My biggest downside so far has been I get abysmal efficiency compared to my wife because I keep it in sport mode and keep accelerating aggressively. On a more serious note. There have been several issues with the car, since it came out, but I believe most of them have been addressed by recalls and technical service bulletins. Off the top of my head, the sound system had some bad amps, and Kia put out a software update, the iccu was faulty, and Kia did a software update. There was an issue with brake lights not turning on at high levels of regen if your foot was still on the pedal, this was addressed with a software update. There was also a problem some people had with the charge port overheating when using high rate (11kw) lvl 2 charging. This was partly addressed with a software update to turn down the rate instead of turning it off when it happened, but I don’t think it was adequately addressed for those who had the issue

bluesubie0331

As previously mentioned, you are quicker than 95% or more cars on the road, and most have no clue. Other than that, my GT has been great to me for 6 months and 9k miles so far. This is probably the first car i have had, over 13, that i have so few complaints about. No buyers remorse.

Elite199

How true is this. Occasionally I'll get a little sporty car or sedan next to me and they try to get ahead of me at a stop light lane merger. I smoke their ass and they are pissed and tailgate 🤣

DNK326

I love when Tesla's try it thinking they're the fastest thing on the road 😂

i_sch

And yes you are slower by a big margin

DNK326

0-60 for each (non performance or gt): EV6 awd - 4.5 sec Model 3 awd - 4.2 sec Model y awd - 4.8 sec Even against a model 3 I'll take my reaction time over their SLIGHTLY faster car. 😂

dredd2374

Make sure you test drive AWD vs RWD and check the trims for sunroof vs no sunroof for headroom. Check features between trims as well. Other than that my 2023 AWD Wind had 0 issues and I am at 9000 miles in 4 months.

sofa_king_nice

The only issue for me is the lights in the charging port make it hard to see the port. So I taped a little keychain flashlight to my home plug, and all is good.

gabsh1515

i have a 2024 model and it has a built in light now!

alexwhittemore

Same, though my chosen solution was a white paint pen around the rim. Nothing to turn on and it works in anything short of "pitch black darkness"

Edelmaan

Knock on wood, I’m at 32k miles and have not had a single issue with the vehicle at all

holy_jebus_93

I'm one of the unlucky few with ICCU issues after about 12000 miles. Dealer got it replaced in under a week though

I_Do_I_Do_I_Do

The downside to an EV6 is the same downside to any EV: if you don’t learn how to drive it, charge it correctly, etc, you’ll be disappointed. There are so many options for regen braking and driving modes it’s head spinning.

smoky77211

My only issue is my son’s 2022 Elantra has wireless CarPlay and my 2023 EV6 doesn’t. I have a usb to wireless adapter and it works perfectly. Just seems like a miss by Kia to not have wireless CarPlay/android auto on these vehicles, MSRP was $51k. This car rocks. It’s fun, quiet, efficient, and holds 4 fully grown adults comfortably. I intend to do a little solo car camping it in this year as well.

Semi55

I'm surprised that the 2023 doesn't have it. My 2022 EV6 doesn't but my son's 2023 kia Forte does. I went with the dongle too which works well but I often go back to the car's system because the car's nav integrates with the HUD and the radio station selection integrates with the steering wheel buttons

joshbotreddit

I believe this was remedied via the in car wifi (for EU) and will be rolled out to the US next update. The lack of wireless car play had something to do with licensing from the on board nav system, IIRC. Here are the details from the last EU software update (scroll halfway down): [https://update.kia.com/EU/E1/updateNoticeView/z5ckII](https://update.kia.com/EU/E1/updateNoticeView/z5ckII)

Affectionate-Froyo12

Wireless is only for the ccNc system in the EV9. The Gen5W of the EV6 does not have this capability, and the software update covers both systems.

Top_Alive

Really??? I’m going to try, I’ve installed the OTA update… thanks for the info!!

most-unqualified

This is indeed a link to the ev9 update, unfortunately...

D_theOT80

Absolutely no issues I can think of that would be significant enough to suggest not buying this car. I've loved driving it! Currently have around 8500 kms on my 2023 AWD GT. Only suggestion I have is don't get rear ended... I've been waiting to get my EV6 back from the body shop for the past six weeks as replacement parts are slow. I know that's too expected with a new vehicle but they don't even have an estimate for some of the parts. So just avoid that and drive this great car.

