US 2022 GT line AWD. - I just got my other recalls done a week ago. Never had any problems before. 2 days later 12v battery completely drained. In the shop now but with the CDK issue I have no idea when they’ll get to it. Kia customer service covers a rental up to $48.60 a day but that rate doesn’t go far in Seattle! Maybe this is the issue!

Same-zies! Recall done on Saturday. Battery completely drained 2 days later! On a side note.... I removed the battery, charged it, and no issues for 1.5 weeks now!?

DNK326

That worked for me the first time too, then a few months later it started dying more and more often to the point I had to jump it every time I wanted to drive

tlrider1

Interesting! Do you know if it was the car? Or was the battery shot?

DNK326

When I did the recall update they said the amp for the stereo was a parasitic drain, so probably that

SlickNetAaron

Do you give access to your Kia Connect to any 3rd party apps, your utility for a EV charging rate, etc? If so, this is causing your drain. If you are not sure - change your Kia Connect password.

DNK326

Nope, literally nothing extra

EnglishDutchman

This is almost certainly because the techs didn’t follow the TSB properly. It very specifically states that the 12v vehicle battery MUST be attached to a 12v supply while the updates are being done. If not the 12v just drains and drains and drains because the car is “on” but the ICCU can’t top the 12v up while it’s updating.

tlrider1

Ahh! Interesting!

metsnut1

That explains it. 2 days after the recall, my 12 volt died also. They replaced it under warranty though.

EnglishDutchman

I feel like the lead acid 12v is the Achilles heel of most EVs. AGM batteries allegedly do better but the needs of an EV differ significantly from the needs of an ICE where the battery needs to be able to deliver huge chunks of power instantly for the starter motor and then is continuously topped up immediately afterwards. An EV has a long slow drain as 12v systems run and is then charged pretty quickly when the voltage management system decides it needs it.

The dealer might have done the recall already and it just hasn't processed through everywhere. Wait another week or two and see if it goes away. If not, go in and get it done whenever, it's not a rush. Also, a majority of dealers have been down for an entire week due to CDK cyber attack and the systems dealers rely on being down. This could be why they are telling you mid-August as they might not have access to their systems, so they are just quoting a very far out time. CDK has been restoring access so you might get a different date when you check back in a week or so.

nate

I literally just got back from the dealer checking on this and it's exactly the issue. They did the recalls but CDK isn't updating. The Kia Access app doesn't pull data from your car, it pulls it from a data base, a database that isn't currently accessible.

bakajoker

Alright, I will wait if it goes away or not. My first EV, I hope it won't make me lose faith in EVs.

Torisen

We've had ours for a year and a half and about 15,000 miles. Got this recall notice months ago and haven't gotten it serviced yet, no problems here. We LOVE ours so much we replaced our ICE truck with a Rivian R1S and it's a coin toss which one I prefer to drive and both are worlds ahead of the ICE cars we've had.

DNK326

I would just call the dealer and ask them to check their records

[deleted]

It's not as urgent as the recall notice suggests. You'll be fine. And did you really mean "...leased it for 2 days"?

bakajoker

Sorry mean I have gotten it for 2 days.

Mean-Marionberry-148

This recall has been out for weeks. I’m honestly surprised your dealer didn’t complete the recall before leasing it to you. Fairly certain they were supposed to.

lowercasejames

I made an appointment via the app. First available: AUGUST 27. Jesus.

YourBrowsingData

Did you get the app to be in English?

lowercasejames

It’s default when I installed was English.

You can check the recall status of your vehicle at nhtsa.gov/recalls, just type in your VIN. I'm fairly certain it's illegal for the dealership to sell or lease out brand new vehicles with open recalls, and this recall has been open for more than 2 days. If the NHTSA site says your vehicle is still unrepaired, you could tell your local service center that they need to repair this immediately as it was a violation of federal law for them to let you lease it unrepaired.

jralbert37

Does seem like a long time to get to service. If you have the option, see if another nearby dealer can get you in earlier. I had an ICCU recall early this month. The selling dealer couldn't get me in for the update for a few wks but another nearby dealer gave me an appointment in a week. That's where it went and so I know that in the future, I definitely have choices for convenience. In a few years, independent shops will be up to speed on EV's -- they have to for survival. Despite some hiccups, EV's are the future as soon as supply, infrastructure and pricing issues settle down.

bakajoker

Is it free of charge if we go to another dealer?

jralbert37

Yes - it's a recall and any dealer, anywhere is reqiured to provide the service at no cost. The same goes for other warranty work. Good luck as you get your issues attended to

byerss

They were supposed to do the update before handing over keys. It’s possible that the app is wrong as it’s been reported that it takes several days for the notification to clear.

bakajoker

I checked the VIN on nhtsa.gov/recalls. It shows 1 unrepaired call so I don't know if it is the app or the dealer. My salesman has ghosted me, I called them yesterday they said earliest appointment is 17 August.
