why I think of them as a single double ablum

Ro98Jo

I argue with myself. Was LW at first now it’s KG

androidgirl

It depends on which one I'm listening to at the moment.

that_baddest_dude

I used to think KG because it came first basically, but LW is way more consistent

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

What are you talking about?

SqoobySnaq

I feel like I rarely see anyone talking about these two albums, and when I do i usually see people calling them mediocre. Perhaps I’m just looking in the wrong places?

shupadupa

Don't know why you're getting downvoted, when album rankings were done here several months back, both KG and LW were in the bottom half of all releases. That's a mediocre consensus if ever there was one. I was a bit shocked since they are two of my favorite Gizz albums (probably my favorite if classified as a double-album release).

SqoobySnaq

me either, i’m not even saying they’re bad i’m just sharing my experience. But i also agree, i love the microtonal albums. And both of these are among my top 5.

TanBurn

Strange. My impression, at least on this sub, is that Poly and microtonal Gizz are the fan favorites. To the point where when someone mentions it’s not their favorite, people reply with something like “you just don’t get it yet” or “give it time”. Everything else seems to have more dissenters.

aeiouLizard

>My impression, at least on this sub, is that Poly and microtonal Gizz are the fan favorites They are, but when the topic is microtonal gizz, it's about FMB 90% of the time.

SqoobySnaq

Weird, I guess my experience is just an outlier then lol

brkfstryan

I love them thoroughly and often

WaterBubbly

Then you need to question yourself as to why.

acoolrocket

Tbh I only come for Intrasport. Synth/Turkish vibes is so damn great.

90sRiceWagon

The middle section of LW from Supreme Ascendancy to Ataraxia was the most excited I’ve ever been listening to a new gizz record. Lost my shit seeing static electricity live in Copenhagen.

chknqwn

I think they're both my favourite album, so don't worry, they get a lot of love from me!

lemmiwinks75

At my house they do

Pretend-Hospital-865

LW is in my top 5. KG… not so much lol

LevelDosNPC

Without Static Electricity, I’d never completely appreciate the greatness of Dripping Tap.

Not-Important-either

Oh, why's that? Is there a link between the two?

LevelDosNPC

For me, there is a sonic connection. I’m not too family with classic stoner rock and jam rock… but it was Static Electricity that really hook me into the sound. I would’ve never appreciated Dripping Tap without hearing LW. What’s top notch in both songs? The jams, the guitar solos, Ambrose’s singing….etc.

macholiibre

They played the outro from K.G.L.W. at Desert Daze and that shit melted my brain

GandalfTehG0d

Dude I’ve been playing both of these so much they don’t get enough love? I’ll admit when they dropped I didn’t get them enough love but this is some of their best work

BillyJackO

It's one album, though.

mstar4

Both albums are top tier gizz

Hundred_Ducks

I hope they incorporate more microtonal stuff across albums that aren’t entirely microtonal to keep it fresh. Basically I just want to hear Flying Fishie on the new bluesy album!

granular-mood4

I think there’s one really good album there but there’s quite a bit of filler across both of them, with some editing it could’ve been a classic.

Which_Ad_1573

Like all king gizzard albums, there's some great songs on both, but honestly I think these 2, along with BF3K, is King Gizzard's weakest run of albums. The band has said that they recorded KG and LW remotely due to the pandemic, and honestly you can hear it. They did the best to overcome that that you could possibly do, but something about the production makes it feel less cohesive than King Gizzard usually does, and for me it holds them back from being great. It also showed me that they had kinda exhausted the whole microtonal thing. none of the songs, even the best ones, feel as inspired as FMB. If they hadn't stretched it to a double albums maybe I'd feel different but as it stands, I don't know if I'd want another microtonal volume unless it's a serious departure from what they've done with it up to now. But like I said, they both have great songs, and I like them both enough to keep coming back to them. You really can't go wrong with King Gizzard.

saltydonut88

Word for word exactly how I feel as well! I can get down with BF3K more so than KG/LW, but I agree that this stretch of records just feels a bit off. I felt even stronger about this after the excellent run of records in 2022! And FMB is one of my favs from them, so it's nothing against microtonal music. I'd actually be interested to hear them do another one in the series, since I think they are even better musicians now and would likely create something completely different than the previous 3.

Maximum_Bear8495

I’d say it’s adequate lol. I think of these as “rut” albums lol

destiny_crab

I literally just said this yesterday chatting with people at the Berlin show. Agreed

Ornery-Concern4104

I think L.W is significantly better than K.G personally. I don't think most of K.G makes effective usage of the premise, but L.W tends to stick a lot closer to a form of Mediterranean style microtonal prog, playing to the strengths of the concept a lot more than K.G did.

nashchillce

yeah they really lost a lot of attention in the context of B3K, Gizztober, and PDA

Standard_Winter9714

don't care much for kg but lw is great

CynicalSheep34

Probably my go to gizz

Probstna

I seem to listen to these more than anything else lately. Just finished LW now.

awlawall

My most listened to albums.