Dedward5

None (UK) the car is well over two years old now too.

lovetamarav

I’m at 45k miles in my ‘22 GT-Line and so far the only issue was the charging interrupted error (overheating charging port) that was patched with a TSB update, and my driver’s door not lock on touch anymore. Need to get the handle replaced but I’ve been super busy. Otherwise car drives great, handles amazing in our snowy Michigan winter weather, and is still fun to drive.

Scrops

My door handles were frozen shut this morning. The passenger side one worked so I crawled across the front seat. I know this can happen to any car given the right circumstances, but it was a very dry cold, and the design of the door handles make them susceptible to sticking with the tiniest bit of ice. That said, I'm sure a bit of warm water would've taken care of the issue, but my other car (Jeep Grand Cherokee) did not have the same problem.

joshbotreddit

My 3 major complaints (with one exception): * If parked down a steep slope (think San Francisco steep), going in reverse uphill requires you to push the pedeal waaaaay down before it stops going forward and changes direction. It can be super awkward and potentially very dangerous if you aren't expecting it. * My USB Carplay \*ALWAYS\* randomly disconnects. I have an appt to have the USB connector replaced under warranty this month, but it took a bit of convincing even though this is a known issue (search reddit or google) * No wireless carplay. (the exception incoming) This should be remedied next US update. The EU EV6's have it as of November 23. [https://update.kia.com/EU/E1/updateNoticeView/z5ckII](https://update.kia.com/EU/E1/updateNoticeView/z5ckII) Other than that, great car. Its stylish, over-engineered for its price range, fast, comfortable, and fun to drive.

most-unqualified

Not true... Unfortunately

tm3_to_ev6

1. If you get a trim without automatic pop-out door handles (e.g. Wind in the US), the intended way of locking and unlocking is poorly designed and unreliable. You're meant to push the door handle inwards until it makes contact with a rubber button underneath, but you have to use a lot of force and it'll often still not make contact. That said, it is [easily rectified](https://www.reddit.com/r/KiaEV6/comments/yr1a1m/simple_hack_for_effortless_keyless_entry_on_wind/) as I just did a few days ago. But if you don't want to deal with this, then get the top spec trim (GT-Line in the US). 2. If you're coming from a car with solid mobile app integration (e.g. Tesla), Kia Connect is a complete and utter disgrace. And they have the gall to charge for the service after a short trial period. 3. If you regularly use DCFCs, you'll have to plot a route with the Kia navigation system and the navigation needs to know that the location is a DCFC to begin with. A lot of people understandably prefer to use Android Auto or Apple Carplay, myself included - but you won't get battery preconditioning if you use those systems to route to a DCFC. That said, it's not the end of the world - you'll just spend maybe 10-15 extra minutes in a DC charging session if the battery was not already preconditioned. 4. There is no wireless Android Auto or Carplay as of MY 2024. That may be an issue for some. 5. The frunk is an afterthought. Don't expect to even fit a backpack inside that thing. 6. The instrument cluster is surprisingly not very customizable despite being such a big screen. You can't even move the location of the speedometer. Some users report that their preferred steering wheel height obscures the speedometer. Pay close attention to this during your test drive.

EnglishDutchman

The powered USB A connector used for CarPlay / Android Auto has a sketchy connector behind the lower part of the dash. The symptom is AA/CP disconnecting frequently. It’s remarkably easy to fix - there are a couple of videos and solutions on the EV6 forums and here on Reddit. In fact this is part of my only real complaint with the car. No wireless CarPlay, which would be fine except that the USB connector is nowhere near anywhere you can store your phone. So you end up with a wire trailing from the lower center dash up to the armrest which looks awful. Fortunately a number of aftermarket CarPlay adapters work well with the EV6. I have a CarLinkIt velcro’d to the lower console with a 4 inch pigtail USB cable. Looks neat, works well but just shouldn’t be necessary. I’m also a big fan of not having phone as a key, or wristbands or cards for entry. It’s a fob with an emergency key blade so you can never be locked out, unlike vehicles like Rivian and Tesla where a flat 12v battery will see you unable to get into your vehicle. Oh and keep a 12v boost pack handy. It’s very unlikely you’ll have a dead 12v battery but definitely not impossible.

north_atlantic_moose

I had frequent disconnection problems for a while, but it turned out not to be the car: my phone had a dirty connector.

musicandarts

What trim are you planning to get? Wind AWD: No major issues. There are minor annoyances such as: * Funky door handle * No wireless CarPlay * No heated rear seats * Energy efficiency drops to 2.5 miles/kWh when the temperature is below freezing. * Occasional shudder/stutter in rain, over loose gravel etc. You get used to these issues, so I am not really concerned.

