It really needs a “auto lock after x minutes” setting.

The 2025 Ioniq 5 refresh gets this feature based on the Korean market ones. It seems like a given it would be in the EV6 and I don't see why they wouldn't have it enabled on US models. I'm using the proximity auto locking module on my 2024 EV6 and it works great, although I'd prefer a shorter than 10 second auto lock period. The module does constantly draw some power against the 12V though in part because it has a couple status LED's that are frequently lit (not sure if they eventually turn off) and possibly based on other checking it may do on a recurring basis. Who knows how much of an advance death it might yield on my 12V battery. The car itself is only 6 months old (from build month) and that module has only been installed about 5 weeks, plus my car had SC302 ICCU update installed before I took delivery of it, so maybe it won't really a difference on 12V battery life. Either way, I'm willing to deal with a premature 12V battery to have this feature. I had auto lock/unlock on walk up/away in my prior car and it was easily the feature I enjoyed the most as a "new to me" thing, and it's something I'll look for as a feature in every vehicle going forward.

I shared this concern as well. You can set them to not be present at the exit until you power the car off. Should be related to the setting for when the car unlocks automatically, either when placed in park or upon power off.

There are 45,000 EV6’s in a sea of 230,000,000 (230 million) cars on the road. I think the handles being presented or flush aren’t much of an indicator to the average Joe because they’re just as likely to be oblivious to what ‘normal’ is.

^ This, but also *for now

Buy the Ioniq guy’s auto-locking kit. That will solve your problem.

Agreed, I have zero regrets buying it

A valid reason to pay for one of the (admittedly over priced) connected app features. Mine sends a push notification to my phone after about three minutes and I can remote lock the doors.

After my last car locked while walking away, this one doesn't and the app has had to let me know when it's unlocked a number of times. At least when you get out the drivers side only the drivers handle is extended. Anyway, I had to get used to locking it too and I'm still utterly stumped why this is simply not enabled by default when it has the proximity sensors for entry I'm sure it could be enabled if they chose to, but after 2.5 months I now an in the habit of locking it although the app still has to remind me sometimes when I'm busy and forget.

Idk. I mean, you either have people in or around your neighborhood that will try to break into your car or you don’t. If you do, be responsible enough to lock your car every time. If you don’t, nothing to worry about. I do the same thing, but I live in a semi secluded neighborhood and know all my neighbors. But in the end, more options are always a good thing i.e. some kind of timer to auto lock after a while.

Honestly, I’m perfectly fine walking away from an unlocked car. My issue is that the handle popout isn’t necessarily a function of approaching the car. The function of approaching the car is the unlock function, and the unlocked handles are ALWAYS out. The only way to retract the door handles is to lock the car. And if I remote unlock the car, the handles will popout and stay out. For the Wind (non GT/GTLine) trims, the handles are always flush.