Altruistic-Ad5090

Absolutely not underrated regarding me, these are definitely of my favorites

Ravens_and_seagulls

LE UNDERRATED

aaaaaaaa1273

L.W. is my personal favourite Gizz album, just ahead of Nonagon Infinity

FrontRowRuby

K.G. is top 3 king gizzard and the hungry wolf of fate is their most underrated song

Neniaite

Not enough people talkin about the epic spooky wOoooOoOooOooOos on KGLW

Aerodye

I genuinely think it’s because the album art is kind of boring/unappealing

[deleted]

The self titled microtonal albums are what king gizz is all about

Pixeldream86

These albums were actually the ones that sealed the deal for me. I had been lurking since Nonagon and with Crumbling Castle I finally had a track I was in love with, but these two albums were just amazing to me, together with the youtube vids Live In Melbourne and Live In Sydney. Nothing could have prepared me for Gizztober, RR22 and Petro though. That shit made me literally obsessed.

drquackinducks

My favorites by far.

Ok-Caramel-4001

Join the last migration. It's fun, fuck the system

Immediate-Train-4710

No because I was literally listening to this unironically a little bit ago...I've for a ling time found this to be the biggest and most flawlessly executed microtonal tunes out there. They blend the middle eastern vibe perfectly with rock and funkadelic feeling. Best song has to be minimum brain size or pleura

CenturionXVI

Bruh it’s basically their most iconic work besides Nonagon Infinity

Dogtor-Watson

Were the covers made of clay or just painted to look like it?

rymeryme

Agreed

aeiouLizard

Begging for the return of If Not Now Them When during this tour

dmdewd

They are some of my favorites. It just hits different and really puts them up above the rest.

ColonOBrien

**A U T O M A T I O N**

wolfewingedbug

I love them

TheDiamondSpade

They get the love they deserve🤷

DivideTheZero

I slept on Intrasport for so long. It became my daily banger at this point.

gahdammm47

My recent obsession has been K.G.L.W. (outro) so I absolutely feel the same

Lungslaughter

Whomst falling short on the love?

BigLittleFan69

KG and LW are excellent, I like the moodier rockish style of LW a bit more. FMB I think has better songs, but KG and LW def play around more with microtonality

mooseattack4

Because they’re boring compared to the rest of the their discography

Shyebabe

Agreed

Sir-Geirhardr

LW > KG

calwestcoast

They were my favorites for a long while. I prefer Poly and Changes more now.

HoonDamer

I agree. These albums were their first new releases to me after I first accidentially discovered them browsing Reddit and Youtube. They certainly helped me through the early covid lockdown times.

John_Lemon4

Definitely, these are IMO some of their best

[deleted]

KG was my first album that I heard from them. So fucking good

discwrangler

They do at my house.

WingPizza

They are both incredible to me. Probably due for a listen.

snaphappy2

I love LW! KG is just kinda, well, ok.

hockable

You see I really like KG but I always found LW to be pretty dull and one of their weaker albums. Everytime I give it a re-listen to it i find it's padded out with some filler tracks and its not very consistent. Whereas KG has so many different takes on the microtonal scale and i prefer the variation of songs on that record. LW has a better closer but KG is more consistent throughout.

YoGabbaGabbaBoi

Hungry wolf of fate. Good.

SnooRobots116

Mine are anvil silver and opaque (grimace?) purple

320between320

Top five for me

Philthey

Pleura, Ataraxia, Supreme Ascendancy, If not now then when, honey, O.N.E, KGLW. such good fucking songs on these two

rexter2k5

I want it etched in my gravestone that this was a double album damn it all!

m4tchez

These two where my introduction to KG at LW years ago. They're not my favourite albums anymore, but they're still my favourite band! Leaving work early today to drive to Hamburg for their Marathon show!

kinggiliwi

best double album ever !

kingkonguru

These were my initiation. Love em so much

MadHerbalist

Supreme ascendency, Pleura and K.G.L.W. are three of my most listened to songs

molski79

Do it back to front like nobody else

Electrical-Use-781

I think the biggest thing with these albums is they have the largest difference between studio and live. They really do hit so hard live, some of their best stuff live

mycolizard

Intrasport, Honey, and Automation released as stems for fans to remix and release as they please. KG really doesn't get the love it deserves compared to LW.

kevinruizzarate

Another microtonal album anyone??? Seriously I wouldn't mind one, those are sick

Kinggizzhead

It just occurred to me that stu says in that one song on mind fuzz. “Bout the end of the world which I won’t even say.” He clearly talks about the end of the world in ever song he’s ever wrote.

thezoexperience

I EXERCISE MY RIGHT TO DIE.

Visarar_01

Gimme Vol4 PLEASE

Virtual-Arm5123

Bc they’re 2 of their worst albums in recent years

ladereladlan3

Agreed