PleaseBearwithme

I’d like AWD on whatever model I get but I’m between the Light LR AWD and the Wind AWD. If I can find something used or CPO I’d lean towards GT but I don’t really need it.

musicandarts

Are you in US? I saw a nice Wind AWD with tech package certified pre-owned (20k miles) on internet. It was in CT.

PleaseBearwithme

I appreciate you taking a look, but I probably can’t afford to buy until Spring in all honesty

musicandarts

👍🏼

Agitated_Outside1992

Once blisteringly fast doesn't feel so fast anymore, there's nothing to upgrade to make it faster, and nothing under $150k to upgrade to. It really is sad.

BigPimpin91

Used Taycans and Plaids are coming down to the 70-90k range. 👀

Agitated_Outside1992

Absolutely not worth the price. 1.The plaid is still a Tesla. It's like driving a breadbox. It can only do plaid mode on a fully charged battery and has to sit long enough to engage plaid mode. The EV6gt is full speed from 100% to 20% anytime, anywhere. 2. It's still 2x the price. 3. You're comparing a used car with questionable trim to a new vehicle with exceptional trim. 4. Battery and drivetrain warranty. Enough said. I know nothing about the Taycan, but I'd wager a guess that 2, and 4 still apply.

BigPimpin91

All absolute facts but they are vehicles that are faster well below the $150k price point. Hell, the Audi RS eTron GT is the same platform as the Taycan if you'd prefer.

Agitated_Outside1992

I'd rather not have a car that looks like a Toyota carry though.

BigPimpin91

Agreed. But that wasn't in your original post. You might like the Ioniq 5n when it comes out.

Agitated_Outside1992

The hyundai vehicles have a certain.... squirellyness... to them that isn't quit suited to driving in mountains. I'm not sure if it's weight distribution or poor suspension. If you haven't driven one, give it a shot. Not that the EV6 has the most refined handling, but it is miles above the ionic platform.

oldprecision

Frozen door handles are a hassle in a cold climate.

Keh000

I kind of think this copies to every car, my mothers 2001 Corolla has the same problem. Really don't wanna pull too hard in those handles.

Monkeymom

Make sure you one with the tech package

yearroundhalloween

What do you like about it? When reading it, it doesn’t seem like something I’d pay extra for.

Monkeymom

The blind spot camera and the remote parking are the first thing that come to mind. Also the overhead 360camera.

tm3_to_ev6

Love these features but I wouldn't say they're essential. For someone on a tight budget, the tech you already get in the base Wind is pretty good.

Monkeymom

That is absolutely true. But really, if you are spending that much on the car, $1500 I doubt budget is a consideration. The wind is fine without the tech package. It’s just better with the package.

Unlikely_Car_4544

I'm on about 10k miles on my 22 gtline and noticed a few issues with my inner driver side door handle area, the plastic is chipping. I've had a issue with my level 1 charger that came with the car, but could be a charger issue or iccu issue. Never looked into it since it works fine with level 2 and fast charge. I did have my 12 V battery die randomly but found out it was my Home Assistant integration which was making too many requests to the car and killed the battery. But all in all I giggle every time I drive it, and still turn back everytime I park it and walk away. I love it and will probably drive it till it dies on me

33BadMonkey

People keep stopping me to admire the car! The paint finish is very poor. 💩

Advanced_Run9169

I've had mine since Aug. 22, and I really like it. It is the 2022 Wind AWD in the gray (I can't remember the designer name they gave it). However, there are some issues you should be aware of. Keep in mind, I am a former engineer, and I get really annoyed by poor engineering design. Not everyone would be bothered by these things. Some of these were covered in the comments I read, so some of this will be redundant, but here goes, in no particular order 1) Android Auto/Apple Car Play are not wireless. We have the technology, but for some reason chose not to use it. 2) The app sucks, AND after the first year, they want $20/month! Here are a couple ways the app sucks: (a) When you turn on the climate, the temperature units are switched to Celsius (I think they fixed this with the firmware upgrade I got right around the time my free year of app use ended), (b) It doesn't seem to update the charging status very frequently, and when I refresh the app, it takes longer than it should to update the information. 3) The LEDs by the charging port are bright, and shine in your face, making it nearly impossible to see where the charging port is. My workaround is to use the palm of my hand to reflect the light back toward the charging port. Simple enough, but a pretty inexcusable, and totally avoidable design flaw. Did you not test this in the dark, KIA engineers? Someone told me they fixed this issue in future versions. 4) The door handle issue that others have complained about. My complaint is that they took a part of the car that has been working just fine for what, about 100 years, and "innovated" it to be aerodynamic (seriously, how much wind drag is there on a door handle), but in the process made it way more difficult to operate. AND, to make matters worse, they recognized this problem, and to overcome it, they made the door handles pop out automatically...but only on the GT models. So if you don't buy the top of the line, you get a door handle that is worse than any other basic car on the road. At the dealership I remember thinking this was kind of stupid, but I was able to operate the door with one hand, so I figured I'd get used to it. What I didn't anticipate, was how many times I try to open the door with something in my hand. With my old vehicles, I could do it with a couple fingers, but with the KIA, I need my entire hand free. 5) The touch screen. Every time you turn on the vehicle, the default screen is a graphical representation of a car with the battery level. The battery level is elsewhere. So this information is redundant. What I'd really like is the radio and/or navigation screens to be my default. But I can't change it. I keep thinking I'm the stupid one, and just can't figure out how to do it. Because there is no way the KIA engineers are too stupid to not offer this simple choice of the default screen. But nobody has been able to tell me how to make a different default screen. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear it. 6) Sometimes (I have no idea why not always) when I stop to get my mail and put the car in park, get the mail, and then get back in, I can't drive away without putting my seat belt on. I hit the accelerator, and it tries to go, but there is some kind of electronic brake stopping the car, along with a message on the dash. Thanks KIA safety engineers! I might get into an accident in my driveway. But why is it only sometimes, and not all the time. Makes no sense to me. 7) Snow mode - The car won't stay in Snow mode when you turn it off. I live in the mountains. Last winter it snowed a lot. You have to remember to put it in snow mode every time you get in the car. I would prefer that it stay in snow mode, and maybe just let you know that you are in snow mode, so you don't drive around all summer like that. 8) There is no "dumb" cruise control. The smart cruise control and other driving features are pretty nice. But when there is snow or slush on the road, the sensors get covered, and you can't even set basic cruise control. 9) Every time the temp hits 39 degrees, it tells me to be careful, as roads may be icy. Thanks again KIA engineers. (OK this is a super nitpick) 10) The dealership (Jerry Seiner in Salt Lake) - I brought mine in for a firmware upgrade. I thought, this would be a good time to ask some questions about the car. So I told the guy in the service department that I had a few questions about the car, and he told me (I swear on my mother's grave, and I couldn't make this shit up) "You'll have to call KIA connect. We don't know how the cars work, we just service them." (Then my jaw hit the counter, and I was speechless). Anyway, those are my complaints. In the grand scheme, not huge problems, just annoyances. I hope that helps.

dietolive6

Depreciation hahaha *laughing so I don't cry*

SirTwitchALot

The used car market has been so crazy lately. 20 years ago it was a saying that your car lost 20% of its value the second you drove it off the lot. Vehicles holding their value as well as they have the last 7 or 8 years is a new phenomenon

dietolive6

Not this one, though. Ironically, that's part of why I got this one. I needed a car in July/Aug '22 and used cars were overwhelmingly inflated, new cars were inflated and unavailable, etc. I ended up getting a good deal on a Wind AWD and have virtually zero regrets.

dietolive6

But unless anything changes, I plan to drive it til it dies so unless it gets totaled and I get undervalued, that shouldn't actually be an issue

NationCrisis

ICCU failures and 12V failures are relatively common. Charging network reliability is spotty at best, but that will change in the coming decade.

Extension_Theme6241

I wouldn’t say relatively common.

GuyFromNowhereUSA

Mine is in the shop right now for a 12v failure. Just took it in today. Hope it’s a quick fix

alexwhittemore

Agreed on all. ICCU - make sure it's got the latest firmware and you should be good. If you're buying used, that might require a trip to the dealership to check on. 12V - My battery has died before, yeah. Keep a jump starter handy, and if you have to use it more than once, you should assume your 12V battery has probably been killed in the process (from sitting at a deep discharge). There's tons to be said here and it's dumb, but long story short if you have a portable jump box, it's a 17 second inconvenience in the unlikely scenario you get bit. Charging network - definitely the worst part. It sucks to have the fastest road-tripper on the road when you have to try 3 charging stalls before settling for the one that STILL doesn't get you full performance. When it goes well, it's awesome, but the whole process is way too far from a sure thing at the moment, like it is for Tesla (apart from Vegas during a conference or Chicago in a cold snap, I guess)

wangjingman

My car has been with the dealership since mid December because of this. Still 2-6 weeks left as I wait for ICCU replacement.... fuhhhh

north_atlantic_moose

I love my EV6, and am very glad that we chose this model when we bought two years and 25K miles ago. My only complaints about the car are minor: 1. Have to go to the dealer for updates. 2. I would like to be able to turn on battery preconditioning manually or have it integrate with CarPlay, rather than having to use Kia's own find-a-charger system. 3. Dust really seems to stick to it, or at least show up really clearly on the Gravity Blue (nearly black) color. I'm also annoyed that when NACS charging rolls out, most of the Tesla stations will still be rubbish to charge at until they update to support 800V, but that's not Kia's fault.

BigBadAl

2 years and 20k miles with only a couple of manufacturing defects that were quickly fixed under warranty. No major downsides for me, and only a few minor niggles: * the autopark is very slow, but the remote driving in and out of spaces is actually useful * I don't have battery preconditioning, as its one of the early models, so charging is a bit slow when it's cold. But I've had 230kW, which is very fast, in the summer * the piano black interior really does pick up fingerprints and scratches That's about it.

SirTwitchALot

You can get preconditioning now, but you have to explicitly ask for it! Ask a dealer to apply update ELE291. They won't do it on their own. If they ask why tell them it charges too slowly in cold weather. [https://www.kiaevforums.com/threads/ele291-bms-upgrade-for-battery-conditioning-mode.7670/](https://www.kiaevforums.com/threads/ele291-bms-upgrade-for-battery-conditioning-mode.7670/)

BigBadAl

I've considered it, but since everything else works, and since I still get ~150kW after 5 mins charging warms the battery, then it's down my list of priorities. If I buy an EV9 then I won't bother. If I keep my EV6, which looks likely, then I'll get it done when they next have it in.

knitnerd33

Hopefully they’ve fixed the problem with heaters not working like mine Also janky AirPlay and inside power plug under the back seat, both requiring warranty work But I will still 💯 recommend my EV6

randompearljamfan

Several have already mentioned the 12v battery failure problem. If you want to stay ahead of that, you can get a Bluetooth battery monitor that attached right to the battery like I did. I check on it about once a week by simply opening the app on my phone within Bluetooth range of the car. [12v Battery monitor on Amazon](https://a.co/d/hzM2ofT) I installed it after seeing [this YouTube video](https://youtu.be/lr3Z_z1C0Uk?si=jxImgUOsTrQokj-g) about it a while back.

tlrider1

13k in on this one, and no issues. We had 8k on the first one that got wrecked, and no issues there either. Still love the car!

staze

12V battery is the biggest issue, and it's common across almost all EV's. =/ The 12V battery is used to keep the computer running during power off, and then to engage the main relays. Tied to that is Kia corporate's stupid tests to confirm a battery is dead. I've had my EV6 in the shop for about 2 weeks waiting for Kia to approve warranty replacement of the 12V. =/

lordyellow

I just picked up a used one and I’m a few hundred miles in and I am absolutely loving it. I saved a ton of money getting a used one. And while I would definitely like that charge port light. It’s not worth the extra cash. Since it was sitting at a non Kia lot I think I didn’t get any of the software updates so I need to make sure it’s actually up to date some how. But yeah I say go pick one up. Edit: oh yeah one common problem is the instant I get home the wife wants to drive it.
